Thus says YHWH: “Behold, I am rousing against Babylon, and against those dwelling in Leb-Kamai, a destroying spirit. Thus says the LORD: “Behold, I will stir up the spirit of a destroyer against Babylon, against the inhabitants of Leb-kamai, This is what the LORD says: “See, I will stir up the spirit of a destroyer against Babylon and the people of Leb Kamai.
And I will send to Babylon winnowers, and they will winnow her, and will empty her land; for they will be against her all around on the day of evil. and I will send to Babylon winnowers, and they shall winnow her, and they shall empty her land, when they come against her from every side on the day of trouble. I will send foreigners to Babylon to winnow her and to devastate her land; they will oppose her on every side in the day of her disaster.
Do not let bend the one bending his bow, and let him not bring himself up in his armor; do not spare toward her young men, devote to destruction all of her army! Let not the archer bend his bow, and let him not stand up in his armor. Spare not her young men; devote to destruction all her army. Let not the archer string his bow, nor let him put on his armor. Do not spare her young men; completely destroy her army.
And the slain will fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and the pierced in her streets. They shall fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and wounded in her streets. They will fall down slain in Babylon, fatally wounded in her streets.
For Israel has not been forsaken—and Judah—by their God, by YHWH of Hosts, though their land had been filled with guilt before the Holy One of Israel.” For Israel and Judah have not been forsaken by their God, the LORD of hosts, but the land of the Chaldeans is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel. For Israel and Judah have not been forsaken by their God, the LORD Almighty, though their land is full of guilt before the Holy One of Israel.
Flee from the midst of Babylon, and let each man save his soul! Do not be cut off in her iniquity; for it is a time of vengeance for YHWH, a recompense He will complete for her! “Flee from the midst of Babylon; let every one save his life! Be not cut off in her punishment, for this is the time of the LORD’s vengeance, the repayment he is rendering her. “Flee from Babylon! Run for your lives! Do not be destroyed because of her sins. It is time for the LORD’s vengeance; he will repay her what she deserves.
Babylon was a cup of gold in the hand of YHWH, making drunk all the earth; from her wine the nations drank; upon thus the nations are deranged. Babylon was a golden cup in the LORD’s hand, making all the earth drunken; the nations drank of her wine; therefore the nations went mad. Babylon was a gold cup in the LORD’s hand; she made the whole earth drunk. The nations drank her wine; therefore they have now gone mad.
Suddenly Babylon has fallen and has been shattered! Wail over her, and take balm for her pain; perhaps she can be healed. Suddenly Babylon has fallen and been broken; wail for her! Take balm for her pain; perhaps she may be healed. Babylon will suddenly fall and be broken. Wail over her! Get balm for her pain; perhaps she can be healed.
“We would have healed Babylon, and she was not healed; leave her, and let us go, each man to his land, for her judgment reaches to the heavens, and it is lifted up even to the clouds!” We would have healed Babylon, but she was not healed. Forsake her, and let us go each to his own country, for her judgment has reached up to heaven and has been lifted up even to the skies. “’We would have healed Babylon, but she cannot be healed; let us leave her and each go to our own land, for her judgment reaches to the skies, it rises as high as the heavens.’
“YHWH has brought forth our righteousness; come, and let us declare in Zion the work of YHWH our God.” The LORD has brought about our vindication; come, let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God. “’The LORD has vindicated us; come, let us tell in Zion what the LORD our God has done.’
Make bright the arrows! Fill the quivers! YHWH has roused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because His plan is against Babylon to destroy her. For it is the vengeance of YHWH, vengeance for His temple. “Sharpen the arrows! Take up the shields! The LORD has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because his purpose concerning Babylon is to destroy it, for that is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance for his temple. “Sharpen the arrows, take up the shields! The LORD has stirred up the kings of the Medes, because his purpose is to destroy Babylon. The LORD will take vengeance, vengeance for his temple.
Set up the standard against the walls of Babylon! Make strong the guard, make stand the watchmen, prepare those laying ambush! For YHWH has both planned and done that which He spoke against those dwelling in Babylon. “Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon; make the watch strong; set up watchmen; prepare the ambushes; for the LORD has both planned and done what he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon. Lift up a banner against the walls of Babylon! Reinforce the guard, station the watchmen, prepare an ambush! The LORD will carry out his purpose, his decree against the people of Babylon.
O dweller by many waters, abundant in treasures, your end has come, the measure of your dishonest gain! O you who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures, your end has come; the thread of your life is cut. You who live by many waters and are rich in treasures, your end has come, the time for you to be destroyed.
YHWH of Hosts has sworn by Himself: “Surely I will fill you with men like the locust, and they will lift up against you a shout.” The LORD of hosts has sworn by himself: Surely I will fill you with men, as many as locusts, and they shall raise the shout of victory over you. The LORD Almighty has sworn by himself: I will surely fill you with troops, as with a swarm of locusts, and they will shout in triumph over you.
The One making the earth by His power, establishing the world by His wisdom, and by His understanding He stretched out the heavens. “It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens. “He made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.
At the voice he gives forth is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and vapors He makes come up from the ends of the earth; He makes lightnings for the rain and He brings forth the wind from His storehouses. When he utters his voice there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he makes the mist rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain, and he brings forth the wind from his storehouses. When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.
Every man is brutish, without knowledge; every metalsmith is put to shame by the carved image, for deception is his molten image, and no breath is in them. Every man is stupid and without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, for his images are false, and there is no breath in them. “Everyone is senseless and without knowledge; every goldsmith is shamed by his idols. The images he makes are a fraud; they have no breath in them.
They are a vapor, a work of delusion; in the time of their visitation they will perish. They are worthless, a work of delusion; at the time of their punishment they shall perish. They are worthless, the objects of mockery; when their judgment comes, they will perish.
The Portion of Jacob is not like these, for He is the Maker of all things, and of the tribe of His inheritance; YHWH of Hosts is His name. Not like these is he who is the portion of Jacob, for he is the one who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the LORD of hosts is his name. He who is the Portion of Jacob is not like these, for he is the Maker of all things, including the people of his inheritance— the LORD Almighty is his name.

I will shatter with you man and woman, and I will smash with you old and young, and will shatter with you the young man and the maiden; with you I break in pieces man and woman; with you I break in pieces the old man and the youth; with you I break in pieces the young man and the young woman; with you I shatter man and woman, with you I shatter old man and youth, with you I shatter young man and young woman,

They will not take from you a stone for a corner or a stone for a foundation; but you will be a desolate wasteland forever!” A declaration of YHWH. No stone shall be taken from you for a corner and no stone for a foundation, but you shall be a perpetual waste, declares the LORD. No rock will be taken from you for a cornerstone, nor any stone for a foundation, for you will be desolate forever,” declares the LORD.
“Lift up a signal on the earth, blow the shofar among the nations; prepare against her the nations, summon against her the kingdoms—Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; appoint against her a general, cause to come up the horses like bristling locust! “Set up a standard on the earth; blow the trumpet among the nations; prepare the nations for war against her; summon against her the kingdoms, Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; appoint a marshal against her; bring up horses like bristling locusts. “Lift up a banner in the land! Blow the trumpet among the nations! Prepare the nations for battle against her; summon against her these kingdoms: Ararat, Minni and Ashkenaz. Appoint a commander against her; send up horses like a swarm of locusts.

Prepare the nations for battle against her— the kings of the Medes, their governors and all their officials, and all the countries they rule.
The land will tremble and it will writhe, for every plan of YHWH against Babylon will stand, to set the land of Babylon as a desolation without one dwelling. The land trembles and writhes in pain, for the LORD’s purposes against Babylon stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant. The land trembles and writhes, for the LORD’s purposes against Babylon stand— to lay waste the land of Babylon so that no one will live there.
The mighty men of Babylon have ceased from fighting; they sit in their strongholds; their might has dried up; they have become like women; they have burned her dwelling places; her bars are broken. The warriors of Babylon have ceased fighting; they remain in their strongholds; their strength has failed; they have become women; her dwellings are on fire; her bars are broken. Babylon’s warriors have stopped fighting; they remain in their strongholds. Their strength is exhausted; they have become weaklings. Her dwellings are set on fire; the bars of her gates are broken.
Runner runs to meet runner, and messenger to meet messenger, to declare to the king of Babylon that his city is captured at the extremity; One runner runs to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to tell the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every side; One courier follows another and messenger follows messenger to announce to the king of Babylon that his entire city is captured,

“He has devoured me, he has crushed me—Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; he has made me stand as an empty vessel; he has swallowed me up like a monster, he has filled his belly with my delicacies; he has vomited me out! “Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me; he has made me an empty vessel; he has swallowed me like a monster; he has filled his stomach with my delicacies; he has rinsed me out. “Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has devoured us, he has thrown us into confusion, he has made us an empty jar. Like a serpent he has swallowed us and filled his stomach with our delicacies, and then has spewed us out.
May the violence to me and my flesh be upon Babylon,” says the dweller of Zion, “and my blood be toward those dwelling in Chaldea”—says Jerusalem. The violence done to me and to my kinsmen be upon Babylon,” let the inhabitant of Zion say. “My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea,” let Jerusalem say. May the violence done to our flesh be on Babylon,” say the inhabitants of Zion. “May our blood be on those who live in Babylonia,” says Jerusalem.
Therefore, thus says YHWH: “Behold, I will plead your case, and I will take vengeance in vengeance for you! I will dry up her sea, and I will make dry her springs; Therefore thus says the LORD: “Behold, I will plead your cause and take vengeance for you. I will dry up her sea and make her fountain dry, Therefore this is what the LORD says: “See, I will defend your cause and avenge you; I will dry up her sea and make her springs dry.
Babylon will become as heaps, an abode for jackals, a horror and a hissing, without one dwelling. and Babylon shall become a heap of ruins, the haunt of jackals, a horror and a hissing, without inhabitant. Babylon will be a heap of ruins, a haunt of jackals, an object of horror and scorn, a place where no one lives.
Together like young lions they will roar; they will growl like cubs of lions. “They shall roar together like lions; they shall growl like lions’ cubs. Her people all roar like young lions, they growl like lion cubs.
In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunk, so that they may rejoice, and sleep a sleep forever, and they will not awake!” A declaration of YHWH. While they are inflamed I will prepare them a feast and make them drunk, that they may become merry, then sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake, declares the LORD. But while they are aroused, I will set out a feast for them and make them drunk, so that they shout with laughter— then sleep forever and not awake,” declares the LORD.
I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with male goats. I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams and male goats. “I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams and goats.
How Sheshach has been captured, and the praise of all the earth is seized! How Babylon has become as a desolation among the nations! “How Babylon is taken, the praise of the whole earth seized! How Babylon has become a horror among the nations! “How Sheshak will be captured, the boast of the whole earth seized! How desolate Babylon will be among the nations!
The sea has come up over Babylon; with the multitude of its waves she is covered. The sea has come up on Babylon; she is covered with its tumultuous waves. The sea will rise over Babylon; its roaring waves will cover her.
Her cities have become as a desolation, a dry land and a desert, a land—none does dwell in them, any man, and no son of man passes through it. Her cities have become a horror, a land of drought and a desert, a land in which no one dwells, and through which no son of man passes. Her towns will be desolate, a dry and desert land, a land where no one lives, through which no one travels.
And I will visit punishment upon Bel in Babylon, and I will bring out what he has swallowed—from his mouth, and no more will flow to him the nations; indeed the wall of Babylon has fallen! And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and take out of his mouth what he has swallowed. The nations shall no longer flow to him; the wall of Babylon has fallen. I will punish Bel in Babylon and make him spew out what he has swallowed. The nations will no longer stream to him. And the wall of Babylon will fall.
Go out from the midst of her, My people, and let deliver each man his soul from the burning of the anger of YHWH. “Go out of the midst of her, my people! Let every one save his life from the fierce anger of the LORD! “Come out of her, my people! Run for your lives! Run from the fierce anger of the LORD.
Do not let your⁺ heart grow faint, and do not be afraid of the report being heard in the land; for will come in one year a report, and in the year after that a report, and violence is in the land, and ruler is against ruler. Let not your heart faint, and be not fearful at the report heard in the land, when a report comes in one year and afterward a report in another year, and violence is in the land, and ruler is against ruler. Do not lose heart or be afraid when rumors are heard in the land; one rumor comes this year, another the next, rumors of violence in the land and of ruler against ruler.
Therefore, behold, the days are coming when I will visit punishment on the carved images of Babylon; and all her land will be put to shame, and all her slain will fall in her midst. “Therefore, behold, the days are coming when I will punish the images of Babylon; her whole land shall be put to shame, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her. For the time will surely come when I will punish the idols of Babylon; her whole land will be disgraced and her slain will all lie fallen within her.

Then the heavens and the earth, and all that is in them, shall sing for joy over Babylon, for the destroyers shall come against them out of the north, declares the LORD. Then heaven and earth and all that is in them will shout for joy over Babylon, for out of the north destroyers will attack her,” declares the LORD.
“Even Babylon must fall for the slain of Israel, even as for Babylon have fallen the slain of all the earth. Babylon must fall for the slain of Israel, just as for Babylon have fallen the slain of all the earth. “Babylon must fall because of Israel’s slain, just as the slain in all the earth have fallen because of Babylon.
Escapees from the sword, go, do not stand still! Remember YHWH from far off, and let Jerusalem come up upon your⁺ heart.” “You who have escaped from the sword, go, do not stand still! Remember the LORD from far away, and let Jerusalem come into your mind: You who have escaped the sword, leave and do not linger! Remember the LORD in a distant land, and call to mind Jerusalem.”
“We are put to shame, because we have heard reproach; shame has covered our faces, for strangers have come upon the holy places of the house of YHWH.” ‘We are put to shame, for we have heard reproach; dishonor has covered our face, for foreigners have come into the holy places of the LORD’s house.’ “We are disgraced, for we have been insulted and shame covers our faces, because foreigners have entered the holy places of the LORD’s house.”
“Therefore, behold, the days are coming,” a declaration of YHWH, “when I will visit punishment on her carved images, and in all her land the wounded will groan. “Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will execute judgment upon her images, and through all her land the wounded shall groan. “But days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will punish her idols, and throughout her land the wounded will groan.

Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens and fortifies her lofty stronghold, I will send destroyers against her,” declares the LORD.
“The voice of a cry is from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans! “A voice! A cry from Babylon! The noise of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans! “The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, the sound of great destruction from the land of the Babylonians.
For YHWH is destroying Babylon, and He has destroyed from her the great voice; and have sounded their waves like great waters, and has given forth their voice a roar. For the LORD is laying Babylon waste and stilling her mighty voice. Their waves roar like many waters; the noise of their voice is raised, The LORD will destroy Babylon; he will silence her noisy din. Waves of enemies will rage like great waters; the roar of their voices will resound.
For is coming against her, against Babylon, the destroyer, her mighty men will be captured, their bows will be broken; for the God of recompense is YHWH; He will repay in full! for a destroyer has come upon her, upon Babylon; her warriors are taken; their bows are broken in pieces, for the LORD is a God of recompense; he will surely repay. A destroyer will come against Babylon; her warriors will be captured, and their bows will be broken. For the LORD is a God of retribution; he will repay in full.
I will make drunk her officers and her wise men, her governors, and her deputies, and her mighty men; they will sleep a sleep everlasting, and they will not wake up!” A declaration of the King—YHWH of Hosts is His name. I will make drunk her officials and her wise men, her governors, her commanders, and her warriors; they shall sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake, declares the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. I will make her officials and wise men drunk, her governors, officers and warriors as well; they will sleep forever and not awake,” declares the King, whose name is the LORD Almighty.
Thus says YHWH of Hosts: “The broad walls of Babylon will be completely stripped down, and her high gates will be burned with fire; the people will toil in vain, and the nations will grow weary at the abundance of the fire.” “Thus says the LORD of hosts: The broad wall of Babylon shall be leveled to the ground, and her high gates shall be burned with fire. The peoples labor for nothing, and the nations weary themselves only for fire.” This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Babylon’s thick wall will be leveled and her high gates set on fire; the peoples exhaust themselves for nothing, the nations’ labor is only fuel for the flames.”
The word that Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah son of Neriah son of Mahseiah, at his going with Zedekiah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And Seraiah was the prince of quietness. The word that Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah king of Judah to Babylon, in the fourth year of his reign. Seraiah was the quartermaster. This is the message Jeremiah the prophet gave to the staff officer Seraiah son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon with Zedekiah king of Judah in the fourth year of his reign.
Jeremiah wrote down all the evil that would come upon Babylon into one scroll; all these words that were written against Babylon. Jeremiah wrote in a book all the disaster that should come upon Babylon, all these words that are written concerning Babylon. Jeremiah had written on a scroll about all the disasters that would come upon Babylon—all that had been recorded concerning Babylon.
And Jeremiah said to Seraiah: “In your coming to Babylon, you should see and call out all these words. And Jeremiah said to Seraiah: “When you come to Babylon, see that you read all these words, He said to Seraiah, “When you get to Babylon, see that you read all these words aloud.
And you shall say, ‘O YHWH, You have spoken against this place to cut it off, so that there is no one remaining in it, from man even to beast, but it will be a desolation forever.’ and say, ‘O LORD, you have said concerning this place that you will cut it off, so that nothing shall dwell in it, neither man nor beast, and it shall be desolate forever.’ Then say, ‘LORD, you have said you will destroy this place, so that neither people nor animals will live in it; it will be desolate forever.’
And it will come to pass at your completing to call out this scroll, that you shall tie upon it a stone and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates; When you finish reading this book, tie a stone to it and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates, When you finish reading this scroll, tie a stone to it and throw it into the Euphrates.
and you shall say, ‘Thus Babylon will sink, and she will not rise from the face of the disaster that I am bringing upon her; and they shall be weary.’” Up to here are the words of Jeremiah. and say, ‘Thus shall Babylon sink, to rise no more, because of the disaster that I am bringing upon her, and they shall become exhausted.’” Thus far are the words of Jeremiah. Then say, ‘So will Babylon sink to rise no more because of the disaster I will bring on her. And her people will fall.’” The words of Jeremiah end here.
