1	And anon in the dawning, the hie Priestes helde a Councill with the Elders, and the Scribes, and the whole Council, and bound Iesus, and led him away, and deliuered him to Pilate.	And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. And they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate.	Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.
2	Then Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Iewes? And hee answered, and sayde vnto him, Thou sayest it.	And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”	“Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
3	And the hie Priestes accused him of many things.	And the chief priests accused him of many things.	The chief priests accused him of many things.
4	Wherefore Pilate asked him againe, saying, Answerest thou nothing? beholde howe many things they witnesse against thee.	And Pilate again asked him, “Have you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against you.”	So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.”
5	But Iesus answered no more at all, so that Pilate marueiled.	But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.	But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.
6	Nowe at the feast, Pilate did deliuer a prisoner vnto them, whomesoeuer they woulde desire.	Now at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked.	Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested.
7	Then there was one named Barabbas, which was bounde with his fellowes, that had made insurrection, who in the insurrection had committed murther.	And among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas.	A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising.
8	And the people cried aloude, and began to desire that he woulde doe as he had euer done vnto them.	And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them.	The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.
9	Then Pilate answered them, and said, Will ye that I let loose vnto you the King of ye Iewes?	And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?”	“Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate,
10	For he knewe that the hie Priestes had deliuered him of enuie.	For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up.	knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him.
11	But the high Priestes had moued the people to desire that he would rather deliuer Barabbas vnto them.	But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead.	But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas instead.
12	And Pilate answered, and said againe vnto them, What will ye then that I doe with him, whom ye call the King of the Iewes?	And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?”	“What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them.
13	And they cried againe, Crucifie him.	And they cried out again, “Crucify him.”	“Crucify him!” they shouted.
14	Then Pilate said vnto them, But what euill hath he done? And they cryed the more feruently, Crucifie him.	And Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.”	“Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
15	So Pilate willing to content the people, loosed them Barabbas, & deliuered Iesus, when he had scourged him, that he might be crucified.	So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.	Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.
16	Then the souldiers led him away into the hall, which is the common hall, and called together the whole band,	And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion.	The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers.
17	And clad him with purple, and platted a crowne of thornes, and put it about his head,	And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him.	They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him.
18	And began to salute him, saying, Haile, King of the Iewes.	And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”	And they began to call out to him, “Hail, king of the Jews!”
19	And they smote him on the head with a reede, and spat vpon him, and bowed the knees, and did him reuerence.	And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him.	Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him.
20	And whe they had mocked him, they tooke the purple off him, and put his owne clothes on him, and led him out to crucifie him.	And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him.	And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.
21	And they compelled one that passed by, called Simon of Cyrene (which came out of the countrey, and was father of Alexander and Rufus) to beare his crosse.	And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.	A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross.
22	And they brought him to a place named Golgotha, which is by interpretation, the place of dead mens skulles.	And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull).	They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”).
23	And they gaue him to drinke wine mingled with myrrhe: but he receiued it not.	And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.	Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.
24	And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots for them, what euery man should haue.	And they crucified him and divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take.	And they crucified him. 27	They crucified also with him two theeues, the one on ye right hand, & the other on his left.	And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left.	They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left.
28	Thus the Scripture was fulfilled, which sayth, And he was counted among the wicked.
29	And they that went by, railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Hey, thou that destroyest the Temple, & buildest it in three dayes,	And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,	Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,
30	Saue thy selfe, and come downe from the crosse.	save yourself, and come down from the cross!”	come down from the cross and save yourself!”
31	Likewise also euen the hie Priests mocking, said among themselues with the Scribes, He saued other men, himselfe he cannot saue.	So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself.	In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself!
32	Let Christ the King of Israel nowe come downe from the crosse, that we may see, and beleeue. They also that were crucified with him, reuiled him.	Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.	Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
33	Nowe when the sixt houre was come, darkenesse arose ouer all the land vntill the ninth houre.	And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.	At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.
34	And at the ninth houre Iesus cryed with a loude voyce, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lamma-sabachthani? which is by interpretation, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?	And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”	And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).
35	And some of them that stoode by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.	And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.”	When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”
36	And one ranne, and filled a spondge full of vineger, and put it on a reede, and gaue him to drinke, saying, Let him alone: let vs see if Elias will come, and take him downe.	And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.”	Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.
37	And Iesus cryed with a loude voyce, and gaue vp the ghost.	And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last.	With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.
38	And the vaile of the Temple was rent in twaine, from the toppe to the bottome.	And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.	The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
39	Nowe when the Centurion, which stoode ouer against him, sawe that he thus crying gaue vp the ghost, he saide, Truely this man was the Sonne of God.	And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”	And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”
40	There were also women, which beheld afarre off, among whom was Marie Magdalene, and Marie (the mother of Iames the lesse, and of Ioses) and Salome,	There were also women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome.	Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph, and Salome.
41	Which also when he was in Galile, folowed him, and ministred vnto him, and many other women which came vp with him vnto Hierusalem.	When he was in Galilee, they followed him and ministered to him, and there were also many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.	In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.
42	And nowe when the night was come (because it was the day of the preparation that is before the Sabbath)	And when evening had come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath,	It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So as evening approached,
43	Ioseph of Arimathea, an honorable counsellour, which also looked for the kingdome of God, came, and went in boldly vnto Pilate, and asked the body of Iesus.	Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.	Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body.
44	And Pilate marueiled, if he were already dead, and called vnto him the Centurion, and asked of him whether he had bene any while dead.	Pilate was surprised to hear that he should have already died. And summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead.	Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died.
45	And when he knewe the trueth of the Centurion, he gaue the body to Ioseph:	And when he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the corpse to Joseph.	When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph.
46	Who bought a linnen cloth, & tooke him downe, and wrapped him in the linnen cloth, and laide him in a tombe that was hewen out of a rocke, and rolled a stone vnto the doore of the sepulchre:	And Joseph bought a linen shroud, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen shroud and laid him in a tomb that had been cut out of the rock. And he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.	So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.
47	And Marie Magdalene, and Marie Ioses mother, behelde where he should be layed.	Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid.	Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where he was laid.
