How long, O men, will my honor be maligned?

Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for Himself;

The LORD distinguishes those who belong to Him from those who oppose His rule. The godly are His covenant people, marked by faithful devotion and reserved for His purposes. David grounds his confidence not in his own strength or reputation, but in the LORD’s sovereign claim upon those who walk with Him.

Lev 20:26 You are to be holy to Me because I, the LORD, am holy,…
Mal 3:17 They will be Mine,” says the LORD of Hosts…

Because David belongs to the LORD, he is certain that his cry is not ignored. In the midst of slander, pressure, and opposition, God remains attentive to the prayers of His faithful servants and acts according to His purposes.

Be angry, yet do not sin;

Anger may arise in the face of evil, injustice, or personal injury, but it must not become rebellion, revenge, or harmful speech. God requires restraint even when emotions are strong.

Eph 4:26-27 “Be angry, yet do not sin.” Do not let the sun set…
Jas 1:19-20 My beloved brothers, understand this: Be quick to listen…
Pro 29:11 A fool vents all his anger, but a wise man holds it back.

Offer the sacrifices of the righteous

God required sacrifices to be offered according to His law and with sincere obedience. Ritual without a faithful heart was unacceptable. Righteous offerings reflected a life submitted to God rather than an attempt to gain His favor through outward acts alone.

Many ask, “Who can show us the good?”

David contrasts the restless search for worldly security and prosperity with confidence in God. In times of uncertainty, many looked to human rulers, wealth, military strength, or religious signs for assurance. The question reflects a common human longing for guidance and understanding of what is truly beneficial or righteous, exposing the desire for visible benefits while overlooking the true source of all good.

Jol 2:24 The threshing floors will be full of grain…
Pro 3:10 then your barns will be filled with plenty…

I will lie down and sleep in peace,

Job 11:18-19 You will be secure, because there is hope…
Psa 3:5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, for the LORD sustains…

for You alone, O LORD,
