2	“Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations;	“Son of man, make known to Jerusalem her abominations,	“Son of man, confront Jerusalem with her detestable practices
3	and say, ‘The Lord Yahweh says to Jerusalem: “Your origin and your birth is of the land of the Canaanite. An Amorite was your father, and your mother was a Hittite.	and say, Thus says the Lord GOD to Jerusalem: Your origin and your birth are of the land of the Canaanites; your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite.	and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says to Jerusalem: Your ancestry and birth were in the land of the Canaanites; your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite.
4	As for your birth, in the day you were born your navel was not cut. You weren’t washed in water to cleanse you. You weren’t salted at all, nor wrapped in blankets at all.	And as for your birth, on the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to cleanse you, nor rubbed with salt, nor wrapped in swaddling cloths.	On the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to make you clean, nor were you rubbed with salt or wrapped in cloths.
5	No eye pitied you, to do any of these things to you, to have compassion on you; but you were cast out in the open field, because you were abhorred in the day that you were born. No one looked on you with pity or had compassion enough to do any of these things for you. Rather, you were thrown out into the open field, for on the day you were born you were despised.
6	“‘“When I passed by you, and saw you wallowing in your blood, I said to you, ‘Though you are in your blood, live!’ Yes, I said to you, ‘Though you are in your blood, live!’	“And when I passed by you and saw you wallowing in your blood, I said to you in your blood, ‘Live!’ I said to you in your blood, ‘Live!’	“’Then I passed by and saw you kicking about in your blood, and as you lay there in your blood I said to you, “Live!”
7	I caused you to multiply as that which grows in the field, and you increased and grew great, and you attained to excellent beauty. Your breasts were formed, and your hair grew; yet you were naked and bare.	I made you flourish like a plant of the field. And you grew up and became tall and arrived at full adornment. Your breasts were formed, and your hair had grown; yet you were naked and bare.	I made you grow like a plant of the field. You grew and developed and entered puberty. Your breasts had formed and your hair had grown, yet you were stark naked.
8	“‘“Now when I passed by you, and looked at you, behold, your time was the time of love; and I spread my garment over you and covered your nakedness. Yes, I pledged myself to you and entered into a covenant with you,” says the Lord Yahweh, “and you became mine.	“When I passed by you again and saw you, behold, you were at the age for love, and I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness; I made my vow to you and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Lord GOD, and you became mine.	“’Later I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your naked body. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign LORD, and you became mine.
9	“‘“Then I washed you with water. Yes, I thoroughly washed away your blood from you, and I anointed you with oil.	Then I bathed you with water and washed off your blood from you and anointed you with oil.	“’I bathed you with water and washed the blood from you and put ointments on you.
10	I clothed you also with embroidered work and put leather sandals on you. I dressed you with fine linen and covered you with silk.	I clothed you also with embroidered cloth and shod you with fine leather. I wrapped you in fine linen and covered you with silk.	I clothed you with an embroidered dress and put sandals of fine leather on you. I dressed you in fine linen and covered you with costly garments.
11	I decked you with ornaments, put bracelets on your hands, and put a chain on your neck.	And I adorned you with ornaments and put bracelets on your wrists and a chain on your neck.	I adorned you with jewelry: I put bracelets on your arms and a necklace around your neck,
12	I put a ring on your nose, earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head.	And I put a ring on your nose and earrings in your ears and a beautiful crown on your head.	and I put a ring on your nose, earrings on your ears and a beautiful crown on your head.
13	Thus you were decked with gold and silver. Your clothing was of fine linen, silk, and embroidered work. You ate fine flour, honey, and oil. You were exceedingly beautiful, and you prospered to royal estate.	Thus you were adorned with gold and silver, and your clothing was of fine linen and silk and embroidered cloth. You ate fine flour and honey and oil. You grew exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty.	So you were adorned with gold and silver; your clothes were of fine linen and costly fabric and embroidered cloth. Your food was honey, olive oil and the finest flour. You became very beautiful and rose to be a queen.
14	Your renown went out among the nations for your beauty; for it was perfect, through my majesty which I had put on you,” says the Lord Yahweh.	And your renown went forth among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect through the splendor that I had bestowed on you, declares the Lord GOD.	And your fame spread among the nations on account of your beauty, because the splendor I had given you made your beauty perfect, declares the Sovereign LORD.
15	“‘“But you trusted in your beauty, and played the prostitute because of your renown, and poured out your prostitution on everyone who passed by. It was his.	“But you trusted in your beauty and played the whore because of your renown and lavished your whorings on any passerby; your beauty became his.	“’But you trusted in your beauty and used your fame to become a prostitute. You lavished your favors on anyone who passed by and your beauty became his.
16	You took some of your garments, and made for yourselves high places decked with various colors, and played the prostitute on them. This shouldn’t happen, neither shall it be.	You took some of your garments and made for yourself colorful shrines, and on them played the whore. The like has never been, nor ever shall be.	You took some of your garments to make gaudy high places, where you carried on your prostitution. You went to him, and he possessed your beauty.
17	You also took your beautiful jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself images of men, and played the prostitute with them. 19	My bread also which I gave you, fine flour, oil, and honey, with which I fed you, you even set it before them for a pleasant aroma; and so it was,” says the Lord Yahweh.	Also my bread that I gave you—I fed you with fine flour and oil and honey—you set before them for a pleasing aroma; and so it was, declares the Lord GOD.	Also the food I provided for you—the flour, olive oil and honey I gave you to eat—you offered as fragrant incense before them. That is what happened, declares the Sovereign LORD.
20	“‘“Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to me, and you have sacrificed these to them to be devoured. Was your prostitution a small matter,	And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and these you sacrificed to them to be devoured. Were your whorings so small a matter	“’And you took your sons and daughters whom you bore to me and sacrificed them as food to the idols. Was your prostitution not enough?
21	that you have slain my children and delivered them up, in causing them to pass through the fire to them?	that you slaughtered my children and delivered them up as an offering by fire to them?	You slaughtered my children and sacrificed them to the idols.
22	In all your abominations and your prostitution you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, and were wallowing in your blood.	And in all your abominations and your whorings you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, wallowing in your blood.	In all your detestable practices and your prostitution you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, kicking about in your blood.
23	“‘“It has happened after all your wickedness—woe, woe to you!” says the Lord Yahweh—	“And after all your wickedness (woe, woe to you! declares the Lord GOD ),	“’Woe! Woe to you, declares the Sovereign LORD. In addition to all your other wickedness,
24	“that you have built for yourselves a vaulted place, and have made yourselves a lofty place in every street.	you built yourself a vaulted chamber and made yourself a lofty place in every square.	you built a mound for yourself and made a lofty shrine in every public square.
25	You have built your lofty place at the head of every way, and have made your beauty an abomination, and have opened your feet to everyone who passed by, and multiplied your prostitution.	At the head of every street you built your lofty place and made your beauty an abomination, offering yourself to any passerby and multiplying your whoring.	At every street corner you built your lofty shrines and degraded your beauty, spreading your legs with increasing promiscuity to anyone who passed by.
26	You have also committed sexual immorality with the Egyptians, your neighbors, great of flesh; and have multiplied your prostitution, to provoke me to anger.	You also played the whore with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, multiplying your whoring, to provoke me to anger.	You engaged in prostitution with the Egyptians, your neighbors with large genitals, and aroused my anger with your increasing promiscuity.
27	See therefore, I have stretched out my hand over you, and have diminished your portion, and delivered you to the will of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your lewd way.	Behold, therefore, I stretched out my hand against you and diminished your allotted portion and delivered you to the greed of your enemies, the daughters of the Philistines, who were ashamed of your lewd behavior.	So I stretched out my hand against you and reduced your territory; I gave you over to the greed of your enemies, the daughters of the Philistines, who were shocked by your lewd conduct.
28	You have played the prostitute also with the Assyrians, because you were insatiable; yes, you have played the prostitute with them, and yet you weren’t satisfied.	You played the whore also with the Assyrians, because you were not satisfied; yes, you played the whore with them, and still you were not satisfied.	You engaged in prostitution with the Assyrians too, because you were insatiable; and even after that, you still were not satisfied.
29	You have moreover multiplied your prostitution to the land of merchants, to Chaldea; and yet you weren’t satisfied with this.	You multiplied your whoring also with the trading land of Chaldea, and even with this you were not satisfied.	Then you increased your promiscuity to include Babylonia, a land of merchants, but even with this you were not satisfied.
30	“‘“How weak is your heart,” says the Lord Yahweh, “since you do all these things, the work of an impudent prostitute;	“How sick is your heart, declares the Lord GOD, because you did all these things, the deeds of a brazen prostitute,	“’I am filled with fury against you, declares the Sovereign LORD, when you do all these things, acting like a brazen prostitute!
31	in that you build your vaulted place at the head of every way, and make your lofty place in every street, and have not been as a prostitute, in that you scorn pay.	building your vaulted chamber at the head of every street, and making your lofty place in every square. Yet you were not like a prostitute, because you scorned payment.	When you built your mounds at every street corner and made your lofty shrines in every public square, you were unlike a prostitute, because you scorned payment.
32	“‘“Adulterous wife, who takes strangers instead of her husband!	Adulterous wife, who receives strangers instead of her husband!	“’You adulterous wife! You prefer strangers to your own husband!
33	People give gifts to all prostitutes; but you give your gifts to all your lovers, and bribe them, that they may come to you on every side for your prostitution.	Men give gifts to all prostitutes, but you gave your gifts to all your lovers, bribing them to come to you from every side with your whorings.	All prostitutes receive gifts, but you give gifts to all your lovers, bribing them to come to you from everywhere for your illicit favors.
34	You are different from other women in your prostitution, in that no one follows you to play the prostitute; and whereas you give hire, and no hire is given to you, therefore you are different.”’	So you were different from other women in your whorings. No one solicited you to play the whore, and you gave payment, while no payment was given to you; therefore you were different.	So in your prostitution you are the opposite of others; no one runs after you for your favors. You are the very opposite, for you give payment and none is given to you.
35	“Therefore, prostitute, hear Yahweh’s word:	“Therefore, O prostitute, hear the word of the LORD:	“’Therefore, you prostitute, hear the word of the LORD!
36	‘The Lord Yahweh says, “Because your filthiness was poured out, and your nakedness uncovered through your prostitution with your lovers; and because of all the idols of your abominations, and for the blood of your children, that you gave to them;	Thus says the Lord GOD, Because your lust was poured out and your nakedness uncovered in your whorings with your lovers, and with all your abominable idols, and because of the blood of your children that you gave to them,	This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because you poured out your lust and exposed your naked body in your promiscuity with your lovers, and because of all your detestable idols, and because you gave them your children’s blood,
37	therefore see, I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have taken pleasure, and all those whom you have loved, with all those whom you have hated. I will even gather them against you on every side, and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness.	therefore, behold, I will gather all your lovers with whom you took pleasure, all those you loved and all those you hated. I will gather them against you from every side and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness.	therefore I am going to gather all your lovers, with whom you found pleasure, those you loved as well as those you hated. I will gather them against you from all around and will strip you in front of them, and they will see you stark naked.
38	I will judge you as women who break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will bring on you the blood of wrath and jealousy.	And I will judge you as women who commit adultery and shed blood are judged, and bring upon you the blood of wrath and jealousy.	I will sentence you to the punishment of women who commit adultery and who shed blood; I will bring on you the blood vengeance of my wrath and jealous anger.
39	I will also give you into their hand, and they will throw down your vaulted place, and break down your lofty places. They will strip you of your clothes and take your beautiful jewels. They will leave you naked and bare.	And I will give you into their hands, and they shall throw down your vaulted chamber and break down your lofty places. They shall strip you of your clothes and take your beautiful jewels and leave you naked and bare.	Then I will deliver you into the hands of your lovers, and they will tear down your mounds and destroy your lofty shrines. They will strip you of your clothes and take your fine jewelry and leave you stark naked.
40	They will also bring up a company against you, and they will stone you with stones, and thrust you through with their swords.	They shall bring up a crowd against you, and they shall stone you and cut you to pieces with their swords.	They will bring a mob against you, who will stone you and hack you to pieces with their swords.
41	They will burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women. I will cause you to cease from playing the prostitute, and you will also give no hire any more.	And they shall burn your houses and execute judgments upon you in the sight of many women. I will make you stop playing the whore, and you shall also give payment no more.	They will burn down your houses and inflict punishment on you in the sight of many women. I will put a stop to your prostitution, and you will no longer pay your lovers.
42	So I will cause my wrath toward you to rest, and my jealousy will depart from you. I will be quiet, and will not be angry any more.	So will I satisfy my wrath on you, and my jealousy shall depart from you. I will be calm and will no more be angry.	Then my wrath against you will subside and my jealous anger will turn away from you; I will be calm and no longer angry.
43	“‘“Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have raged against me in all these things; therefore, behold, I also will bring your way on your head,” says the Lord Yahweh: “and you shall not commit this lewdness with all your abominations.	Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have enraged me with all these things, therefore, behold, I have returned your deeds upon your head, declares the Lord GOD. Have you not committed lewdness in addition to all your abominations?	“’Because you did not remember the days of your youth but enraged me with all these things, I will surely bring down on your head what you have done, declares the Sovereign LORD. Did you not add lewdness to all your other detestable practices?
44	“‘“Behold, everyone who uses proverbs will use this proverb against you, saying, ‘As is the mother, so is her daughter.’	“Behold, everyone who uses proverbs will use this proverb about you: ‘Like mother, like daughter.’	“’Everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb about you: “Like mother, like daughter.”
45	You are the daughter of your mother, who loathes her husband and her children; and you are the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite.	You are the daughter of your mother, who loathed her husband and her children; and you are the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite.	You are a true daughter of your mother, who despised her husband and her children; and you are a true sister of your sisters, who despised their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite.
46	Your elder sister is Samaria, who dwells at your left hand, she and her daughters; and your younger sister, who dwells at your right hand, is Sodom with her daughters.	And your elder sister is Samaria, who lived with her daughters to the north of you; and your younger sister, who lived to the south of you, is Sodom with her daughters.	Your older sister was Samaria, who lived to the north of you with her daughters; and your younger sister, who lived to the south of you with her daughters, was Sodom.
47	Yet you have not walked in their ways, nor done their abominations; but soon you were more corrupt than they in all your ways.	Not only did you walk in their ways and do according to their abominations; within a very little time you were more corrupt than they in all your ways.	You not only followed their ways and copied their detestable practices, but in all your ways you soon became more depraved than they.
48	As I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “Sodom your sister has not done, she nor her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters.	As I live, declares the Lord GOD, your sister Sodom and her daughters have not done as you and your daughters have done.	As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, your sister Sodom and her daughters never did what you and your daughters have done.
49	“‘“Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: pride, fullness of bread, and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters. She also didn’t strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.	Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.	“’Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
50	They were arrogant and committed abomination before me. Therefore I took them away when I saw it.	They were haughty and did an abomination before me. So I removed them, when I saw it.	They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.
51	Samaria hasn’t committed half of your sins; but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters by all your abominations which you have done.	Samaria has not committed half your sins. You have committed more abominations than they, and have made your sisters appear righteous by all the abominations that you have committed.	Samaria did not commit half the sins you did. You have done more detestable things than they, and have made your sisters seem righteous by all these things you have done.
52	You also bear your own shame yourself, in that you have given judgment for your sisters; through your sins that you have committed more abominable than they, they are more righteous than you. Yes, be also confounded, and bear your shame, in that you have justified your sisters.	Bear your disgrace, you also, for you have intervened on behalf of your sisters. Because of your sins in which you acted more abominably than they, they are more in the right than you. So be ashamed, you also, and bear your disgrace, for you have made your sisters appear righteous.	Bear your disgrace, for you have furnished some justification for your sisters. Because your sins were more vile than theirs, they appear more righteous than you. So then, be ashamed and bear your disgrace, for you have made your sisters appear righteous.
53	“‘“I will reverse their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, and the captivity of your captives among them;	“I will restore their fortunes, both the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters, and the fortunes of Samaria and her daughters, and I will restore your own fortunes in their midst,	“’However, I will restore the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters and of Samaria and her daughters, and your fortunes along with them,
54	that you may bear your own shame, and may be ashamed because of all that you have done, in that you are a comfort to them.	that you may bear your disgrace and be ashamed of all that you have done, becoming a consolation to them.	so that you may bear your disgrace and be ashamed of all you have done in giving them comfort.
55	Your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, will return to their former estate; and Samaria and her daughters will return to their former estate; and you and your daughters will return to your former estate.	As for your sisters, Sodom and her daughters shall return to their former state, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former state, and you and your daughters shall return to your former state.	And your sisters, Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, will return to what they were before; and you and your daughters will return to what you were before.
56	For your sister Sodom was not mentioned by your mouth in the day of your pride,	Was not your sister Sodom a byword in your mouth in the day of your pride,	You would not even mention your sister Sodom in the day of your pride,
57	before your wickedness was uncovered, as at the time of the reproach of the daughters of Syria, and of all who are around her, the daughters of the Philistines, who despise you all around.	before your wickedness was uncovered? Now you have become an object of reproach for the daughters of Syria and all those around her, and for the daughters of the Philistines, those all around who despise you.	before your wickedness was uncovered. Even so, you are now scorned by the daughters of Edom and all her neighbors and the daughters of the Philistines—all those around you who despise you.
58	You have borne your lewdness and your abominations,” says Yahweh.	You bear the penalty of your lewdness and your abominations, declares the LORD.	You will bear the consequences of your lewdness and your detestable practices, declares the LORD.
59	“‘For the Lord Yahweh says: “I will also deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant.	“For thus says the Lord GOD: I will deal with you as you have done, you who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant,	“’This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will deal with you as you deserve, because you have despised my oath by breaking the covenant.
60	Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you.	yet I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish for you an everlasting covenant.	Yet I will remember the covenant I made with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you.
61	Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your sisters, your elder sisters and your younger; and I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant.	Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you take your sisters, both your elder and your younger, and I give them to you as daughters, but not on account of the covenant with you.	Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your sisters, both those who are older than you and those who are younger. I will give them to you as daughters, but not on the basis of my covenant with you.
62	I will establish my covenant with you. Then you will know that I am Yahweh;	I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall know that I am the LORD,	So I will establish my covenant with you, and you will know that I am the LORD.
63	that you may remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any more because of your shame, when I have forgiven you all that you have done,” says the Lord Yahweh.’”	that you may remember and be confounded, and never open your mouth again because of your shame, when I atone for you for all that you have done, declares the Lord GOD.”	Then, when I make atonement for you for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed and never again open your mouth because of your humiliation, declares the Sovereign LORD.’”
