1 And immediately in the morning, after the leaders of the priests had taken counsel with the elders and the scribes and the entire council, binding Jesus, they led him away and delivered him to Pilate. And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. And they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him over to Pilate. Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.
2 And Pilate questioned him, “You are the king of the Jews?” But in response, he said to him, “You are saying it.” And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.” “Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
3 And the leaders of the priests accused him in many things. And the chief priests accused him of many things. The chief priests accused him of many things.
4 Then Pilate again questioned him, saying: “Do you not have any response? See how greatly they accuse you.” And Pilate again asked him, “Have you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against you.” So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.”
5 But Jesus continued to give no response, so that Pilate wondered. But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed. But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.
6 Now on the feast day, he was accustomed to release to them one of the prisoners, whomever they requested. Now at the feast he used to release for them one prisoner for whom they asked. Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested.
7 But there was one called Barabbas, who had committed murder in the sedition, who was confined with those of the sedition. And among the rebels in prison, who had committed murder in the insurrection, there was a man called Barabbas. A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising.
8 And when the crowd had ascended, they began to petition him to do as he always did for them. And the crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do as he usually did for them. The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.
9 But Pilate answered them and said, “Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?” And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” “Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate,
10 For he knew that it was out of envy that the leaders of the priests had betrayed him. For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up. knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him.

13 But again they cried out, “Crucify him.” And they cried out again, “Crucify him.” “Crucify him!” they shouted.
14 Yet truly, Pilate said to them: “Why? What evil has he done?” But they cried out all the more, “Crucify him.” And Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.” “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
15 Then Pilate, wishing to satisfy the people, released Barabbas to them, and he delivered Jesus, having severely scourged him, to be crucified. So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.
16 Then the soldiers led him away to the court of the praetorium. And they called together the entire cohort. 35 And some of those standing near, upon hearing this, said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.” And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.” When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”
36 Then one of them, running and filling a sponge with vinegar, and placing it around a reed, gave it to him to drink, saying: “Wait. Let us see if Elijah will come to take him down.” And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.” Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.
37 Then Jesus, having emitted a loud cry, expired. And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.
