2	It is written in the prophet, "behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.	As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way,	as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way” —
3	The voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight."	the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’”	“a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”
4	accordingly, John baptized in the desart, and preach'd the baptism of repentance, for the remission of sins.	John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.	And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
5	all Judea, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, went out to meet him, and having confess'd their sins, he baptized them in the river Jordan.	And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.	The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
6	now John was clothed with camels hair, with a leathern girdle about his waist: and his food was locusts and wild honey.	Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey.	John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.
7	among other things he said, there comes one after me, who is superiour to me, I am not worthy to stoop down and untie his shoes.	And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.	And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.
8	I indeed have baptized you with water, but he shall baptize you with the effusion of the holy Ghost.	I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”	I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
9	At that time Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in Jordan.	In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.	At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
10	and as soon as he was got out of the water, he saw the heavens open, and the spirit lighting upon him, like a dove.	And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.	Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
11	when this voice from heaven was heard, "thou art my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased."	And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”	And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
12	presently after the spirit convey'd him into the desart.	The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.	At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness,
13	where he continued forty days, being tempted by Satan: and when he was among the wild beasts, angels ministred unto him.	And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him.	and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.
14	But after John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, spreading the good news of the kingdom of the Messiah.	Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God,	After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.
15	"the time, said he, is accomplish'd, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."	and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”	“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
16	Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew his brother, casting their net into the sea:	Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.	As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.
17	(for they were fishers) and Jesus said to them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.	And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”	“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
18	immediately they quitted their nets, and followed him.	And immediately they left their nets and followed him.	At once they left their nets and followed him.
19	when he had gone a little further, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the bark mending their nets, whereupon he called them:	And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets.	When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets.
20	and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the people he had hired, and went after him.	And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.	Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
21	As soon as they were come to Capernaum, he entred into the synagogue, and it being the sabbath, instructed them.	And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and was teaching.	They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach.
22	and they were astonished at his manner of preaching: for he spoke with an air of authority, and not as the Scribes.	And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.	The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.
23	now there was in their synagogue a demoniack, who cried out, ah,	And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out,	Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out,
24	what have we to do with thee, Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to torment us? I know thee who thou art, the holy one of God.	“What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.”	“What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
25	and Jesus threatned him, be mute, said he, and come out.	But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!”	“Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!”
26	and when the unclean spirit had thrown him into convulsions, with a loud cry, he came out of him.	And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him.	The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
27	at which they were all so amazed, that they ask'd one another, what's the meaning of all this? what new doctrine is here? for he commands with authority even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.	And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.”	The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.”
28	upon this his fame immediately spread abroad over all the region of Galilee.	And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.	News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
29	As soon as they were come out of the synagogue, they went with James and John into the house of Simon and Andrew,	And immediately he left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.	As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew.
30	where Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, who presently acquainted Jesus with it.	Now Simon’s mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her.	Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her.
31	and he came, and taking her by the hand, lift her up; upon which the fever immediately left her, and she served them at table.	And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.	So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.
32	In the evening, when the sun was set, they brought to him many diseased, and several demoniacks.	That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons.	That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed.
33	the whole town being assembled before the door.	And the whole city was gathered together at the door.	The whole town gathered at the door,
34	and he healed many that were variously affected with diseases, and cast out many demons, not allowing them to say that they knew him.	And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.	and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.
35	On the morrow rising up, while it was yet dark, he went out, and retired into a solitary place, where he prayed.	And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.	Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
36	Simon, and the rest of his company, followed after him.	And Simon and those who were with him searched for him,	Simon and his companions went to look for him,
37	and when they had found him, they said, the people are seeking for you.	and they found him and said to him, “Everyone is looking for you.”	and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!”
38	and he said unto them, let us go into the neighbouring villages, that I may preach there likewise, for that was the design of my coming.	And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for that is why I came out.”	Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”
39	and he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out demons.	And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.	So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
40	And there came a leper to him, who fell on his knees, and thus address'd him, "if you will, you can heal me."	And a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.”	A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”
41	Jesus then mov'd with compassion, held out his hand, and touching him, said, I will, be thou healed.	Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, “I will; be clean.”	Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!”
42	and while he was speaking, the leprosy left him in an instant, and he was cur'd.	And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean.	Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed.
43	immediately Jesus sent him away, severely charging him, have a care,	And Jesus sternly charged him and sent him away at once,	Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning:
44	said he, how you take the least notice of this to any man: but go, show your self to the priest, and offer for your cure what Moses commanded, that this may serve as a testimony against them.	and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”	“See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
45	but as soon as he was gone, he began freely to talk of it, and blazed it about every where, so that Jesus could not go publickly into the city any more, but stay'd in the out parts, which were not much frequented, where people came to him from every quarter.	But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in desolate places, and people were coming to him from every quarter.	Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.
