44 Ὁμοία ἐστὶν βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν θησαυρῷ κεκρυμμένῳ ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ ὃν εὑρὼν ἄνθρωπος ἔκρυψεν καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς χαρᾶς αὐτοῦ ὑπάγει καὶ πωλεῖ ‹πάντα› ὅσα ἔχει καὶ ἀγοράζει τὸν ἀγρὸν ἐκεῖνον “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
45 Πάλιν ὁμοία ἐστὶν βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν ‹ἀνθρώπῳ› ἐμπόρῳ ζητοῦντι καλοὺς μαργαρίτας “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.
46 εὑρὼν δὲ ἕνα πολύτιμον μαργαρίτην ἀπελθὼν πέπρακεν πάντα ὅσα εἶχεν καὶ ἠγόρασεν αὐτόν who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
47 Πάλιν ὁμοία ἐστὶν βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν σαγήνῃ βληθείσῃ εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ ἐκ παντὸς γένους συναγαγούσῃ “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish.
48 ἣν ὅτε ἐπληρώθη ἀναβιβάσαντες ἐπὶ τὸν αἰγιαλὸν καὶ καθίσαντες συνέλεξαν τὰ καλὰ εἰς ἄγγη τὰ δὲ σαπρὰ ἔξω ἔβαλον When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away.
49 Οὕτως ἔσται ἐν τῇ συντελείᾳ τοῦ αἰῶνος ἐξελεύσονται οἱ ἄγγελοι καὶ ἀφοριοῦσιν τοὺς πονηροὺς ἐκ μέσου τῶν δικαίων So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous
50 καὶ βαλοῦσιν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν κάμινον τοῦ πυρός ἐκεῖ ἔσται κλαυθμὸς καὶ βρυγμὸς τῶν ὀδόντων and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
51 Συνήκατε ταῦτα πάντα Λέγουσιν αὐτῷ Ναί “Have you understood all these things?” They said to him, “Yes.” “Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked. “Yes,” they replied.
52 δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Διὰ τοῦτο πᾶς γραμματεὺς μαθητευθεὶς τῇ βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν ὅμοιός ἐστιν ἀνθρώπῳ οἰκοδεσπότῃ ὅστις ἐκβάλλει ἐκ τοῦ θησαυροῦ αὐτοῦ καινὰ καὶ παλαιά And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.” He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”
53 Καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐτέλεσεν Ἰησοῦς τὰς παραβολὰς ταύτας μετῆρεν ἐκεῖθεν And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there.
54 καὶ ἐλθὼν εἰς τὴν πατρίδα αὐτοῦ ἐδίδασκεν αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ αὐτῶν ὥστε ἐκπλήσσεσθαι αὐτοὺς καὶ λέγειν Πόθεν τούτῳ σοφία αὕτη καὶ αἱ δυνάμεις and coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked.
55 οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν τοῦ τέκτονος υἱός οὐχ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ λέγεται Μαριὰμ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ Ἰάκωβος καὶ Ἰωσὴφ καὶ Σίμων καὶ Ἰούδας Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?
56 καὶ αἱ ἀδελφαὶ αὐτοῦ οὐχὶ πᾶσαι πρὸς ἡμᾶς εἰσιν πόθεν οὖν τούτῳ ταῦτα πάντα And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?”
57 καὶ ἐσκανδαλίζοντο ἐν αὐτῷ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Οὐκ ἔστιν προφήτης ἄτιμος εἰ μὴ ἐν τῇ πατρίδι καὶ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ αὐτοῦ And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”
58 καὶ οὐκ ἐποίησεν ἐκεῖ δυνάμεις πολλὰς διὰ τὴν ἀπιστίαν αὐτῶν And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief. And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
