The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.1This is the beginning of the gospel of Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God.
As it is written in the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.”2As it is written in the prophet Isaiah, "See! I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way.
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.’ ”3He is a voice calling out in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way for the Lord! Make his paths straight!'"
John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.4John was baptizing in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism about repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.5People from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were flocking to him, being baptized by him while they confessed their sins.
Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.6Now John was dressed in camel's hair with a leather belt around his waist. He ate grasshoppers and wild honey.
And he preached, saying, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose.7He kept proclaiming, "The one who is coming after me is stronger than I am, and I am not worthy to bend down and untie his sandal straps.
I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”8I baptized you with water, but it is he who will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.9In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove.10Just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens split open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.
Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”11Then a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with you!"
Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness.12At once the Spirit drove him into the wilderness.
And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.13He was in the wilderness for 40 days being tempted by Satan. He was among wild animals, and angels were ministering to him.
Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,14Now after John had been arrested, Jesus went to Galilee and proclaimed the gospel about the kingdom of God.
and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”15He said, "The time is now! The kingdom of God is near! Repent, and keep believing the gospel!"
And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.16While Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew. They were throwing a net into the sea because they were fishermen.
Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”17Jesus told them, "Follow me, and I'll make you fishers of people!"
They immediately left their nets and followed Him.18So immediately they left their nets and followed him.
When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets.19Going on a little farther, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat repairing their nets.
And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.20He immediately called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught.21Then they went to Capernaum. As soon as it was the Sabbaths, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach.
And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.22The people were utterly amazed at his teaching, because he was teaching them like one with authority, and not like their scribes.
Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out,23All of a sudden, there was a man in their synagogue who had an unclean spirit! He screamed,
saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”24"What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!"
But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!”25But Jesus rebuked him. "Be quiet," he ordered, "and come out of him!"
And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him.26At this, the unclean spirit shook the man, cried out with a loud voice, and came out of him.
Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”27All the people were so stunned that they kept saying to each other, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He tells even the unclean spirits what to do, and they obey him!"
And immediately His fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee.28At once his fame began to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee.
Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.29After they left the synagogue, they went directly to the house of Simon and Andrew, along with James and John.
But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once.30Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying in bed, sick with a fever, so they promptly told Jesus about her.
So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.31He went up to her, took her by the hand, and helped her up. The fever left her, and she began serving them.
At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed.32When evening came, after the sun had set, people started bringing to him everyone who was sick or possessed by demons.
And the whole city was gathered together at the door.33In fact, the whole city gathered at the door.
Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him.34He healed many who were sick with various diseases and drove out many demons. However, he wouldn't allow the demons to speak because they knew who he was.
Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.35In the morning, while it was still very dark, Jesus got up and went to a deserted place and prayed there.
And Simon and those who were with Him searched for Him.36Simon and his companions searched frantically for him.
When they found Him, they said to Him, “Everyone is looking for You.”37When they found him, they told him, "Everyone's looking for you."
But He said to them, “Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth.”38"Let's go to the neighboring town," he replied, "so I can preach there, too, because that's why I came."
And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons.39So he went throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.”40Then a leper came to Jesus and began pleading with him. He fell on his knees and told him, "If you want to, you can make me clean."
Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”41Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand, touched him, and told him, "I do want to. Be made clean!"
As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.42Instantly the leprosy left him, and he was clean.
And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once,43Then Jesus sternly warned him and encouraged him to go at once.
and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”44He told the man, "Be sure that you don't tell anyone. Instead, go and show yourself to the priest, and then offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded as proof to the authorities."
However, he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.45But when the man left, he began to proclaim it freely. He spread the news so widely that Jesus could no longer enter a town openly, but had to stay out in deserted places. Still, people kept coming to him from everywhere.
