Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,1Τὸ δὲ πνεῦμα ῥητῶς λέγει ὅτι ἐν ὑστέροις καιροῖς ἀποστήσονταί τινες τῆς πίστεως προσέχοντες πνεύμασιν πλάνοις καὶ διδασκαλίαις δαιμονίων
speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,2ἐν ὑποκρίσει ψευδολόγων κεκαυστηριασμένων τὴν ἰδίαν συνείδησιν
forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.3κωλυόντων γαμεῖν ἀπέχεσθαι βρωμάτων Θεὸς ἔκτισεν εἰς μετάλημψιν μετὰ εὐχαριστίας τοῖς πιστοῖς καὶ ἐπεγνωκόσι τὴν ἀλήθειαν
For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;4ὅτι πᾶν κτίσμα Θεοῦ καλόν καὶ οὐδὲν ἀπόβλητον μετὰ εὐχαριστίας λαμβανόμενον
for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.5ἁγιάζεται γὰρ διὰ λόγου Θεοῦ καὶ ἐντεύξεως
If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.6Ταῦτα ὑποτιθέμενος τοῖς ἀδελφοῖς καλὸς ἔσῃ διάκονος Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ ἐντρεφόμενος τοῖς λόγοις τῆς πίστεως καὶ τῆς καλῆς διδασκαλίας παρηκολούθηκας
But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness.7Τοὺς δὲ βεβήλους καὶ γραώδεις μύθους παραιτοῦ γύμναζε δὲ σεαυτὸν πρὸς εὐσέβειαν
For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.8 γὰρ σωματικὴ γυμνασία πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐστὶν ὠφέλιμος δὲ εὐσέβεια πρὸς πάντα ὠφέλιμός ἐστιν ἐπαγγελίαν ἔχουσα ζωῆς τῆς νῦν καὶ τῆς μελλούσης
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance.9πιστὸς λόγος καὶ πάσης ἀποδοχῆς ἄξιος
For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.10Εἰς τοῦτο γὰρ κοπιῶμεν καὶ ἀγωνιζόμεθα ὅτι ἠλπίκαμεν ἐπὶ Θεῷ ζῶντι ὅς ἐστιν Σωτὴρ πάντων ἀνθρώπων μάλιστα πιστῶν
These things command and teach.11Παράγγελλε ταῦτα καὶ δίδασκε
Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.12Μηδείς σου τῆς νεότητος καταφρονείτω ἀλλὰ τύπος γίνου τῶν πιστῶν ἐν λόγῳ ἐν ἀναστροφῇ ἐν ἀγάπῃ ἐν πίστει ἐν ἁγνείᾳ
Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.13ἕως ἔρχομαι πρόσεχε τῇ ἀναγνώσει τῇ παρακλήσει τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ
Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.14Μὴ ἀμέλει τοῦ ἐν σοὶ χαρίσματος ἐδόθη σοι διὰ προφητείας μετὰ ἐπιθέσεως τῶν χειρῶν τοῦ πρεσβυτερίου
Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.15ταῦτα μελέτα ἐν τούτοις ἴσθι ἵνα σου προκοπὴ φανερὰ πᾶσιν
Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.16ἔπεχε σεαυτῷ καὶ τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ ἐπίμενε αὐτοῖς τοῦτο γὰρ ποιῶν καὶ σεαυτὸν σώσεις καὶ τοὺς ἀκούοντάς σου
