Ministers of a New Covenant
1Ἀρχόμεθα (Are we beginning) πάλιν (again) ἑαυτοὺς (ourselves) συνιστάνειν (to commend)? ἢ (Or) μὴ (not) χρῄζομεν (we need), ὥς (like) τινες (some), συστατικῶν (commendatory) ἐπιστολῶν (letters) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) ἢ (or) ἐξ (from) ὑμῶν (you)?
2ἡ (The) ἐπιστολὴ (letter) ἡμῶν (of us) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐστε (are), ἐνγεγραμμένη (having been inscribed) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ἡμῶν (of us), γινωσκομένη (being known) καὶ (and) ἀναγινωσκομένη (being read) ὑπὸ (by) πάντων (all) ἀνθρώπων (men),
3φανερούμενοι (being revealed) ὅτι (that) ἐστὲ (you are) ἐπιστολὴ (a letter) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), διακονηθεῖσα (having been ministered to) ὑφ’ (by) ἡμῶν (us), ἐνγεγραμμένη (having been inscribed) οὐ (not) μέλανι (in ink) ἀλλὰ (but) Πνεύματι (with the Spirit) Θεοῦ (of God) ζῶντος (the living), οὐκ (not) ἐν (on) πλαξὶν (tablets) λιθίναις (of stone) ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (on) πλαξὶν (tablets) καρδίαις (of hearts) σαρκίναις (human).
4Πεποίθησιν (Confidence) δὲ (now) τοιαύτην (such) ἔχομεν (we have) διὰ (through) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (Christ) πρὸς (toward) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God).
5οὐχ (Not) ὅτι (that) ἀφ’ (from) ἑαυτῶν (ourselves) ἱκανοί (sufficient) ἐσμεν (we are) λογίσασθαί (to reckon) τι (anything) ὡς (as) ἐξ (of) ἑαυτῶν (ourselves), ἀλλ’ (but) ἡ (the) ἱκανότης (sufficiency) ἡμῶν (of us) ἐκ (is of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God),
6ὃς (who) καὶ (also) ἱκάνωσεν (has made competent) ἡμᾶς (us as) διακόνους (ministers) καινῆς (of a new) διαθήκης (covenant), οὐ (not) γράμματος (of the letter) ἀλλὰ (but) πνεύματος (of the Spirit); τὸ (the) γὰρ (for) γράμμα (letter) ἀποκτέννει* (kills), τὸ (-) δὲ (but) πνεῦμα (the Spirit) ζωοποιεῖ (gives life).

(Exodus 34:29-35)
7Εἰ (If) δὲ (now) ἡ (the) διακονία (ministry) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (of death), ἐν (in) γράμμασιν (letters) ἐντετυπωμένη (having been engraved) λίθοις (on stones), ἐγενήθη (was produced) ἐν (in) δόξῃ (glory), ὥστε (so as for) μὴ (not) δύνασθαι (to be able) ἀτενίσαι (to look intently) τοὺς (the) υἱοὺς (sons) Ἰσραὴλ (of Israel) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πρόσωπον (face) Μωϋσέως (of Moses), διὰ (on account of) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) τοῦ (of the) προσώπου (face) αὐτοῦ (of him), τὴν (which) καταργουμένην (is fading),
8πῶς (how) οὐχὶ (not) μᾶλλον (more), ἡ (the) διακονία (ministry) τοῦ (of the) πνεύματος (Spirit) ἔσται (will be) ἐν (in) δόξῃ (glory)?
9εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) τῇ* (in the) διακονία (ministry) τῆς (-) κατακρίσεως (of condemnation was) δόξα (glory), πολλῷ (much) μᾶλλον (more) περισσεύει (abounds) ἡ (the) διακονία (ministry) τῆς (-) δικαιοσύνης (of righteousness) δόξῃ (in glory)!
10καὶ (Even) γὰρ (for), οὐ (not) δεδόξασται (has been glorified) τὸ (that) δεδοξασμένον (having been made glorious) ἐν (in) τούτῳ (this) τῷ (-) μέρει (respect), εἵνεκεν (on account of) τῆς (the) ὑπερβαλλούσης (surpassing it) δόξης (glory).
11εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) τὸ (that which) καταργούμενον (is fading away) διὰ (was through) δόξης (glory), πολλῷ (much) μᾶλλον (more is) τὸ (that) μένον (remaining) ἐν (in) δόξῃ (glory)!
12Ἔχοντες (Having) οὖν (therefore) τοιαύτην (such) ἐλπίδα (hope), πολλῇ (great) παρρησίᾳ (boldness) χρώμεθα (we use),
13καὶ (and) οὐ (not) καθάπερ (as) Μωϋσῆς (Moses) ἐτίθει (would put) κάλυμμα (a veil) ἐπὶ (over) τὸ (the) πρόσωπον (face) αὐτοῦ (of himself), πρὸς (for) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ἀτενίσαι (to look intently) τοὺς (the) υἱοὺς (sons) Ἰσραὴλ (of Israel) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) τέλος (end) τοῦ (of that) καταργουμένου (fading away).
14Ἀλλὰ (But) ἐπωρώθη (were hardened) τὰ (the) νοήματα (minds) αὐτῶν (of them). ἄχρι (Until) γὰρ (for) τῆς (the) σήμερον (present) ἡμέρας (day), τὸ (the) αὐτὸ (same) κάλυμμα (veil) ἐπὶ (at) τῇ (the) ἀναγνώσει (reading) τῆς (of the) παλαιᾶς (old) διαθήκης (covenant) μένει (remains), μὴ (not) ἀνακαλυπτόμενον (being lifted), ὅτι (which) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) καταργεῖται (is being removed).
15ἀλλ’ (But) ἕως (unto) σήμερον (this day), ἡνίκα (when) ἂν (-) ἀναγινώσκηται (shall be read) Μωϋσῆς (Moses), κάλυμμα (a veil) ἐπὶ (over) τὴν (the) καρδίαν (heart) αὐτῶν (of them) κεῖται (lies).
16ἡνίκα (Whenever) δὲ (however) ἐὰν (if) ἐπιστρέψῃ (one shall have turned) πρὸς (to) Κύριον (the Lord), περιαιρεῖται (is taken away) τὸ (the) κάλυμμα (veil).
17Ὁ (The) δὲ (now) Κύριος (Lord) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμά (Spirit) ἐστιν (is); οὗ (where) δὲ (now) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) Κυρίου (of the Lord is), ἐλευθερία (there is freedom).
18ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (now) πάντες (all), ἀνακεκαλυμμένῳ (having been unveiled) προσώπῳ (in face), τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) Κυρίου (of the Lord) κατοπτριζόμενοι (beholding as in a mirror), τὴν (the) αὐτὴν (same) εἰκόνα (image) μεταμορφούμεθα (are being transformed into), ἀπὸ (from) δόξης (glory) εἰς (to) δόξαν (glory), καθάπερ (even as) ἀπὸ (from) Κυρίου (the Lord), Πνεύματος (the Spirit).
