1But know this: Difficult times will come in the last days.

1Τοῦτο δὲ γίνωσκε ὅτι ἐν ἐσχάταις ἡμέραις ἐνστήσονται καιροὶ χαλεποί

2For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,

2ἔσονται γὰρ οἱ ἄνθρωποι φίλαυτοι φιλάργυροι ἀλαζόνες ὑπερήφανοι βλάσφημοι γονεῦσιν ἀπειθεῖς ἀχάριστοι ἀνόσιοι

3unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good,

3ἄστοργοι ἄσπονδοι διάβολοι ἀκρατεῖς ἀνήμεροι ἀφιλάγαθοι

4traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

4προδόται προπετεῖς τετυφωμένοι φιλήδονοι μᾶλλον ἢ φιλόθεοι

5holding to the form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid these people!

5ἔχοντες μόρφωσιν εὐσεβείας τὴν δὲ δύναμιν αὐτῆς ἠρνημένοι καὶ τούτους ἀποτρέπου

6For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions,

6Ἐκ τούτων γάρ εἰσιν οἱ ἐνδύνοντες εἰς τὰς οἰκίας καὶ αἰχμαλωτίζοντες γυναικάρια σεσωρευμένα ἁμαρτίαις ἀγόμενα ἐπιθυμίαις ποικίλαις

7always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.

7πάντοτε μανθάνοντα καὶ μηδέποτε εἰς ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας ἐλθεῖν δυνάμενα

8Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind, worthless in regard to the faith.

8ὃν τρόπον δὲ Ἰάννης καὶ Ἰαμβρῆς ἀντέστησαν Μωϋσεῖ οὕτως καὶ οὗτοι ἀνθίστανται τῇ ἀληθείᾳ ἄνθρωποι κατεφθαρμένοι τὸν νοῦν ἀδόκιμοι περὶ τὴν πίστιν

9But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs was also.

9ἀλλ’ οὐ προκόψουσιν ἐπὶ πλεῖον ἡ γὰρ ἄνοια αὐτῶν ἔκδηλος ἔσται πᾶσιν ὡς καὶ ἡ ἐκείνων ἐγένετο

10But you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, and endurance,

10Σὺ δὲ παρηκολούθησάς μου τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ τῇ ἀγωγῇ τῇ προθέσει τῇ πίστει τῇ μακροθυμίᾳ τῇ ἀγάπῃ τῇ ὑπομονῇ

11along with the persecutions and sufferings that came to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from them all.

11τοῖς διωγμοῖς τοῖς παθήμασιν οἷά μοι ἐγένετο ἐν Ἀντιοχείᾳ ἐν Ἰκονίῳ ἐν Λύστροις οἵους διωγμοὺς ὑπήνεγκα καὶ ἐκ πάντων με ἐρρύσατο ὁ Κύριος

12In fact, all those who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

12καὶ πάντες δὲ οἱ θέλοντες ζῆν εὐσεβῶς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ διωχθήσονται

13Evil people and impostors will become worse, deceiving and being deceived.

13πονηροὶ δὲ ἄνθρωποι καὶ γόητες προκόψουσιν ἐπὶ τὸ χεῖρον πλανῶντες καὶ πλανώμενοι

14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed. You know those who taught you,

14Σὺ δὲ μένε ἐν οἷς ἔμαθες καὶ ἐπιστώθης εἰδὼς παρὰ τίνων ἔμαθες

15and you know that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

15καὶ ὅτι ἀπὸ βρέφους [τὰ] ἱερὰ γράμματα οἶδας τὰ δυνάμενά σε σοφίσαι εἰς σωτηρίαν διὰ πίστεως τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ

16All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness,

16πᾶσα γραφὴ θεόπνευστος καὶ ὠφέλιμος πρὸς διδασκαλίαν πρὸς ἐλεγμόν πρὸς ἐπανόρθωσιν πρὸς παιδείαν τὴν ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ

17so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

17ἵνα ἄρτιος ᾖ ὁ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἄνθρωπος πρὸς πᾶν ἔργον ἀγαθὸν ἐξηρτισμένος
