1	Καὶ εἰσῆλθεν πάλιν εἰς [τὴν] συναγωγήν καὶ ἦν ἐκεῖ ἄνθρωπος ἐξηραμμένην ἔχων τὴν χεῖρα	Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there with a withered hand.	Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there.
2	καὶ παρετήρουν αὐτὸν εἰ τοῖς σάββασιν θεραπεύσει αὐτόν ἵνα κατηγορήσωσιν αὐτοῦ	And they watched Jesus, to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him.	Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath.
3	Καὶ λέγει τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τῷ τὴν «χεῖρα ἔχοντι» ξηράν Ἔγειρε εἰς τὸ μέσον	And he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come here.”	Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”
4	καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς Ἔξεστιν τοῖς σάββασιν ἀγαθὸν¦ποιῆσαι ἢ κακοποιῆσαι ψυχὴν σῶσαι ἢ ἀποκτεῖναι Οἱ δὲ ἐσιώπων	And he said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent.	Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.
5	Καὶ περιβλεψάμενος αὐτοὺς μετ’ ὀργῆς συλλυπούμενος* ἐπὶ τῇ πωρώσει τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν λέγει τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ Ἔκτεινον τὴν χεῖρα (σου) καὶ ἐξέτεινεν καὶ ἀπεκατεστάθη ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ	And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.	He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.
6	Καὶ ἐξελθόντες οἱ Φαρισαῖοι εὐθὺς μετὰ τῶν Ἡρῳδιανῶν συμβούλιον ἐδίδουν κατ’ αὐτοῦ ὅπως αὐτὸν ἀπολέσωσιν	The Pharisees went out and immediately held counsel with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him.	Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.
7	Καὶ ὁ Ἰησοῦς μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ ἀνεχώρησεν πρὸς τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ πολὺ πλῆθος ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας ἠκολούθησεν καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰουδαίας	Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea	Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed.
8	καὶ ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰδουμαίας καὶ πέραν τοῦ Ἰορδάνου καὶ περὶ Τύρον καὶ Σιδῶνα πλῆθος πολύ ἀκούοντες ὅσα ἐποίει* ἦλθον πρὸς αὐτόν	and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him.	When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon.
9	Καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ ἵνα πλοιάριον προσκαρτερῇ αὐτῷ διὰ τὸν ὄχλον ἵνα μὴ θλίβωσιν αὐτόν	And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him,	Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him.
10	πολλοὺς γὰρ ἐθεράπευσεν ὥστε ἐπιπίπτειν αὐτῷ ἵνα αὐτοῦ ἅψωνται ὅσοι εἶχον μάστιγας	for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him.	For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him.
11	καὶ τὰ πνεύματα τὰ ἀκάθαρτα ὅταν αὐτὸν ἐθεώρουν προσέπιπτον αὐτῷ καὶ ἔκραζον λέγοντα ὅτι Σὺ εἶ ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ	And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”	Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”
12	καὶ πολλὰ ἐπετίμα αὐτοῖς ἵνα μὴ αὐτὸν φανερὸν ποιήσωσιν	And he strictly ordered them not to make him known.	But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.
13	Καὶ ἀναβαίνει εἰς τὸ ὄρος καὶ προσκαλεῖται οὓς ἤθελεν αὐτός καὶ ἀπῆλθον πρὸς αὐτόν	And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him.	Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him.
14	καὶ ἐποίησεν δώδεκα [οὓς καὶ ἀποστόλους ὠνόμασεν] ἵνα ὦσιν μετ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἵνα ἀποστέλλῃ αὐτοὺς κηρύσσειν	And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach	He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach
15	καὶ ἔχειν ἐξουσίαν ἐκβάλλειν τὰ δαιμόνια	and have authority to cast out demons.	and to have authority to drive out demons.
16	Καὶ ἐποίησεν τοὺς δώδεκα καὶ ἐπέθηκεν ὄνομα τῷ Σίμωνι Πέτρον	He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter);	These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter),
17	καὶ Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ζεβεδαίου καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν τοῦ Ἰακώβου καὶ ἐπέθηκεν αὐτοῖς ὀνόματα* Βοανηργές ὅ ἐστιν Υἱοὶ Βροντῆς	James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder);	James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”),
18	καὶ Ἀνδρέαν καὶ Φίλιππον καὶ Βαρθολομαῖον καὶ Μαθθαῖον καὶ Θωμᾶν καὶ Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ἁλφαίου καὶ Θαδδαῖον καὶ Σίμωνα τὸν Καναναῖον	Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot,	Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot
19	καὶ Ἰούδαν Ἰσκαριώθ ὃς καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτόν	and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.	and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
