1For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil. We have heard it with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in days long ago.

1לַמְנַצֵּ֬חַ לִבְנֵי־ קֹ֬רַח מַשְׂכִּֽיל׃ אֱלֹהִ֤ים ׀ בְּאָזְנֵ֬ינוּ שָׁמַ֗עְנוּ אֲבוֹתֵ֥ינוּ סִפְּרוּ־ לָ֑נוּ פֹּ֥עַל פָּעַ֥לְתָּ בִֽ֝ימֵיהֶ֗ם בִּ֣ימֵי קֶֽדֶם׃

2With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish.

2אַתָּ֤ה ׀ יָדְךָ֡ גּוֹיִ֣ם ה֭וֹרַשְׁתָּ וַתִּטָּעֵ֑ם תָּרַ֥ע לְ֝אֻמִּ֗ים וַֽתְּשַׁלְּחֵֽם׃

3It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them.

3כִּ֤י לֹ֪א בְחַרְבָּ֡ם יָ֥רְשׁוּ אָ֗רֶץ וּזְרוֹעָם֮ לֹא־ הוֹשִׁ֪יעָ֫ה לָּ֥מוֹ כִּֽי־ יְמִֽינְךָ֣ וּ֭זְרוֹעֲךָ וְא֥וֹר פָּנֶ֗יךָ כִּ֣י רְצִיתָֽם׃

4You are my King and my God, who decrees victories for Jacob.

4אַתָּה־ ה֣וּא מַלְכִּ֣י אֱלֹהִ֑ים צַ֝וֵּ֗ה יְשׁוּע֥וֹת יַעֲקֹֽב׃

5Through you we push back our enemies; through your name we trample our foes.

5בְּ֭ךָ צָרֵ֣ינוּ נְנַגֵּ֑חַ בְּ֝שִׁמְךָ֗ נָב֥וּס קָמֵֽינוּ׃

6I put no trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory;

6כִּ֤י לֹ֣א בְקַשְׁתִּ֣י אֶבְטָ֑ח וְ֝חַרְבִּ֗י לֹ֣א תוֹשִׁיעֵֽנִי׃

7but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame.

7כִּ֣י ה֭וֹשַׁעְתָּנוּ מִצָּרֵ֑ינוּ וּמְשַׂנְאֵ֥ינוּ הֱבִישֽׁוֹתָ׃

8In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever.

8בֵּֽ֭אלֹהִים הִלַּלְ֣נוּ‪‬ כָל־ הַיּ֑וֹם וְשִׁמְךָ֓ ׀ לְעוֹלָ֖ם נוֹדֶ֣ה סֶֽלָה׃

9But now you have rejected and humbled us; you no longer go out with our armies.

9אַף־ זָ֭נַחְתָּ וַתַּכְלִימֵ֑נוּ וְלֹא־ תֵ֝צֵ֗א בְּצִבְאוֹתֵֽינוּ׃

10You made us retreat before the enemy, and our adversaries have plundered us.

10תְּשִׁיבֵ֣נוּ אָ֭חוֹר מִנִּי־ צָ֑ר וּ֝מְשַׂנְאֵ֗ינוּ שָׁ֣סוּ לָֽמוֹ׃

11You gave us up to be devoured like sheep and have scattered us among the nations.

11תִּ֭תְּנֵנוּ כְּצֹ֣אן מַאֲכָ֑ל וּ֝בַגּוֹיִ֗ם זֵרִיתָֽנוּ׃

12You sold your people for a pittance, gaining nothing from their sale.

12תִּמְכֹּֽר־ עַמְּךָ֥ בְלֹא־ ה֑וֹן וְלֹ֥א־ רִ֝בִּ֗יתָ בִּמְחִירֵיהֶֽם׃

13You have made us a reproach to our neighbors, the scorn and derision of those around us.

13תְּשִׂימֵ֣נוּ חֶ֭רְפָּה לִשְׁכֵנֵ֑ינוּ לַ֥עַג וָ֝קֶ֗לֶס לִסְבִיבוֹתֵֽינוּ׃

14You have made us a byword among the nations; the peoples shake their heads at us.

14תְּשִׂימֵ֣נוּ מָ֭שָׁל בַּגּוֹיִ֑ם מְנֽוֹד־ רֹ֝֗אשׁ בַּל־ אֻמִּֽים׃

15I live in disgrace all day long, and my face is covered with shame

15כָּל־ הַ֭יּוֹם כְּלִמָּתִ֣י נֶגְדִּ֑י וּבֹ֖שֶׁת פָּנַ֣י כִּסָּֽתְנִי׃

16at the taunts of those who reproach and revile me, because of the enemy, who is bent on revenge.

16מִ֭קּוֹל מְחָרֵ֣ף וּמְגַדֵּ֑ף מִפְּנֵ֥י א֝וֹיֵ֗ב וּמִתְנַקֵּֽם׃

17All this came upon us, though we had not forgotten you; we had not been false to your covenant.

17כָּל־ זֹ֣את בָּ֭אַתְנוּ וְלֹ֣א שְׁכַחֲנ֑וּךָ וְלֹֽא־ שִׁ֝קַּ֗רְנוּ בִּבְרִיתֶֽךָ׃

18Our hearts had not turned back; our feet had not strayed from your path.

18לֹא־ נָס֣וֹג אָח֣וֹר לִבֵּ֑נוּ וַתֵּ֥ט אֲשֻׁרֵ֗ינוּ מִנִּ֥י אָרְחֶֽךָ׃

19But you crushed us and made us a haunt for jackals; you covered us over with deep darkness.

19כִּ֣י דִ֭כִּיתָנוּ בִּמְק֣וֹם תַּנִּ֑ים וַתְּכַ֖ס עָלֵ֣ינוּ בְצַלְמָֽוֶת׃

20If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god,

20אִם־ שָׁ֭כַחְנוּ שֵׁ֣ם אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ וַנִּפְרֹ֥שׂ כַּ֝פֵּ֗ינוּ לְאֵ֣ל זָֽר׃

21would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart?

21הֲלֹ֣א אֱ֭לֹהִים יַֽחֲקָר־ זֹ֑את כִּֽי־ ה֥וּא יֹ֝דֵ֗עַ תַּעֲלֻמ֥וֹת לֵֽב׃

22Yet for your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.

22כִּֽי־ עָ֭לֶיךָ הֹרַ֣גְנוּ כָל־ הַיּ֑וֹם נֶ֝חְשַׁ֗בְנוּ כְּצֹ֣אן טִבְחָֽה׃

23Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever.

23ע֤וּרָה ׀ לָ֖מָּה תִישַׁ֥ן ׀ אֲדֹנָ֑י הָ֝קִ֗יצָה אַל־ תִּזְנַ֥ח לָנֶֽצַח׃

24Why do you hide your face and forget our misery and oppression?

24לָֽמָּה־ פָנֶ֥יךָ תַסְתִּ֑יר תִּשְׁכַּ֖ח עָנְיֵ֣נוּ וְֽלַחֲצֵֽנוּ׃

25We are brought down to the dust; our bodies cling to the ground.

25כִּ֤י שָׁ֣חָה לֶעָפָ֣ר נַפְשֵׁ֑נוּ דָּבְקָ֖ה לָאָ֣רֶץ בִּטְנֵֽנוּ׃

26Rise up and help us; rescue us because of your unfailing love.

26ק֭וּמָֽה עֶזְרָ֣תָה לָּ֑נוּ וּ֝פְדֵ֗נוּ לְמַ֣עַן חַסְדֶּֽךָ׃
