Because faithless Israel had committed adultery, I gave her a certificate of divorce and sent her away. Yet I saw that her unfaithful sister Judah had no fear and prostituted herself as well.
Your ways and your deeds have brought this upon you. This is your punishment. How bitter it is, because it pierces to the heart!"
Do you not fear Me? declares the LORD. Do you not tremble before Me, the One who set the sand as the boundary of the sea, an enduring barrier it cannot cross? The waves surge, but they cannot prevail. They roar but cannot cross it.
They have not said in their hearts, 'Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives the rains, both autumn and spring, in season, who keeps for us the appointed weeks of harvest.'
I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and transgressions, and I hid My face from them.
Israel's arrogance testifies against them; both Israel and Ephraim stumble in their iniquity; even Judah stumbles with them.
But they fail to consider in their hearts that I remember all their evil. Now their deeds are all around them; they are before My face.
My people are bent on turning from Me. Though they call to the Most High, He will by no means exalt them.
It is your destruction, O Israel, because you are against Me, your helper.
I will turn your feasts into mourning and all your songs into lamentation. I will cause everyone to wear sackcloth and every head to be shaved. I will make it like a time of mourning for an only son, and its outcome like a bitter day.
All this is for the transgression of Jacob and the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what is the high place of Judah? Is it not Jerusalem?
