Paul’s Greeting to Timothy
(1 Timothy 1:1–2)
1 Παῦλος (Paul) ἀπόστολος (an apostle) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) διὰ (by) θελήματος (the will) Θεοῦ (of God) κατ’ (according to) ἐπαγγελίαν (the promise) ζωῆς (of life) τῆς (that is) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus)
2 Τιμοθέῳ (To Timothy) ἀγαπητῷ (my beloved) τέκνῳ (child)·
Χάρις (Grace), ἔλεος (mercy), εἰρήνη (and peace) ἀπὸ (from) Θεοῦ (God) Πατρὸς (the Father) καὶ (and) Χριστοῦ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us).

3 Χάριν (Gratitude) ἔχω (I have) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God), ᾧ (whom) λατρεύω (I serve) ἀπὸ (from) προγόνων (the forefathers) ἐν (with) καθαρᾷ (a pure) συνειδήσει (conscience), ὡς (as) ἀδιάλειπτον (unceasing) ἔχω (I have) τὴν (-) περὶ (of) σοῦ (you) μνείαν (remembrance) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) δεήσεσίν (prayers) μου (of me) νυκτὸς (night) καὶ (and) ἡμέρας (day),
4 ἐπιποθῶν (longing) σε (you) ἰδεῖν (to see), μεμνημένος (recalling) σου (your) τῶν (-) δακρύων (tears), ἵνα (so that) χαρᾶς (with joy) πληρωθῶ (I may be filled),
5 ὑπόμνησιν (remembrance) λαβὼν (having taken) τῆς (of the) ἐν (in) σοὶ (you) ἀνυποκρίτου (unfeigned) πίστεως (faith), ἥτις (which) ἐνῴκησεν (dwelt) πρῶτον (first) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) μάμμῃ (grandmother) σου (of you) Λωΐδι (Lois) καὶ (and) τῇ (in the) μητρί (mother) σου (of you) Εὐνίκῃ (Eunice), πέπεισμαι (I am persuaded) δὲ (now) ὅτι (that) καὶ (also) ἐν (it is in) σοί (you).
6 Δι’ (Because of) ἣν (this) αἰτίαν (reason) ἀναμιμνῄσκω (I remind) σε (you) ἀναζωπυρεῖν (to rekindle) τὸ (the) χάρισμα (gift) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) ἐν (in) σοὶ (you) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) ἐπιθέσεως (laying on) τῶν (of the) χειρῶν (hands) μου (of me).
7 οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἔδωκεν (gave) ἡμῖν (us) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) πνεῦμα (a spirit) δειλίας (of timidity), ἀλλὰ (but) δυνάμεως (of power) καὶ (and) ἀγάπης (of love) καὶ (and) σωφρονισμοῦ (of soundness of mind).
8 Μὴ (Not) οὖν (therefore) ἐπαισχυνθῇς (you should be ashamed of) τὸ (the) μαρτύριον (testimony) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) μηδὲ (nor) ἐμὲ (of me) τὸν (the) δέσμιον (prisoner) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἀλλὰ (but) συνκακοπάθησον (suffer together) τῷ (for the) εὐαγγελίῳ (gospel) κατὰ (according to) δύναμιν (the power) Θεοῦ (of God),
9 τοῦ (the One) σώσαντος (having saved) ἡμᾶς (us) καὶ (and) καλέσαντος (having called us) κλήσει (with a calling) ἁγίᾳ (holy), οὐ (not) κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) ἡμῶν (of us) ἀλλὰ (but) κατὰ (according to) ἰδίαν (His own) πρόθεσιν (purpose) καὶ (and) χάριν (grace), τὴν (-) δοθεῖσαν (having been given) ἡμῖν (to us) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) πρὸ (before) χρόνων (times) αἰωνίων (eternal),
10 φανερωθεῖσαν (having been made manifest) δὲ (also) νῦν (now) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) ἐπιφανείας (appearing) τοῦ (of the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us) Χριστοῦ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), καταργήσαντος (having abolished) μὲν (indeed) τὸν (-) θάνατον (death) φωτίσαντος (having brought to light) δὲ (now) ζωὴν (life) καὶ (and) ἀφθαρσίαν (immortality) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel),
11 εἰς (to) ὃ (which) ἐτέθην (was appointed) ἐγὼ (I) κήρυξ (a preacher) καὶ (and) ἀπόστολος (an apostle) καὶ (and) διδάσκαλος (a teacher)·
12 Δι’ (Because of) ἣν (this) αἰτίαν (reason) καὶ (also) ταῦτα (these things) πάσχω (I suffer), ἀλλ’ (But) οὐκ (not) ἐπαισχύνομαι (I am ashamed), οἶδα (I know) γὰρ (for) ᾧ (whom) πεπίστευκα (I have believed), καὶ (and) πέπεισμαι (I am persuaded) ὅτι (that) δυνατός (able) ἐστιν (He is) τὴν (the) παραθήκην (deposit entrusted) μου (of me) φυλάξαι (to guard) εἰς (for) ἐκείνην (that) τὴν (-) ἡμέραν (day).

13 Ὑποτύπωσιν (The pattern) ἔχε (hold) ὑγιαινόντων (of sound) λόγων (words) ὧν (which) παρ’ (from) ἐμοῦ (me) ἤκουσας (you heard) ἐν (in) πίστει (the faith) καὶ (and) ἀγάπῃ (love) τῇ (that are) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus)·
14 τὴν (The) καλὴν (good) παραθήκην (deposit entrusted) φύλαξον (guard) διὰ (by) Πνεύματος (the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy) τοῦ (the One) ἐνοικοῦντος (dwelling) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us).
15 Οἶδας (You know) τοῦτο (this), ὅτι (that) ἀπεστράφησάν (turned away from) με (me) πάντες (all) οἱ (those) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἀσίᾳ (Asia), ὧν (of whom) ἐστιν (are) Φύγελος (Phygelus) καὶ (and) Ἑρμογένης (Hermogenes).
16 Δῴη (May give) ἔλεος (mercy) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) τῷ (to the) Ὀνησιφόρου (of Onesiphorus) οἴκῳ (household), ὅτι (because) πολλάκις (often) με (me) ἀνέψυξεν (he refreshed), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) ἅλυσίν (chain) μου (of me) οὐκ (not) ἐπαισχύνθη (he was ashamed of),
17 ἀλλὰ (But) γενόμενος (being) ἐν (in) Ῥώμῃ (Rome) σπουδαίως (earnestly) ἐζήτησέν (he sought) με (me) καὶ (and) εὗρεν (found me)·—
18 Δῴη (May give) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) εὑρεῖν (to find) ἔλεος (mercy) παρὰ (from) Κυρίου (the Lord) ἐν (in) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ἡμέρᾳ (day)·—καὶ (And) ὅσα (how much) ἐν (in) Ἐφέσῳ (Ephesus) διηκόνησεν (he served), βέλτιον (very well) σὺ (you) γινώσκεις (know).
