| 1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, | 1The LORD told Moses, |
| 2This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought unto the priest: | 2"This is the law concerning those who have infectious skin diseases, after they have been cleansed: |
| 3And the priest shall go forth out of the camp; and the priest shall look, and, behold, if the plague of leprosy be healed in the leper; | 3The priest is to go outside the camp and examine the infectious skin disease to confirm that the person has been healed. |
| 4Then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop: | 4If he has been healed, then the priest is to command that two live and clean birds, some cedar wood, some crimson thread, and hyssop be brought for the one cleansed. |
| 5And the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel over running water: | 5Then the priest is to command that one bird be slaughtered on an earthen vessel over flowing water. |
| 6As for the living bird, he shall take it, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, and shall dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water: | 6He is to take the live bird, the cedar wood, the crimson thread, and the hyssop, and dip them together in the blood of the bird that had been slaughtered over the flowing water. |
| 7And he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose into the open field. | 7He is to sprinkle the blood seven times on the person with the infectious skin disease and then pronounce him clean. Then he is to release the live bird into the open fields. |
| 8And he that is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes, and shave off all his hair, and wash himself in water, that he may be clean: and after that he shall come into the camp, and shall tarry abroad out of his tent seven days. | 8The person who is clean is to wash his clothes, shave all his hair, and bathe in water, after which he is to be declared clean. Then he can be brought back to the camp, but he is to remain outside his tent for seven days. |
| 9But it shall be on the seventh day, that he shall shave all his hair off his head and his beard and his eyebrows, even all his hair he shall shave off: and he shall wash his clothes, also he shall wash his flesh in water, and he shall be clean. | 9On the seventh day, he is to shave the hair on his head, chin, back, and eyebrows. After he has shaved all his hair, washed his clothes, and bathed himself with water, then he will be clean." |
| 10And on the eighth day he shall take two he lambs without blemish, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish, and three tenth deals of fine flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and one log of oil. | 10"On the eighth day, he is to take two lambs without defect, a one year old ewe lamb without defect, one third of a measure of fine flour mixed with olive oil for a meal offering, and one log of oil. |
| 11And the priest that maketh him clean shall present the man that is to be made clean, and those things, before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: | 11The priest who will pronounce him clean is to present the person to be cleansed and these offerings in the LORD's presence at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. |
| 12And the priest shall take one he lamb, and offer him for a trespass offering, and the log of oil, and wave them for a wave offering before the LORD: | 12The priest is to take one of the lambs and present it as a guilt offering, along with one log of olive oil, which he is to wave as a raised offering in the LORD's presence. |
| 13And he shall slay the lamb in the place where he shall kill the sin offering and the burnt offering, in the holy place: for as the sin offering is the priest's, so is the trespass offering: it is most holy: | 13Then he is to slaughter the lamb in the place where he slaughtered the sin and burnt offerings—that is, at a place in the sanctuary. Just as the sin offering is for the priest, so also is the guilt offering. It's a most holy thing. |
| 14And the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and the priest shall put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot: | 14"Then the priest is to take some of the blood from the guilt offering and place it on the right earlobe of the person to be cleansed, on his right thumb, and on his right great toe. |
| 15And the priest shall take some of the log of oil, and pour it into the palm of his own left hand: | 15Then the priest is to take some of the log of olive oil and pour it into his own left hand. |
| 16And the priest shall dip his right finger in the oil that is in his left hand, and shall sprinkle of the oil with his finger seven times before the LORD: | 16The priest is to dip his right finger in the olive oil that is in his left palm and sprinkle some of the olive oil with his finger seven times in the LORD's presence. |
| 17And of the rest of the oil that is in his hand shall the priest put upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the blood of the trespass offering: | 17"As to the remainder of the olive oil in his palm, he is to place some on the right earlobe of the person to be cleansed, on his right thumb, on his right great toe, and on the blood of the guilt offering. |
| 18And the remnant of the oil that is in the priest's hand he shall pour upon the head of him that is to be cleansed: and the priest shall make an atonement for him before the LORD. | 18Then he is to place the rest of the oil in his palm on the head of the person to be cleansed, thus making atonement for him in the LORD's presence. |
| 19And the priest shall offer the sin offering, and make an atonement for him that is to be cleansed from his uncleanness; and afterward he shall kill the burnt offering: | 19This is how the priest is to present the sin offering to make atonement for the person being cleansed of his impurity. After this, he is to slaughter the whole burnt offering. |
| 20And the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the meat offering upon the altar: and the priest shall make an atonement for him, and he shall be clean. | 20The priest is to offer both the whole burnt and the grain offerings on the altar. After the priest makes atonement for him, he will be clean." |
| 21And if he be poor, and cannot get so much; then he shall take one lamb for a trespass offering to be waved, to make an atonement for him, and one tenth deal of fine flour mingled with oil for a meat offering, and a log of oil; | 21"If the offeror is poor and cannot afford the regular offering, then he is to take one lamb for a guilt offering that will be presented in the form of a wave offering to atone for him, one tenth of a measure of fine flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, one log of olive oil, |
| 22And two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, such as he is able to get; and the one shall be a sin offering, and the other a burnt offering. | 22and two turtledoves or two young pigeons, whichever he can afford. One is for a sin offering and the other is for a whole burnt offering. |
| 23And he shall bring them on the eighth day for his cleansing unto the priest, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, before the LORD. | 23"On the eighth day, he is to bring them for cleansing to the priest in the LORD's presence at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. |
| 24And the priest shall take the lamb of the trespass offering, and the log of oil, and the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the LORD: | 24The priest is to take the lamb for a guilt offering and the olive oil and wave them as a raised offering in the LORD's presence. |
| 25And he shall kill the lamb of the trespass offering, and the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot: | 25Then he is to take the lamb for the guilt offering and place some blood from the guilt offering on the right earlobe of the person to be cleansed, on his right thumb, and on his right great toe. |
| 26And the priest shall pour of the oil into the palm of his own left hand: | 26Then the priest is to pour olive oil into his left palm |
| 27And the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger some of the oil that is in his left hand seven times before the LORD: | 27and use his right finger to sprinkle oil from his left palm seven times in the LORD's presence. |
| 28And the priest shall put of the oil that is in his hand upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the place of the blood of the trespass offering: | 28The priest is to place oil from his palm on the right earlobe of the person being cleansed, on his right thumb, on his right great toe, and where the blood for the guilt offering is poured. |
| 29And the rest of the oil that is in the priest's hand he shall put upon the head of him that is to be cleansed, to make an atonement for him before the LORD. | 29"As to the remainder of the oil in his palm, the priest is to use it to anoint the head of the person to be cleansed, in order to make atonement for him in the LORD's presence. |
| 30And he shall offer the one of the turtledoves, or of the young pigeons, such as he can get; | 30Then he is to offer one of the turtledoves or the young pigeons, whichever he can afford. |
| 31Even such as he is able to get, the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, with the meat offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for him that is to be cleansed before the LORD. | 31Based on what he can afford, one is for a sin offering and the other is for a whole burnt offering. Along with the grain offering, the priest is to make atonement for the person to be cleansed in the LORD's presence. |
| 32This is the law of him in whom is the plague of leprosy, whose hand is not able to get that which pertaineth to his cleansing. | 32This is the regulation concerning one who has an infectious skin disease but who cannot afford his cleansing." |
| 33And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, | 33The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron: |
| 34When ye be come into the land of Canaan, which I give to you for a possession, and I put the plague of leprosy in a house of the land of your possession; | 34"When you enter the land of Canaan that I'm about to give you as your own possession, and if I put a contagion in a house in the land that you possess, |
| 35And he that owneth the house shall come and tell the priest, saying, It seemeth to me there is as it were a plague in the house: | 35then the owner of the house is to approach the priest and tell him, 'There appears to be a contagion in the house.' |
| 36Then the priest shall command that they empty the house, before the priest go into it to see the plague, that all that is in the house be not made unclean: and afterward the priest shall go in to see the house: | 36"The priest is to command that the house be cleared before he comes to examine the contagion so that not everything in the house becomes unclean. After this, the priest is to enter the house and examine it. |
| 37And he shall look on the plague, and, behold, if the plague be in the walls of the house with hollow strakes, greenish or reddish, which in sight are lower than the wall; | 37He is to determine if the contagion is indeed on the walls of the house, with greenish or reddish streaks, and to determine if it appears to be deeper than the surface of the wall. |
| 38Then the priest shall go out of the house to the door of the house, and shut up the house seven days: | 38The priest is to leave through the entrance to the house and seal the house for seven days. |
| 39And the priest shall come again the seventh day, and shall look: and, behold, if the plague be spread in the walls of the house; | 39He is to return after seven days to examine it. If the contagion has spread to the walls of the house, |
| 40Then the priest shall command that they take away the stones in which the plague is, and they shall cast them into an unclean place without the city: | 40then the priest is to command that they take out the contaminated stones and discard them in an unclean place outside the city. |
| 41And he shall cause the house to be scraped within round about, and they shall pour out the dust that they scrape off without the city into an unclean place: | 41"Now as for the house, they are to scrape off inside and outside the house and then discard the torn out plaster in an unclean place outside the city. |
| 42And they shall take other stones, and put them in the place of those stones; and he shall take other morter, and shall plaister the house. | 42They are then to take other stones and bring them to replace those stones. Lastly, they are to replaster the house." |
| 43And if the plague come again, and break out in the house, after that he hath taken away the stones, and after he hath scraped the house, and after it is plaistered; | 43"If the contagion returns and spreads throughout the house after the stones have been removed, after the house has been scraped out, and after it has been re-coated, |
| 44Then the priest shall come and look, and, behold, if the plague be spread in the house, it is a fretting leprosy in the house: it is unclean. | 44and the priest comes, undertakes an examination, and determines that the contagion has spread in the house, it's a chronic fungal infection in the house. It's unclean. |
| 45And he shall break down the house, the stones of it, and the timber thereof, and all the morter of the house; and he shall carry them forth out of the city into an unclean place. | 45He is to pull down the house, its stones, its lumber, and all the plaster on the house, and discard them in an unclean place outside the city. |
| 46Moreover he that goeth into the house all the while that it is shut up shall be unclean until the even. | 46Moreover, whoever enters the house during the time it was isolated is to be considered unclean until the evening. |
| 47And he that lieth in the house shall wash his clothes; and he that eateth in the house shall wash his clothes. | 47Whoever has slept in the house is to wash his clothes, along with whoever has eaten in the house. |
| 48And if the priest shall come in, and look upon it, and, behold, the plague hath not spread in the house, after the house was plaistered: then the priest shall pronounce the house clean, because the plague is healed. | 48"But if the priest comes in to conduct an examination and determines that the contagion has not spread throughout the house after the house has been repaired, then the priest may declare the house clean, because the contagion has been cleansed. |
| 49And he shall take to cleanse the house two birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop: | 49In order to cleanse the house, he is to take two birds, some cedar wood, two crimson threads, and some hyssop. |
| 50And he shall kill the one of the birds in an earthen vessel over running water: | 50Then he is to slaughter one bird on an earthen vessel over flowing water. |
| 51And he shall take the cedar wood, and the hyssop, and the scarlet, and the living bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird, and in the running water, and sprinkle the house seven times: | 51He is to take the cedar wood, the hyssop, the two crimson threads, and the live bird, and dip them in the blood of the slaughtered bird over flowing water. Then he is to sprinkle the house seven times. |
| 52And he shall cleanse the house with the blood of the bird, and with the running water, and with the living bird, and with the cedar wood, and with the hyssop, and with the scarlet: | 52He is to clean the house with the blood of the bird over flowing water, including cleansing the live bird, the cedar wood, the hyssop, and the crimson thread. |
| 53But he shall let go the living bird out of the city into the open fields, and make an atonement for the house: and it shall be clean. | 53Then he is to send the bird away, outside the city, facing the fields, to make atonement for the house. Then it is to be considered clean. |
| 54This is the law for all manner of plague of leprosy, and scall, | 54"This is the law for every contagion of infectious skin disease and scabs, |
| 55And for the leprosy of a garment, and of a house, | 55for fungal infections on clothing or in a house, |
| 56And for a rising, and for a scab, and for a bright spot: | 56and for swelling of the skin, scabs, and bright spots, |
| 57To teach when it is unclean, and when it is clean: this is the law of leprosy. | 57to distinguish when it's unclean and clean. This is the law for infectious skin diseases." |
