1	And immediately, in the morning, the chief priests having made a consultation, with the elders, and scribes, and the whole sanhedrim, having bound Jesus, did lead away, and delivered him to Pilate;	And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. And they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate.	Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.
2	and Pilate questioned him, 'Art thou the king of the Jews?' and he answering said to him, 'Thou dost say it.'	And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”	“Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
3	And the chief priests were accusing him of many things, but he answered nothing.	And the chief priests accused him of many things.	The chief priests accused him of many things.
4	And Pilate again questioned him, saying, 'Thou dost not answer anything! lo, how many things they do testify against thee!'	And Pilate again asked him, “Have you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against you.”	So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.”
5	and Jesus did no more answer anything, so that Pilate wondered.	But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.	But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.
6	And at every feast he was releasing to them one prisoner, whomsoever they were asking;	Now at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked.	Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested.
7	and there was one named Barabbas, bound with those making insurrection with him, who had in the insurrection committed murder.	And among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas.	A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising.
8	And the multitude having cried out, began to ask for themselves as he was always doing to them,	And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them.	The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.
9	and Pilate answered them, saying, 'Will ye that I shall release to you the king of the Jews?'	And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”	“Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate,
10	for he knew that because of envy the chief priests had delivered him up;	For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up.	knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him.
11	and the chief priests did move the multitude, that he might rather release Barabbas to them.	But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead.	But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas instead.
12	And Pilate answering, again said to them, 'What, then, will ye that I shall do to him whom ye call king of the Jews?'	And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?”	“What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them.
13	and they again cried out, 'Crucify him.'	And they cried out again, “Crucify him.”	“Crucify him!” they shouted.
14	And Pilate said to them, 'Why -- what evil did he?' and they cried out the more vehemently, 'Crucify him;'	And Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.”	“Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
15	and Pilate, wishing to content the multitude, released to them Barabbas, and delivered up Jesus -- having scourged him -- that he might be crucified.	So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.	Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.
16	And the soldiers led him away into the hall, which is Praetorium, and call together the whole band,	And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion.	The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers.
17	and clothe him with purple, and having plaited a crown of thorns, they put it on him,	And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him.	They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him.
18	and began to salute him, 'Hail, King of the Jews.'	And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”	And they began to call out to him, “Hail, king of the Jews!”
19	And they were smiting him on the head with a reed, and were spitting on him, and having bent the knee, were bowing to him,	And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him.	Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him.
20	and when they had mocked him, they took the purple from off him, and clothed him in his own garments, and they led him forth, that they may crucify him.	And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him.	And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.
21	And they impress a certain one passing by -- Simon, a Cyrenian, coming from the field, the father of Alexander and Rufus -- that he may bear his cross,	And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.	A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross.
22	and they bring him to the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, 'Place of a skull;'	And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull).	They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”).
23	and they were giving him to drink wine mingled with myrrh, and he did not receive.	And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.	Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.
24	And having crucified him, they were dividing his garments, casting a lot upon them, what each may take;	And they crucified him and divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take.	And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots to see what each would get.
25	and it was the third hour, and they crucified him;	And it was the third hour when they crucified him.	It was nine in the morning when they crucified him.
26	and the inscription of his accusation was written above -- 'The King of the Jews.'	And the inscription of the charge against him read, “The King of the Jews.”	The written notice of the charge against him read: the king of the jews.
27	And with him they crucify two robbers, one on the right hand, and one on his left,	And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left.	They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left.
28	and the Writing was fulfilled that is saying, 'And with lawless ones he was numbered.'
29	And those passing by were speaking evil of him, shaking their heads, and saying, 'Ah, the thrower down of the sanctuary, and in three days the builder!	And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,	Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,
30	save thyself, and come down from the cross!'	save yourself, and come down from the cross!”	come down from the cross and save yourself!”
31	And in like manner also the chief priests, mocking with one another, with the scribes, said, 'Others he saved; himself he is not able to save.	So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself.	In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself!
32	The Christ! the king of Israel -- let him come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe;' and those crucified with him were reproaching him.	Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.	Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
33	And the sixth hour having come, darkness came over the whole land till the ninth hour,	And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.	At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.
34	and at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a great voice, saying, 'Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabachthani?' which is, being interpreted, 'My God, my God, why didst Thou forsake me?'	And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”	And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
35	And certain of those standing by, having heard, said, 'Lo, Elijah he doth call;'	And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.”	When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”
36	and one having run, and having filled a spunge with vinegar, having put it also on a reed, was giving him to drink, saying, 'Let alone, let us see if Elijah doth come to take him down.'	And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.”	Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.
37	And Jesus having uttered a loud cry, yielded the spirit,	And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last.	With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.
38	and the veil of the sanctuary was rent in two, from top to bottom,	And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.	The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
39	and the centurion who was standing over-against him, having seen that, having so cried out, he yielded the spirit, said, 'Truly this man was Son of God.'	And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”	And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”
40	And there were also women afar off beholding, among whom was also Mary the Magdalene, and Mary of James the less, and of Joses, and Salome,	There were also women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.	Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph, and Salome.
41	(who also, when he was in Galilee, were following him, and were ministering to him,) and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.	When he was in Galilee, they followed him and ministered to him, and there were also many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.	In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.
42	And now evening having come, seeing it was the preparation, that is, the fore-sabbath,	And when evening had come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath,	It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So as evening approached,
43	Joseph of Arimathea, an honourable counsellor, who also himself was waiting for the reign of God, came, boldly entered in unto Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus.	Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.	Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body.
44	And Pilate wondered if he were already dead, and having called near the centurion, did question him if he were long dead,	Pilate was surprised to hear that he should have already died. And summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead.	Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died.
45	and having known it from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.	And when he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the corpse to Joseph.	When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph.
46	And he, having brought fine linen, and having taken him down, wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre that had been hewn out of a rock, and he rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre,	And Joseph bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.	So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.
47	and Mary the Magdalene, and Mary of Joses, were beholding where he is laid.	Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid.	Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where he was laid.
