Timothy 4

New King James VersionNew Living Translation
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,1Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.
speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,2These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead.
forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.3They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth.
For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;4Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.
for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.5For we know it is made acceptable by the word of God and prayer. A Good Servant of Christ Jesus
If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.6If you explain these things to the brothers and sisters, Timothy, you will be a worthy servant of Christ Jesus, one who is nourished by the message of faith and the good teaching you have followed.
But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness.7Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly.
For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.8“Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance.9This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it.
For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.10This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.
These things command and teach.11Teach these things and insist that everyone learn them.
Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.12Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.13Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them.
Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.14Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecy spoken over you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you.
Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.15Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress.
Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.16Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.
