The Ark Enters the Temple
(2 Chronicles 5:1–14)

1 אָ֣ז (Then) יַקְהֵ֣ל (assembled) שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה (Solomon) אֶת־ (-) זִקְנֵ֣י (the elders) יִשְׂרָאֵ֡ל (of Israel) אֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) רָאשֵׁ֣י (the heads) הַמַּטּוֹת֩ (of the tribes), נְשִׂיאֵ֨י (the chief) הָאָב֜וֹת (fathers) לִבְנֵ֧י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל (of Israel), אֶל־ (to) הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ (King) שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה (Solomon) יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם (in Jerusalem), לְֽהַעֲל֞וֹת (that they might bring up) אֶת־ (-) אֲר֧וֹן (the ark) בְּרִית־ (of the covenant) יְהוָ֛ה (of YHWH) מֵעִ֥יר (from the City) דָּוִ֖ד (of David), הִ֥יא (that is) צִיּֽוֹן׃ (Zion). 2 וַיִּקָּ֨הֲל֜וּ (And assembled) אֶל־ (with) הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ (King) שְׁלֹמֹה֙ (Solomon) כָּל־ (all) אִ֣ישׁ (the men) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) בְּיֶ֥רַח (in the month) הָאֵֽתָנִ֖ים (of Ethanim). בֶּחָ֑ג (At the feast) ה֖וּא (it is) הַחֹ֥דֶשׁ (the month) הַשְּׁבִיעִֽי׃ (seventh).

3 וַיָּבֹ֕אוּ (And came) כֹּ֖ל (all) זִקְנֵ֣י (the elders) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ (and took up) הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים (the priests) אֶת־ (-) הָאָרֽוֹן׃ (the ark). 4 וַֽיַּעֲל֞וּ (And they brought up) אֶת־ (-) אֲר֤וֹן (the ark) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH), וְאֶת־ (and) אֹ֣הֶל (the Tent) מוֹעֵ֔ד (of Meeting), וְאֶֽת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) כְּלֵ֥י (furnishings) הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ (the holy) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that were) בָּאֹ֑הֶל (in the tabernacle). וַיַּעֲל֣וּ (And brought up) אֹתָ֔ם (them) הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים (the priests) וְהַלְוִיִּֽם׃ (and the Levites).

5 וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ (And King) שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה (Solomon) וְכָל־ (and all) עֲדַ֤ת (the congregation) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) הַנּוֹעָדִ֣ים (who were assembled) עָלָ֔יו (with him) אִתּ֖וֹ (were with him) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face of) הָֽאָר֑וֹן (the ark), מְזַבְּחִים֙ (sacrificing) צֹ֣אן (sheep) וּבָקָ֔ר (and oxen) אֲשֶׁ֧ר (that) לֹֽא־ (not) יִסָּפְר֛וּ (could be counted) וְלֹ֥א (or) יִמָּנ֖וּ (numbered) מֵרֹֽב׃ (for multitude).

6 וַיָּבִ֣אוּ (And brought in) הַ֠כֹּהֲנִים (the priests) אֶת־ (-) אֲר֨וֹן (the ark) בְּרִית־ (of the covenant) יְהוָ֧ה (of YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מְקוֹמ֛וֹ (its place), אֶל־ (into) דְּבִ֥יר (the inner sanctuary) הַבַּ֖יִת (of the house), אֶל־ (to) קֹ֣דֶשׁ (the Holy) הַקֳּדָשִׁ֑ים (of Holies), אֶל־ (to) תַּ֖חַת (under) כַּנְפֵ֥י (the wings) הַכְּרוּבִֽים׃ (of the cherubim). 7 כִּ֤י (For) הַכְּרוּבִים֙ (the cherubim) פֹּרְשִׂ֣ים (spread forth) כְּנָפַ֔יִם (two wings) אֶל־ (toward) מְק֖וֹם (the place) הָֽאָר֑וֹן (of the ark), וַיָּסֹ֧כּוּ (and they covered) הַכְּרֻבִ֛ים (the cherubim) עַל־ (over) הָאָר֥וֹן (the ark) וְעַל־ (and) בַּדָּ֖יו (its poles) מִלְמָֽעְלָה׃ (from above).

8 וַֽיַּאֲרִכוּ֮ (And extended) הַבַּדִּים֒ (the poles) וַיֵּרָאוּ֩ (so that could be seen) רָאשֵׁ֨י (the ends) הַבַּדִּ֤ים (of the poles) מִן־ (from) הַקֹּ֙דֶשׁ֙ (the Holy Place) עַל־ (upon) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) הַדְּבִ֔יר (of the inner sanctuary), וְלֹ֥א (not) יֵרָא֖וּ (they could be seen) הַח֑וּצָה (from outside); וַיִּ֣הְיוּ (and they are) שָׁ֔ם (there) עַ֖ד (to) הַיּ֥וֹם (day) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this).

9 אֵ֚ין (Nothing was) בָּֽאָר֔וֹן (in the ark) רַ֗ק (except) שְׁנֵי֙ (two) לֻח֣וֹת (the tablets) הָאֲבָנִ֔ים (of stone), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (which) הִנִּ֥חַ (put) שָׁ֛ם (there) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) בְּחֹרֵ֑ב (at Horeb) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (when) כָּרַ֤ת (cut) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) עִם־ (with) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) בְּצֵאתָ֖ם (when they came out) מֵאֶ֥רֶץ (of the land) מִצְרָֽיִם׃ (of Egypt).

10 וַיְהִ֕י (And it came to pass), בְּצֵ֥את (when came out) הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים (the priests) מִן־ (of) הַקֹּ֑דֶשׁ (the Holy Place), וְהֶעָנָ֥ן (that the cloud) מָלֵ֖א (filled) אֶת־ (-) בֵּ֥ית (the house) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH), 11 וְלֹֽא־ (so that not) יָכְל֧וּ (could) הַכֹּהֲנִ֛ים (the priests) לַעֲמֹ֥ד (stand) לְשָׁרֵ֖ת (to minister) מִפְּנֵ֥י (because) הֶֽעָנָ֑ן (of the cloud); כִּי־ (for) מָלֵ֥א (filled) כְבוֹד־ (the glory) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֶת־ (-) בֵּ֥ית (the house) יְהוָֽה׃פ (of YHWH).

Solomon Blesses Yahweh
(2 Chronicles 6:1–11)

12 אָ֖ז (Then) אָמַ֣ר (spoke) שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה (Solomon):

יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אָמַ֔ר (has said) לִשְׁכֹּ֖ן (He would dwell)

בָּעֲרָפֶֽל׃ (in the dark cloud).

13 בָּנֹ֥ה (Building) בָנִ֛יתִי (I have built) בֵּ֥ית (a house) זְבֻ֖ל (exalted) לָ֑ךְ (unto You),

מָכ֥וֹן (and a place) לְשִׁבְתְּךָ֖ (for You to dwell) עוֹלָמִֽים׃ (forever).

14 וַיַּסֵּ֤ב (And turned around) הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ (the king) אֶת־ (-) פָּנָ֔יו (his face) וַיְבָ֕רֶךְ (and he blessed) אֵ֖ת (-) כָּל־ (all) קְהַ֣ל (the assembly) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), וְכָל־ (and all) קְהַ֥ל (the assembly) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) עֹמֵֽד׃ (was standing). 15 וַיֹּ֗אמֶר (And he said),

בָּר֤וּךְ (Blessed be) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), אֲשֶׁר֙ (who) דִּבֶּ֣ר (spoke) בְּפִ֔יו (by his mouth) אֵ֖ת (to) דָּוִ֣ד (David) אָבִ֑י (my father), וּבְיָד֥וֹ (and by his hand) מִלֵּ֖א (He has fulfilled it) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 16 מִן־ (Since) הַיּ֗וֹם (the day) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) הוֹצֵ֜אתִי (I brought) אֶת־ (-) עַמִּ֣י (My people) אֶת־ (-) יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ (Israel) מִמִּצְרַיִם֒ (out of Egypt), לֹֽא־ (not) בָחַ֣רְתִּי (I have chosen) בְעִ֗יר (city) מִכֹּל֙ (from any) שִׁבְטֵ֣י (tribe) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) לִבְנ֣וֹת (in which to build) בַּ֔יִת (a house) לִהְי֥וֹת (that might be) שְׁמִ֖י (My Name) שָׁ֑ם (there). וָאֶבְחַ֣ר (And I chose) בְּדָוִ֔ד (David) לִֽהְי֖וֹת (to be) עַל־ (over) עַמִּ֥י (My people) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (Israel).

17 וַיְהִ֕י (And it was) עִם־ (with) לְבַ֖ב (the heart) דָּוִ֣ד (of David) אָבִ֑י (my father) לִבְנ֣וֹת (to build) בַּ֔יִת (a house) לְשֵׁ֥ם (for the name) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֥י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel). 18 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (And said) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) דָּוִ֣ד (David) אָבִ֔י (my father), יַ֗עַן (Because) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) הָיָה֙ (it was) עִם־ (in) לְבָ֣בְךָ֔ (your heart) לִבְנ֥וֹת (to build) בַּ֖יִת (a house) לִשְׁמִ֑י (for My name), הֱטִיבֹ֔תָ (you did well) כִּ֥י (that) הָיָ֖ה (it was) עִם־ (in) לְבָבֶֽךָ׃ (your heart). 19 רַ֣ק (Nevertheless) אַתָּ֔ה (you) לֹ֥א (not) תִבְנֶ֖ה (shall build) הַבָּ֑יִת (the house), כִּ֤י (but) אִם־ (rather) בִּנְךָ֙ (your son) הַיֹּצֵ֣א (who will come) מֵחֲלָצֶ֔יךָ (from your loins), הֽוּא־ (he) יִבְנֶ֥ה (shall build) הַבַּ֖יִת (the house) לִשְׁמִֽי׃ (for My name).

20 וַיָּ֣קֶם (And has fulfilled) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) דְּבָר֖וֹ (His word) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) דִּבֵּ֑ר (He spoke), וָאָקֻ֡ם (and I have risen up) תַּחַת֩ (in the place) דָּוִ֨ד (of David) אָבִ֜י (my father) וָאֵשֵׁ֣ב (and sit) עַל־ (on) כִּסֵּ֣א (the throne) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel), כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֙ (as) דִּבֶּ֣ר (spoke) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH). וָאֶבְנֶ֣ה (And I have built) הַבַּ֔יִת (the hous) לְשֵׁ֥ם (for the name) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֥י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel). 21 וָאָשִׂ֨ם (And I have made) שָׁ֤ם (there) מָקוֹם֙ (a place) לָֽאָר֔וֹן (for the ark), אֲשֶׁר־ (in which is) שָׁ֖ם (there) בְּרִ֣ית (the covenant) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) כָּרַת֙ (He made) עִם־ (with) אֲבֹתֵ֔ינוּ (our fathers) בְּהוֹצִיא֥וֹ (when He brought) אֹתָ֖ם (them) מֵאֶ֥רֶץ (out of the land) מִצְרָֽיִם׃ס (of Egypt).

Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication
(2 Chronicles 6:12–42)

22 וַיַּעֲמֹ֣ד (And stood) שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה (Solomon) לִפְנֵי֙ (before the face of) מִזְבַּ֣ח (the altar) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) נֶ֖גֶד (in front) כָּל־ (of all) קְהַ֣ל (the assembly) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), וַיִּפְרֹ֥שׂ (and he spread out) כַּפָּ֖יו (his hands) הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ (toward the heavens). 23 וַיֹּאמַ֗ר (And he said),

יְהוָ֞ה (O YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֤י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel), אֵין־ (there is not) כָּמ֣וֹךָ (like You) אֱלֹהִ֔ים (a God) בַּשָּׁמַ֣יִם (in the heavens) מִמַּ֔עַל (above) וְעַל־ (or on) הָאָ֖רֶץ (earth) מִתָּ֑חַת (below), שֹׁמֵ֤ר (keeping) הַבְּרִית֙ (Your covenant) וְֽהַחֶ֔סֶד (and loving devotion) לַעֲבָדֶ֕יךָ (with Your servants), הַהֹלְכִ֥ים (those walking) לְפָנֶ֖יךָ (before You) בְּכָל־ (with all) לִבָּֽם׃ (their heart), 24 אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who) שָׁמַ֗רְתָּ (have kept) לְעַבְדְּךָ֙ (for Your servant) דָּוִ֣ד (David) אָבִ֔י (my father) אֵ֥ת (-) אֲשֶׁר־ (what) דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ (You spoke) ל֑וֹ (to him), וַתְּדַבֵּ֥ר (and You have spoken) בְּפִ֛יךָ (with Your mouth) וּבְיָדְךָ֥ (and with Your hand) מִלֵּ֖אתָ (You have fulfilled it), כַּיּ֥וֹם (as the day) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this).

25 וְעַתָּ֞ה (And now), יְהוָ֣ה׀ (O YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל (of Israel), שְׁ֠מֹר (keep) לְעַבְדְּךָ֨ (for Your servant) דָוִ֤ד (David) אָבִי֙ (my father) אֵת֩ (-) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (what) דִּבַּ֤רְתָּ (You promised) לּוֹ֙ (to him), לֵאמֹ֔ר (saying), לֹא־ (Not) יִכָּרֵ֨ת (shall fail to have) לְךָ֥ (You) אִישׁ֙ (a man) מִלְּפָנַ֔י (before My face) יֹשֵׁ֖ב (sitting) עַל־ (on) כִּסֵּ֣א (the throne) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel); רַ֠ק (only) אִם־ (if) יִשְׁמְר֨וּ (take heed to) בָנֶ֤יךָ (your sons) אֶת־ (-) דַּרְכָּם֙ (their way), לָלֶ֣כֶת (that they walk) לְפָנַ֔י (before Me) כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר (as) הָלַ֖כְתָּ (you have walked) לְפָנָֽי׃ (before Me). 26 וְעַתָּ֖ה (And now), אֱלֹהֵ֣י (O God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), יֵאָ֤מֶן (let be proven faithful), נָא֙ (please), דְּבָרֶיךָ (Your word), אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which) דִּבַּ֔רְתָּ (You have spoken) לְעַבְדְּךָ֖ (to Your servant) דָּוִ֥ד (David) אָבִֽי׃ (my father).

27 כִּ֚י (But) הַֽאֻמְנָ֔ם (will indeed) יֵשֵׁ֥ב (dwell) אֱלֹהִ֖ים (God) עַל־ (on) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the earth)? הִ֠נֵּה (Behold), הַשָּׁמַ֜יִם (the heavens) וּשְׁמֵ֤י (and the heavens) הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ (of the heavens) לֹ֣א (not) יְכַלְכְּל֔וּךָ (can contain You). אַ֕ף (How much) כִּֽי־ (less) הַבַּ֥יִת (the house) הַזֶּ֖ה (this) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) בָּנִֽיתִי׃ (I have built)? 28 וּפָנִ֜יתָ (And You have turned) אֶל־ (to) תְּפִלַּ֧ת (the prayer) עַבְדְּךָ֛ (of Your servant), וְאֶל־ (and) תְּחִנָּת֖וֹ (his supplication), יְהוָ֣ה (O YHWH) אֱלֹהָ֑י (my God), לִשְׁמֹ֤עַ (to listen) אֶל־ (to) הָֽרִנָּה֙ (the cry) וְאֶל־ (and) הַתְּפִלָּ֔ה (the prayer) אֲשֶׁ֧ר (that) עַבְדְּךָ֛ (Your servant) מִתְפַּלֵּ֥ל (is praying) לְפָנֶ֖יךָ (before Your face) הַיּֽוֹם׃ (today):

29 לִהְיוֹת֩ (That may be) עֵינֶ֨ךָ (Your eyes) פְתֻח֜וֹת (open) אֶל־ (toward) הַבַּ֤יִת (the house) הַזֶּה֙ (this) לַ֣יְלָה (night) וָי֔וֹם (and day), אֶל־ (toward) הַ֨מָּק֔וֹם (the place) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (of which) אָמַ֔רְתָּ (You said), יִהְיֶ֥ה (Shall be) שְׁמִ֖י (My name) שָׁ֑ם (there), לִשְׁמֹ֙עַ֙ (that You may listen) אֶל־ (to) הַתְּפִלָּ֔ה (the prayer) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) יִתְפַּלֵּ֣ל (prays) עַבְדְּךָ֔ (Your servant) אֶל־ (toward) הַמָּק֖וֹם (the place) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this). 30 וְשָׁ֨מַעְתָּ֜ (And may You listen) אֶל־ (to) תְּחִנַּ֤ת (the supplication) עַבְדְּךָ֙ (of Your servant) וְעַמְּךָ֣ (and of Your people) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (Israel), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (when) יִֽתְפַּֽלְל֖וּ (they pray) אֶל־ (toward) הַמָּק֣וֹם (the place) הַזֶּ֑ה (this) וְ֠אַתָּה (and You) תִּשְׁמַ֞ע (may listen) אֶל־ (in) מְק֤וֹם (the place); שִׁבְתְּךָ֙ (of Your dwelling) אֶל־ (in) הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם (the heavens)— וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֖ (and You have listened), וְסָלָֽחְתָּ׃ (and have forgiven).

31 אֵת֩ (-) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (When) יֶחֱטָ֥א (sins) אִישׁ֙ (a man) לְרֵעֵ֔הוּ (against his neighbor), וְנָֽשָׁא־ (and is forced) ב֥וֹ (in it) אָלָ֖ה (an oath) לְהַֽאֲלֹת֑וֹ (to take), וּבָ֗א (and comes) אָלָ֛ה (and takes an oath) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) מִֽזְבַּחֲךָ֖ (Your altar) בַּבַּ֥יִת (in the house) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this). 32 וְאַתָּ֣ה׀ (And You) תִּשְׁמַ֣ע (may hear) הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם (in the heavens) וְעָשִׂ֙יתָ֙ (and act) וְשָׁפַטְתָּ֣ (and judge) אֶת־ (-) עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ (Your servants), לְהַרְשִׁ֣יעַ (condemning) רָשָׁ֔ע (the wicked), לָתֵ֥ת (bringing) דַּרְכּ֖וֹ (his way) בְּרֹאשׁ֑וֹ (on his head), וּלְהַצְדִּ֣יק (and justifying) צַדִּ֔יק (the righteous) לָ֥תֶת (by giving) ל֖וֹ (to him) כְּצִדְקָתֽוֹ׃ס (according to his righteousness).

33 בְּֽהִנָּגֵ֞ף (When are defeated) עַמְּךָ֧ (Your people) יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל (Israel) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) אוֹיֵ֖ב (an enemy) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (because) יֶחֶטְאוּ־ (they have sinned) לָ֑ךְ (against You), וְשָׁ֤בוּ (and they turn back) אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ (to You) וְהוֹד֣וּ (and confess) אֶת־ (-) שְׁמֶ֔ךָ (Your name), וְהִֽתְפַּֽלְל֧וּ (and they pray) וְהִֽתְחַנְּנ֛וּ (and make supplication) אֵלֶ֖יךָ (to You) בַּבַּ֥יִת (in the house) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this), 34 וְאַתָּה֙ (and You) תִּשְׁמַ֣ע (may hear) הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם (in the heavens) וְסָ֣לַחְתָּ֔ (and forgive) לְחַטַּ֖את (the sin) עַמְּךָ֣ (of Your people) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (Israel), וַהֲשֵֽׁבֹתָם֙ (and bring them back) אֶל־ (to) הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה (the land) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) נָתַ֖תָּ (You gave) לַאֲבוֹתָֽם׃ס (to their fathers).

35 בְּהֵעָצֵ֥ר (When are shut up) שָׁמַ֛יִם (the heavens) וְלֹא־ (and not) יִהְיֶ֥ה (there is) מָטָ֖ר (rain) כִּ֣י (because) יֶחֶטְאוּ־ (they have sinned) לָ֑ךְ (against You), וְהִֽתְפַּֽלְל֞וּ (and they pray) אֶל־ (toward) הַמָּק֤וֹם (place) הַזֶּה֙ (this) וְהוֹד֣וּ (and confess) אֶת־ (-) שְׁמֶ֔ךָ (Your name), וּמֵחַטָּאתָ֥ם (and from their sin) יְשׁוּב֖וּן (they turn back) כִּ֥י (because) תַעֲנֵֽם׃ (You afflict them), 36 וְאַתָּ֣ה׀ (and You) תִּשְׁמַ֣ע (may hear) הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם (in the heavens) וְסָ֨לַחְתָּ֜ (and forgive) לְחַטַּ֤את (the sin) עֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙ (of Your servants) וְעַמְּךָ֣ (and of Your people) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (Israel), כִּ֥י (that) תוֹרֵ֛ם (You may teach them) אֶת־ (-) הַדֶּ֥רֶךְ (the way) הַטּוֹבָ֖ה (good) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) יֵֽלְכוּ־ (they should walk) בָ֑הּ (in it), וְנָתַתָּ֤ה (and send) מָטָר֙ (rain) עַל־ (on) אַרְצְךָ֔ (Your land) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) נָתַ֥תָּה (You have given) לְעַמְּךָ֖ (to Your people) לְנַחֲלָֽה׃ס (as an inheritance).

37 רָעָ֞ב (Famine) כִּֽי־ (when) יִהְיֶ֣ה (it is) בָאָ֗רֶץ (in the land), דֶּ֣בֶר (pestilence) כִּֽי־ (if) יִ֠הְיֶה (there is), שִׁדָּפ֨וֹן (blight), יֵרָק֜וֹן (mildew), אַרְבֶּ֤ה (locust), חָסִיל֙ (or grasshopper) כִּ֣י (if) יִהְיֶ֔ה (there is), כִּ֧י (when) יָֽצַר־ (besieges) ל֛וֹ (them) אֹיְב֖וֹ (their enemy) בְּאֶ֣רֶץ (in the land) שְׁעָרָ֑יו (of their cities)— כָּל־ (whatever) נֶ֖גַע (plague) כָּֽל־ (or whatever) מַחֲלָֽה׃ (sickness)— 38 כָּל־ (whatever) תְּפִלָּ֣ה (prayer), כָל־ (any) תְּחִנָּ֗ה (supplication), אֲשֶׁ֤ר (whatever) תִֽהְיֶה֙ (is made) לְכָל־ (by any) הָ֣אָדָ֔ם (man) לְכֹ֖ל (or by all) עַמְּךָ֣ (Your people) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (Israel) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (when) יֵדְע֗וּן (knows) אִ֚ישׁ (each one) נֶ֣גַע (the plague) לְבָב֔וֹ (of his own heart) וּפָרַ֥שׂ (and spreads out) כַּפָּ֖יו (his hands) אֶל־ (toward) הַבַּ֥יִת (house) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this), 39 וְ֠אַתָּה (and You) תִּשְׁמַ֨ע (may hear) הַשָּׁמַ֜יִם (in the heavens) מְכ֤וֹן (the fixed place) שִׁבְתֶּ֙ךָ֙ (of Your dwelling), וְסָלַחְתָּ֣ (and forgive) וְעָשִׂ֔יתָ (and act) וְנָתַתָּ֤ (and give) לָאִישׁ֙ (to each man) כְּכָל־ (according to all) דְּרָכָ֔יו (his ways), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (of whom) תֵּדַ֖ע (You know) אֶת־ (-) לְבָב֑וֹ (the heart). כִּֽי־ (For) אַתָּ֤ה (You) יָדַ֙עְתָּ֙ (know) לְבַדְּךָ֔ (alone) אֶת־ (-) לְבַ֖ב (the hearts) כָּל־ (of all) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) הָאָדָֽם׃ (of man), 40 לְמַ֙עַן֙ (that) יִֽרָא֔וּךָ (they may fear You) כָּל־ (all) הַ֨יָּמִ֔ים (the days) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) הֵ֥ם (they) חַיִּ֖ים (live) עַל־ (on) פְּנֵ֣י (the face) הָאֲדָמָ֑ה (of the land) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) נָתַ֖תָּה (You gave) לַאֲבֹתֵֽינוּ׃ (to our fathers).

41 וְגַם֙ (And also) אֶל־ (concerning) הַנָּכְרִ֔י (a foreigner) אֲשֶׁ֛ר (who) לֹא־ (not) מֵעַמְּךָ֥ (of Your people) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (Israel) ה֑וּא (is), וּבָ֛א (and he has come) מֵאֶ֥רֶץ (from a country) רְחוֹקָ֖ה (far) לְמַ֥עַן (for sake) שְׁמֶֽךָ׃ (of Your name)— 42 כִּ֤י (for) יִשְׁמְעוּן֙ (they will hear) אֶת־ (-) שִׁמְךָ֣ (of Your name) הַגָּד֔וֹל (great) וְאֶת־ (and) יָֽדְךָ֙ (Your hand) הַֽחֲזָקָ֔ה (mighty) וּֽזְרֹעֲךָ֖ (and Your arm) הַנְּטוּיָ֑ה (outstretched)— וּבָ֥א (and he comes) וְהִתְפַּלֵּ֖ל (and prays) אֶל־ (toward) הַבַּ֥יִת (house) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this), 43 אַתָּ֞ה (You) תִּשְׁמַ֤ע (may hear) הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ (in the heavens), מְכ֣וֹן (the fixed place) שִׁבְתֶּ֔ךָ (of Your dwelling), וְעָשִׂ֕יתָ (and do) כְּכֹ֛ל (according to all) אֲשֶׁר־ (for which) יִקְרָ֥א (calls) אֵלֶ֖יךָ (to You) הַנָּכְרִ֑י (the foreigner), לְמַ֣עַן (that) יֵדְעוּן֩ (may know) כָּל־ (all) עַמֵּ֨י (peoples) הָאָ֜רֶץ (of the earth) אֶת־ (-) שְׁמֶ֗ךָ (Your name) לְיִרְאָ֤ה (and fear) אֹֽתְךָ֙ (You) כְּעַמְּךָ֣ (as do Your people) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (Israel), וְלָדַ֕עַת (that they may know) כִּי־ (that) שִׁמְךָ֣ (Your name) נִקְרָ֔א (is called) עַל־ (by) הַבַּ֥יִת (house) הַזֶּ֖ה (this) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) בָּנִֽיתִי׃ (I have built),

44 כִּי־ (when) יֵצֵ֨א (go out) עַמְּךָ֤ (Your people) לַמִּלְחָמָה֙ (to battle) עַל־ (against) אֹ֣יְב֔וֹ (their enemy) בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ (in the way) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) תִּשְׁלָחֵ֑ם (You send them), וְהִתְפַּֽלְל֣וּ (and they pray) אֶל־ (to) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH) דֶּ֤רֶךְ (in the way) הָעִיר֙ (of the city) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) בָּחַ֣רְתָּ (You have chosen) בָּ֔הּ (in it) וְהַבַּ֖יִת (and the house) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) בָּנִ֥תִי (I have built) לִשְׁמֶֽךָ׃ (for Your name), 45 וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֙ (and may You hear) הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם (in the heavens) אֶת־ (-) תְּפִלָּתָ֖ם (their prayer) וְאֶת־ (and) תְּחִנָּתָ֑ם (their supplication), וְעָשִׂ֖יתָ (and maintain) מִשְׁפָּטָֽם׃ (their cause).

46 כִּ֣י (When) יֶֽחֶטְאוּ־ (they sin) לָ֗ךְ (against You), כִּ֣י (for) אֵ֤ין (there is no) אָדָם֙ (one) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who) לֹא־ (not) יֶחֱטָ֔א (does sin), וְאָנַפְתָּ֣ (and You become angry) בָ֔ם (with them) וּנְתַתָּ֖ם (and deliver them) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face of) אוֹיֵ֑ב (the enemy), וְשָׁב֤וּם (and they have taken captive) שֹֽׁבֵיהֶם֙ (their captivity) אֶל־ (to) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) הָאוֹיֵ֔ב (of the enemy) רְחוֹקָ֖ה (far) א֥וֹ (or) קְרוֹבָֽה׃ (near), 47 וְהֵשִׁ֙יבוּ֙ (and they have turned it back) אֶל־ (to) לִבָּ֔ם (their heart) בָּאָ֖רֶץ (in the land) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (where) נִשְׁבּוּ־ (they were carried captive) שָׁ֑ם (there), וְשָׁ֣בוּ׀ (and they turn back) וְהִֽתְחַנְּנ֣וּ (and make supplication) אֵלֶ֗יךָ (to You) בְּאֶ֤רֶץ (in the land) שֹֽׁבֵיהֶם֙ (of those who took them captive), לֵאמֹ֔ר (saying), חָטָ֥אנוּ (We have sinned) וְהֶעֱוִ֖ינוּ (and done wrong); רָשָֽׁעְנוּ׃ (we have acted wickedly). 48 וְשָׁ֣בוּ (And they return) אֵלֶ֗יךָ (to You) בְּכָל־ (with all) לְבָבָם֙ (their heart) וּבְכָל־ (and with all) נַפְשָׁ֔ם (their soul) בְּאֶ֥רֶץ (in the land) אֹיְבֵיהֶ֖ם (of their enemies) אֲשֶׁר־ (who) שָׁב֣וּ (led away captive) אֹתָ֑ם (them), וְהִֽתְפַּֽלְל֣וּ (and they pray) אֵלֶ֗יךָ (to You) דֶּ֤רֶךְ (toward) אַרְצָם֙ (their land) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) נָתַ֣תָּה (You gave) לַאֲבוֹתָ֔ם (to their fathers), הָעִיר֙ (the city) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) בָּחַ֔רְתָּ (You have chosen), וְהַבַּ֖יִת (and the house) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) בָּנִיתָ (I have built) לִשְׁמֶֽךָ׃ (for Your name), 49 וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֤ (and may You hear) הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ (in the heavens), מְכ֣וֹן (the fixed place) שִׁבְתְּךָ֔ (of Your dwelling), אֶת־ (-) תְּפִלָּתָ֖ם (their prayer) וְאֶת־ (and) תְּחִנָּתָ֑ם (their supplication) וְעָשִׂ֖יתָ (and may You do) מִשְׁפָּטָֽם׃ (their justice), 50 וְסָלַחְתָּ֤ (and forgive) לְעַמְּךָ֙ (Your people) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who) חָֽטְאוּ־ (have sinned) לָ֔ךְ (against You), וּלְכָל־ (and all) פִּשְׁעֵיהֶ֖ם (their transgressions) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) פָּשְׁעוּ־ (they have transgressed) בָ֑ךְ (against You), וּנְתַתָּ֧ם (and grant them) לְרַחֲמִ֛ים (compassion) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) שֹׁבֵיהֶ֖ם (those who took them captive), וְרִֽחֲמֽוּם׃ (that they may have compassion on them).

51 כִּֽי־ (For) עַמְּךָ֥ (Your people) וְנַחֲלָתְךָ֖ (and Your inheritance) הֵ֑ם (they are), אֲשֶׁ֤ר (whom) הוֹצֵ֙אתָ֙ (You brought) מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם (out of Egypt) מִתּ֖וֹךְ (out of the midst) כּ֥וּר (of the furnace) הַבַּרְזֶֽל׃ (of iron), 52 לִהְי֨וֹת (that may be) עֵינֶ֤יךָ (Your eyes) פְתֻחוֹת֙ (open) אֶל־ (to) תְּחִנַּ֣ת (the supplication) עַבְדְּךָ֔ (of Your servant) וְאֶל־ (and) תְּחִנַּ֖ת (the supplication) עַמְּךָ֣ (of Your people) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (Israel), לִשְׁמֹ֣עַ (to listen) אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם (to them) בְּכֹ֖ל (whenever) קָרְאָ֥ם (they call) אֵלֶֽיךָ׃ (to You). 53 כִּֽי־ (For) אַתָּ֞ה (You) הִבְדַּלְתָּ֤ם (have set them apart) לְךָ֙ (to Yourself) לְֽנַחֲלָ֔ה (as an inheritance) מִכֹּ֖ל (from among all) עַמֵּ֣י (the peoples) הָאָ֑רֶץ (of the earth), כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר (as) דִּבַּ֜רְתָּ (You spoke) בְּיַ֣ד׀ (by) מֹשֶׁ֣ה (Moses) עַבְדֶּ֗ךָ (Your servant) בְּהוֹצִיאֲךָ֧ (when You brought) אֶת־ (-) אֲבֹתֵ֛ינוּ (our fathers) מִמִּצְרַ֖יִם (out of Egypt), אֲדֹנָ֥י (O Lord) יְהוִֽה׃פ (YHWH).

Solomon’s Benediction

54 וַיְהִ֣י׀ (And so it was), כְּכַלּ֣וֹת (when had finished) שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה (Solomon) לְהִתְפַּלֵּל֙ (praying) אֶל־ (to) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) אֵ֛ת (-) כָּל־ (all) הַתְּפִלָּ֥ה (the prayer) וְהַתְּחִנָּ֖ה (and supplication) הַזֹּ֑את (this), קָ֞ם (that he arose) מִלִּפְנֵ֨י (from before) מִזְבַּ֤ח (the altar) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH), מִכְּרֹ֣עַ (from kneeling) עַל־ (on) בִּרְכָּ֔יו (his knees) וְכַפָּ֖יו (and with his hands) פְּרֻשׂ֥וֹת (spread up) הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃ (to the heavens), 55 וַֽיַּעְמֹ֕ד (and he stood) וַיְבָ֕רֶךְ (and blessed) אֵ֖ת (-) כָּל־ (all) קְהַ֣ל (the assembly) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel) ק֥וֹל (with a voice) גָּד֖וֹל (loud), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying):

56 בָּר֣וּךְ (Blessed be) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) נָתַ֤ן (has given) מְנוּחָה֙ (rest) לְעַמּ֣וֹ (to His people) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (Israel), כְּכֹ֖ל (according to all) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) דִּבֵּ֑ר (He promised); לֹֽא־ (not) נָפַ֞ל (has fallen) דָּבָ֣ר (word) אֶחָ֗ד (one) מִכֹּל֙ (of all) דְּבָר֣וֹ (His promise) הַטּ֔וֹב (good) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) דִּבֶּ֔ר (He promised) בְּיַ֖ד (by the hand of) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses) עַבְדּֽוֹ׃ (His servant).

57 יְהִ֨י (May be) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ (our God) עִמָּ֔נוּ (with us) כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר (as) הָיָ֖ה (He was) עִם־ (with) אֲבֹתֵ֑ינוּ (our fathers); אַל־ (not) יַעַזְבֵ֖נוּ (may He leave us) וְאַֽל־ (and not) יִטְּשֵֽׁנוּ׃ (forsake us), 58 לְהַטּ֥וֹת (that He may incline) לְבָבֵ֖נוּ (our hearts) אֵלָ֑יו (to Himself) לָלֶ֣כֶת (to walk) בְּכָל־ (in all) דְּרָכָ֗יו (His ways), וְלִשְׁמֹ֨ר (and to keep) מִצְוֺתָ֤יו (His commandments) וְחֻקָּיו֙ (and His statutes) וּמִשְׁפָּטָ֔יו (and His ordinances) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) צִוָּ֖ה (He commanded) אֶת־ (-) אֲבֹתֵֽינוּ׃ (our fathers).

59 וְיִֽהְי֨וּ (And may) דְבָרַ֜י (my words) אֵ֗לֶּה (these), אֲשֶׁ֤ר (with which) הִתְחַנַּ֙נְתִּי֙ (I have made supplication) לִפְנֵ֣י (before the face of) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH), קְרֹבִ֛ים (be near) אֶל־ (unto) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ (our God) יוֹמָ֣ם (day) וָלָ֑יְלָה (and night), לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת׀ (that He may maintain) מִשְׁפַּ֣ט (the cause) עַבְדּ֗וֹ (of His servant) וּמִשְׁפַּ֛ט (and the cause) עַמּ֥וֹ (of His people) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (Israel), דְּבַר־ (the word) י֥וֹם (of a day) בְּיוֹמֽוֹ׃ (in its day), 60 לְמַ֗עַן (that) דַּ֚עַת (may know) כָּל־ (all) עַמֵּ֣י (the peoples) הָאָ֔רֶץ (of the earth) כִּ֥י (that) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) ה֣וּא (is) הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים (God); אֵ֖ין (there is no) עֽוֹד׃ (other).

61 וְהָיָ֤ה (And let be) לְבַבְכֶם֙ (your⁺ heart) שָׁלֵ֔ם (complete) עִ֖ם (to) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ (our God), לָלֶ֧כֶת (to walk) בְּחֻקָּ֛יו (in His statutes) וְלִשְׁמֹ֥ר (and keep) מִצְוֺתָ֖יו (His commandments), כַּיּ֥וֹם (as at day) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this).

62 וְֽהַמֶּ֔לֶךְ (And the king) וְכָל־ (and all) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (Israel) עִמּ֑וֹ (with him) זֹבְחִ֥ים (offered) זֶ֖בַח (sacrifices) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face of) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH). 63 וַיִּזְבַּ֣ח (And offered) שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה (Solomon) אֵ֣ת (-) זֶ֣בַח (a sacrifice) הַשְּׁלָמִים֮ (of peace offerings) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) זָבַ֣ח (he offered) לַיהוָה֒ (to YHWH), בָּקָ֗ר (bulls) עֶשְׂרִ֤ים (twenty) וּשְׁנַ֙יִם֙ (and two) אֶ֔לֶף (thousand), וְצֹ֕אן (and sheep) מֵאָ֥ה (a hundred) וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים (and twenty) אָ֑לֶף (thousand). וַֽיַּחְנְכוּ֙ (And dedicated) אֶת־ (-) בֵּ֣ית (the house) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ (the king) וְכָל־ (and all) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel).

64 בַּיּ֣וֹם (On day) הַה֗וּא (that) קִדַּ֨שׁ (consecrated) הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ (the king) אֶת־ (-) תּ֣וֹךְ (the middle) הֶחָצֵ֗ר (of the court) אֲשֶׁר֙ (that was) לִפְנֵ֣י (in front) בֵית־ (of the house) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), כִּי־ (for) עָ֣שָׂה (he offered) שָׁ֗ם (there) אֶת־ (-) הָֽעֹלָה֙ (the burnt offerings) וְאֶת־ (and) הַמִּנְחָ֔ה (the grain offerings) וְאֵ֖ת (and) חֶלְבֵ֣י (the fat) הַשְּׁלָמִ֑ים (of the peace offerings), כִּֽי־ (because) מִזְבַּ֤ח (altar) הַנְּחֹ֙שֶׁת֙ (the bronze) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that was) לִפְנֵ֣י (before) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) קָטֹ֗ן (was too small) מֵֽהָכִיל֙ (to receive) אֶת־ (-) הָעֹלָ֣ה (the burnt offerings) וְאֶת־ (and) הַמִּנְחָ֔ה (the grain offerings) וְאֵ֖ת (and) חֶלְבֵ֥י (the fat) הַשְּׁלָמִֽים׃ (of the peace offerings).

65 וַיַּ֣עַשׂ (And made) שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה (Solomon) בָֽעֵת־ (at the time) הַהִ֣יא׀ (that) אֶת־ (-) הֶחָ֡ג (a feast), וְכָל־ (and all) יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל (Israel) עִמּוֹ֩ (with him)— קָהָ֨ל (an assembly) גָּד֜וֹל (great)— מִלְּב֥וֹא (from the entrance) חֲמָ֣ת׀ (of Hamath) עַד־ (to) נַ֣חַל (the Brook) מִצְרַ֗יִם (of Egypt), לִפְנֵי֙ (before the face of) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ (our God), שִׁבְעַ֥ת (seven) יָמִ֖ים (days) וְשִׁבְעַ֣ת (and seven) יָמִ֑ים (days)— אַרְבָּעָ֥ה (four) עָשָׂ֖ר (and ten) יֽוֹם׃ (days).

66 בַּיּ֤וֹם (On the day) הַשְּׁמִינִי֙ (eighth) שִׁלַּ֣ח (he sent away) אֶת־ (-) הָעָ֔ם (the people) וַֽיְבָרֲכ֖וּ (and they blessed) אֶת־ (-) הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ (the king) וַיֵּלְכ֣וּ (and went) לְאָהֳלֵיהֶ֗ם (to their tents), שְׂמֵחִים֙ (joyful) וְט֣וֹבֵי (and glad) לֵ֔ב (of heart) עַ֣ל (for) כָּל־ (all) הַטּוֹבָ֗ה (the good) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) עָשָׂ֤ה (had done) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) לְדָוִ֣ד (for David) עַבְדּ֔וֹ (His servant) וּלְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (and for Israel) עַמּֽוֹ׃ (His people).
