Παῦλος ἀπόστολος οὐκ ἀπ’ ἀνθρώπων οὐδὲ δι’ ἀνθρώπου ἀλλὰ διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ Θεοῦ Πατρὸς τοῦ ἐγείραντος αὐτὸν ἐκ νεκρῶν Paul, an apostle— sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead— Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead; )
καὶ οἱ σὺν ἐμοὶ πάντες ἀδελφοί Ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις τῆς Γαλατίας and all the brothers with me, To the churches of Galatia: And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:
Χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη ἀπὸ Θεοῦ Πατρὸς ἡμῶν «καὶ Κυρίου» Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, Grace [be] to you and peace from God the Father, and [from] our Lord Jesus Christ,
τοῦ δόντος ἑαυτὸν ὑπὲρ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν ὅπως ἐξέληται ἡμᾶς ἐκ τοῦ αἰῶνος τοῦ ἐνεστῶτος πονηροῦ κατὰ τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ Πατρὸς ἡμῶν who gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
ᾧ ἡ δόξα εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων ἀμήν to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. To whom [be] glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Θαυμάζω ὅτι οὕτως ταχέως μετατίθεσθε ἀπὸ τοῦ καλέσαντος ὑμᾶς ἐν χάριτι Χριστοῦ εἰς ἕτερον εὐαγγέλιον I am amazed how quickly you are deserting the One who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
ὃ οὐκ ἔστιν ἄλλο εἰ μή τινές εἰσιν οἱ ταράσσοντες ὑμᾶς καὶ θέλοντες μεταστρέψαι τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ Χριστοῦ which is not even a gospel. Evidently some people are troubling you and trying to distort the gospel of Christ. Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
Ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐὰν ἡμεῖς ἢ ἄγγελος ἐξ οὐρανοῦ εὐαγγελίζηται* ὑμῖν παρ’ ὃ εὐηγγελισάμεθα ὑμῖν ἀνάθεμα ἔστω But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be under a curse! But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
ὡς προειρήκαμεν καὶ ἄρτι πάλιν λέγω εἴ τις ὑμᾶς εὐαγγελίζεται παρ’ ὃ παρελάβετε ἀνάθεμα ἔστω As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be under a curse! As we said before, so say I now again, If any [man] preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Ἄρτι γὰρ ἀνθρώπους πείθω ἢ τὸν Θεόν ἢ ζητῶ ἀνθρώποις ἀρέσκειν εἰ ἔτι ἀνθρώποις ἤρεσκον Χριστοῦ δοῦλος οὐκ ἂν ἤμην Am I now seeking the approval of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
γνωρίζω γὰρ ὑμῖν ἀδελφοί τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τὸ εὐαγγελισθὲν ὑπ’ ἐμοῦ ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν κατὰ ἄνθρωπον For I certify to you, brothers, that the gospel I preached was not devised by man. But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
οὐδὲ γὰρ ἐγὼ παρὰ ἀνθρώπου παρέλαβον αὐτό οὔτε ἐδιδάχθην ἀλλὰ δι’ ἀποκαλύψεως Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught [it], but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Ἠκούσατε γὰρ τὴν ἐμὴν ἀναστροφήν ποτε ἐν τῷ Ἰουδαϊσμῷ ὅτι καθ’ ὑπερβολὴν ἐδίωκον τὴν ἐκκλησίαν τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ ἐπόρθουν αὐτήν For you have heard of my former way of life in Judaism, how severely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:
καὶ προέκοπτον ἐν τῷ Ἰουδαϊσμῷ ὑπὲρ πολλοὺς συνηλικιώτας ἐν τῷ γένει μου περισσοτέρως ζηλωτὴς ὑπάρχων τῶν πατρικῶν μου παραδόσεων I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.
Ὅτε δὲ εὐδόκησεν [ὁ θεὸς] ὁ ἀφορίσας με ἐκ κοιλίας μητρός μου καὶ καλέσας διὰ τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by His grace, was pleased But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called [me] by his grace,
ἀποκαλύψαι τὸν Υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐμοὶ ἵνα εὐαγγελίζωμαι αὐτὸν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν εὐθέως οὐ προσανεθέμην σαρκὶ καὶ αἵματι to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not rush to consult with flesh and blood, To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:
οὐδὲ ἀνῆλθον εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα πρὸς τοὺς πρὸ ἐμοῦ ἀποστόλους ἀλλὰ ἀπῆλθον εἰς Ἀραβίαν καὶ πάλιν ὑπέστρεψα εἰς Δαμασκόν nor did I go up to Jerusalem to the apostles who came before me, but I went into Arabia and later returned to Damascus. Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.
Ἔπειτα μετὰ τρία ἔτη ἀνῆλθον εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα ἱστορῆσαι Κηφᾶν καὶ ἐπέμεινα πρὸς αὐτὸν ἡμέρας δεκαπέντε Only after three years did I go up to Jerusalem to confer with Cephas, and I stayed with him fifteen days. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.
ἕτερον δὲ τῶν ἀποστόλων οὐκ εἶδον εἰ μὴ Ἰάκωβον τὸν ἀδελφὸν τοῦ Κυρίου But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the Lord’s brother. But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother.
ἃ δὲ γράφω ὑμῖν ἰδοὺ ἐνώπιον τοῦ Θεοῦ ὅτι οὐ ψεύδομαι I assure you before God that what I am writing to you is no lie. Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.
Ἔπειτα ἦλθον εἰς τὰ κλίματα τῆς Συρίας καὶ τῆς Κιλικίας Later I went to the regions of Syria and Cilicia. Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;
ἤμην δὲ ἀγνοούμενος τῷ προσώπῳ ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις τῆς Ἰουδαίας ταῖς ἐν Χριστῷ I was personally unknown, however, to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:
μόνον δὲ ἀκούοντες ἦσαν ὅτι Ὁ διώκων ἡμᾶς ποτε νῦν εὐαγγελίζεται τὴν πίστιν ἥν ποτε ἐπόρθει They only heard the account: “The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy. But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.
καὶ ἐδόξαζον ἐν ἐμοὶ τὸν Θεόν And they glorified God because of me. And they glorified God in me.
