But know this: Difficult times will come in the last days.1But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come.
For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,2For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good,3unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good,
traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 4traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
holding to the form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid these people! 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Turn away from such as these!
For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions,6They are the kind who worm their way into households and captivate vulnerable women who are weighed down with sins and led astray by various passions,
always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.7who are always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.
Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind, worthless in regard to the faith. 8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth. They are depraved in mind and disqualified from the faith.
But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs was also. 9But they will not advance much further. For just like Jannes and Jambres, their folly will be plain to everyone.
But you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, and endurance, 10You, however, have observed my teaching, my conduct, my purpose, my faith, my patience, my love, my perseverance,
along with the persecutions and sufferings that came to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from them all. 11my persecutions, and the sufferings that came upon me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.
In fact, all those who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.12Indeed, all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
Evil people and impostors will become worse, deceiving and being deceived. 13while evil men and imposters go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed. You know those who taught you,14But as for you, continue in the things you have learned and firmly believed, since you know from whom you have learned them.
and you know that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 15From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 17so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.
