1	And early in the morning, having formed a counsel, the chief priests, with the elders and scribes and the whole Council, having bound Jesus, led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate.	And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. And they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate.	Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.
2	And Pilate questioned Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And answering, He says to him, “You say.”	And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”	“Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
3	And the chief priests were accusing Him harshly.	And the chief priests accused him of many things.	The chief priests accused him of many things.
4	And Pilate began to question Him again, saying, “Do You not answer? See how many things they are accusing You of!”	And Pilate again asked him, “Have you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against you.”	So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.”
5	But Jesus answered no more, so as to amaze Pilate.	But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.	But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.
6	Now at the feast he would release to them one prisoner whom they requested.	Now at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked.	Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested.
7	And the one called Barabbas was there, having been bound with the rebels who had committed murder in the insurrection.	And among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas.	A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising.
8	And the crowd, having gone up, began to request that which he usually did for them.	And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them.	The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.
9	But Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you⁺ desire that I should release to you⁺ the King of the Jews?”	And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”	“Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate,
10	For he was aware that the chief priests had delivered Him up because of envy.	For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up.	knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him.
11	But the chief priests stirred up the crowd so that he might release to them Barabbas instead.	But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead.	But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas instead.
12	And Pilate, answering, was saying to them again, “Then what do you⁺ desire that I should do with the One whom you⁺ call the King of the Jews?”	And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?”	“What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them.
13	And they cried out again, “Crucify Him!”	And they cried out again, “Crucify him.”	“Crucify him!” they shouted.
14	And Pilate was saying to them, “Why? What evil did He commit?” But they shouted much more, “Crucify Him!”	And Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.”	“Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
15	And Pilate, desiring to do that which was satisfactory to the crowd, released Barabbas to them. And having flogged Him, he delivered up Jesus so that He might be crucified.	So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.	Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.
16	And the soldiers led Him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium), and they call together the whole cohort.	And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion.	The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers.
17	And they put on Him purple, and having twisted together a crown of thorns, they placed it on Him.	And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him.	They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him.

21	And they compel one passing by, Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, coming from the country, that he might carry His cross.	And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.	A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross.
22	And they bring Him to a place, Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull.	And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull).	They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”).
23	And they were offering Him wine having been mixed with gall, but He did not take it.	And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.	Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.
24	And they crucify Him. And they divide His garments, casting a lot for them, who should take what.	And they crucified him and divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take.	And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots to see what each would get.
25	And it was the third hour, and they crucified Him.	And it was the third hour when they crucified him.	It was nine in the morning when they crucified him.

29	And those passing by were railing at Him, shaking their heads and saying, “Aha! The One demolishing the temple and building it in three days,	And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,	Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,
30	save Yourself, having come down from the cross!”	save yourself, and come down from the cross!”	come down from the cross and save yourself!”
31	Likewise also the chief priests, with the scribes, mocking among one another, were saying, “He saved others; Himself He is not able to save!	So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself.	In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself!
32	The Christ, the King of Israel, let Him come down now from the cross, that we might see and believe!” And those being crucified with Him were upbraiding Him.	Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.	Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
33	And the sixth hour having come, darkness came over all the land until the ninth hour.	And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.	At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.
34	And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why did You forsake Me?”	And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”	And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
35	And some of those standing by, having heard, were saying, “Behold, He calls Elijah.”	And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.”	When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”
36	And one, having run and having filled a sponge with vinegar, having put it on a reed, gave Him to drink, saying, “Let Him be; let us see if Elijah comes to take Him down.”	And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.”	Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.
37	But Jesus, having uttered a great cry, breathed His last.	And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last.	With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.
38	And the veil of the temple was torn into two from top to bottom.	And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.	The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
39	And the centurion standing opposite of Him, having seen that in this way He breathed His last, said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”	And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”	And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”
40	And there were also women looking on from afar off, among whom also were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome,	There were also women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.	Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph, and Salome.
41	who had been following Him and had been ministering to Him when He was in Galilee, and many others, those having come up with Him to Jerusalem.	When he was in Galilee, they followed him and ministered to him, and there were also many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.	In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.
42	And evening already having come, since it was the Preparation (that is, the day before the Sabbath),	And when evening had come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath,	It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So as evening approached,
43	having come, Joseph from Arimathea, a prominent Council member who was also himself waiting for the kingdom of God, having boldness, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.	Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.	Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body.
44	And Pilate wondered if already He was dead. And having summoned the centurion, he inquired of him whether He was dead already.	Pilate was surprised to hear that he should have already died. 46	And having bought a linen cloth, having taken Him down, he wrapped Him in the linen cloth and laid Him in a tomb that was cut out of a rock. And he rolled a stone to the door of the tomb.	And Joseph bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.	So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.
47	And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were watching where He was laid.	Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid.	Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where he was laid.
