3	the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make ready the way of the Lord! 10	Immediately coming up from the water, he saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 17	Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you into fishers for men.”	And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”	“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
18	Immediately they left their nets, and followed him.	And immediately they left their nets and followed him.	At once they left their nets and followed him.
19	Going on a little further from there, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets. 20	Immediately he called them, and they left their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him. 21	They went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught. 22	They were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes. The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.
23	Immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out,	And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out,	Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out,
24	saying, “Ha! What do we have to do with you, Jesus, you Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God!”	“What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.”	“What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
25	Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!”	But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!”	“Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!”
26	The unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.	And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him.	The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
27	They were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him!”	And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.”	The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.”
28	The report of him went out immediately everywhere into all the region of Galilee and its surrounding area.	And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.	News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
29	Immediately, when they had come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.	And immediately he left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.	As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew.
30	Now Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him about her.	Now Simon’s mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her.	Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her.
31	He came and took her by the hand and raised her up. The fever left her immediately, and she served them.	And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.	So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.
32	At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were possessed by demons.	That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons.	That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed.
33	All the city was gathered together at the door.	And the whole city was gathered together at the door.	The whole town gathered at the door,
34	He healed many who were sick with various diseases and cast out many demons. He didn’t allow the demons to speak, because they knew him. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.
35	Early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there.	And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.	Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
36	Simon and those who were with him searched for him.	And Simon and those who were with him searched for him,	Simon and his companions went to look for him,
37	They found him and told him, “Everyone is looking for you.”	and they found him and said to him, “Everyone is looking for you.”	and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”
38	He said to them, “Let’s go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because I came out for this reason.”	And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out.”	Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”
39	He went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons.	And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.	So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
40	A leper came to him, begging him, kneeling down to him, and saying to him, “If you want to, you can make me clean.”	And a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.”	A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”
41	Being moved with compassion, he stretched out his hand, and touched him, and said to him, “I want to. Be made clean.”	Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, “I will; be clean.”	Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!”
42	When he had said this, immediately the leprosy departed from him and he was made clean.	And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean.	Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.
43	He strictly warned him and immediately sent him out,	And Jesus sternly charged him and sent him away at once,	Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning:
44	and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anybody, but go show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.”	and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”	“See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
45	But he went out, and began to proclaim it much, and to spread about the matter, so that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was outside in desert places. People came to him from everywhere.	But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in desolate places, and people were coming to him from every quarter.	Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.
