1 And early in the morning the chief priests with the elders and scribes and the whole Sanhedrin, immediately held council; and binding Jesus, led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate. And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. And they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate. Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.
2 And Pilate questioned Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And He answered him and said, “You yourself say it.” And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.” “Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
3 And the chief priests began to accuse Him of many things. And the chief priests accused him of many things. The chief priests accused him of many things.
4 Then Pilate was questioning Him again, saying, “Do You not answer? See how many accusations they bring against You!” And Pilate again asked him, “Have you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against you.” So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.”
5 But Jesus made no further answer; so Pilate marveled. But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed. But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.
6 Now at the feast he used to release for them any one prisoner whom they requested. Now at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked. Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested.
7 And the man named Barabbas had been imprisoned with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the insurrection. And among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas. A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising.
8 And the crowd went up and began asking him to do as he had been accustomed to do for them. And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them. The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.
9 And Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” “Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate,
10 For he was aware that the chief priests had delivered Him over because of envy. For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up. knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him.
11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to ask him to release Barabbas for them instead. But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead. But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas instead.
12 And answering again, Pilate was saying to them, “Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?” And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?” “What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them.
13 And they shouted again, “Crucify Him!” And they cried out again, “Crucify him.” “Crucify him!” they shouted.
14 But Pilate was saying to them, “Why? What evil did He do?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify Him!” And Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.” “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
15 And wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus scourged, he delivered Him over to be crucified. So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.
16 So the soldiers took Him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium), and they called together the whole Roman cohort. And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion. The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers.
17 And they dressed Him up in purple, and after twisting a crown of thorns, they put it on Him; And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him.

20 And after they had mocked Him, they took the purple robe off Him and put His own garments on Him. And they led Him out to crucify Him. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him. 21 And they pressed into service a passer-by coming from the countryside, Simon of Cyrene (the father of Alexander and Rufus), to carry His cross. 24 And they crucified Him, and divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them to decide who should take what. You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,
30 save Yourself by coming down from the cross!” save yourself, and come down from the cross!” come down from the cross and save yourself!”
31 In the same way, mocking Him to one another, the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were saying, “He saved others; He cannot save Himself. So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself. In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself!
32 Let this Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him. Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also reviled him. Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
33 And when the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour. And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.
34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?” which is translated, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?” And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
35 And when some of the bystanders heard it, they began saying, “Look, He is calling for Elijah.” And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.” When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”
36 And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, “Let us see whether Elijah will come to take Him down.” And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.” Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.
37 And Jesus, uttering a loud cry, breathed His last. And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.

43 Joseph of Arimathea came, a prominent Council member, who himself was waiting for the kingdom of God; and he gathered up courage and went in before Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body.
44 And Pilate wondered if He had died by this time, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He already died. Pilate was surprised to hear that he should have already died. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. 47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were looking on to see where He had been laid. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where he was laid.
