The Hour of Doom

1  וַיְהִ֥י (And came to be) דְבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֵלַ֥י (to me) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  וְאַתָּ֣ה (And you) בֶן־ (son) אָדָ֗ם (of man), כֹּה־ (thus) אָמַ֞ר (says) אֲדֹנָ֧י (the Lord) יְהוִ֛ה (YHWH) לְאַדְמַ֥ת (to the land) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel);

קֵ֑ץ (An end), בָּ֣א (has come)

הַקֵּ֔ץ (the end) עַל־ (upon) אַרְבַּעַת (the four) כַּנְפ֥וֹת (corners) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (of the land).

3  עַתָּה֙ (Now) הַקֵּ֣ץ (the end is) עָלַ֔יִךְ (upon you)

וְשִׁלַּחְתִּ֤י (and I will send) אַפִּי֙ (My nose) בָּ֔ךְ (against you)

וּשְׁפַטְתִּ֖יךְ (and I will judge you) כִּדְרָכָ֑יִךְ (according to your ways),

וְנָתַתִּ֣י (and I will recompense) עָלַ֔יִךְ (upon you) אֵ֖ת (-) כָּל־ (all) תּוֹעֲבֹתָֽיִךְ׃ (your abominations).

4  וְלֹא־ (And not) תָח֥וֹס (will have pity) עֵינִ֛י (My eye) עָלַ֖יִךְ (on you)

וְלֹ֣א (and not) אֶחְמ֑וֹל (will I have pity);

כִּ֣י (for) דְרָכַ֜יִךְ (your ways) עָלַ֣יִךְ (against you) אֶתֵּ֗ן (I will recompense)

וְתוֹעֲבוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙ (and for your abominations) בְּתוֹכֵ֣ךְ (in your midst) תִּֽהְיֶ֔יןָ (that are)

וִידַעְתֶּ֖ם (and you⁺ will know) כִּֽי־ (that) אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָֽה׃פ (YHWH).

5  כֹּ֥ה (Thus) אָמַ֖ר (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֑ה (YHWH)

רָעָ֛ה (Disaster), אַחַ֥ת (a unique) רָעָ֖ה (disaster),

הִנֵּ֥ה (behold), בָאָֽה׃ (it is coming).

6  קֵ֣ץ (An end) בָּ֔א (has come),

בָּ֥א (has come)! הַקֵּ֖ץ (The end)

הֵקִ֣יץ (It has roused itself) אֵלָ֑יִךְ (against you)

הִנֵּ֖ה (behold), בָּאָֽה׃ (it is coming).

7  בָּ֧אָה (Has come) הַצְּפִירָ֛ה (doom) אֵלֶ֖יךָ (to you)

יוֹשֵׁ֣ב (O dweller) הָאָ֑רֶץ (of the land).

בָּ֣א (Has come), הָעֵ֗ת (the time)

קָר֛וֹב (is near), הַיּ֥וֹם (the day)

מְהוּמָ֖ה (of tumult)

וְלֹא־ (and not) הֵ֥ד (of rejoicing in) הָרִֽים׃ (the mountains).

8  עַתָּ֣ה (Now) מִקָּר֗וֹב (soon) אֶשְׁפּ֤וֹךְ (I will pour out) חֲמָתִי֙ (My fury) עָלַ֔יִךְ (upon you)

וְכִלֵּיתִ֤י (and will complete) אַפִּי֙ (My anger) בָּ֔ךְ (My anger)

וּשְׁפַטְתִּ֖יךְ (and I will judge you) כִּדְרָכָ֑יִךְ (according to your ways),

וְנָתַתִּ֣י (and I will recompense) עָלַ֔יִךְ (upon you) אֵ֖ת (-) כָּל־ (for all) תּוֹעֲבוֹתָֽיִךְ׃ (your abominations).

9  וְלֹא־ (And not) תָח֥וֹס (will have pity), עֵינִ֖י (My eye)

וְלֹ֣א (and not) אֶחְמ֑וֹל (will I have pity).

כִּדְרָכַ֜יִךְ (According to your ways) עָלַ֣יִךְ (to you) אֶתֵּ֗ן (I will give punishment)

וְתוֹעֲבוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙ (and your abominations) בְּתוֹכֵ֣ךְ (in your midst) תִּֽהְיֶ֔יןָ (will be)

וִֽידַעְתֶּ֕ם (and you⁺ will know) כִּ֛י (that) אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH)

מַכֶּֽה׃ (the One striking).

10  הִנֵּ֥ה (Behold) הַיּ֖וֹם (the day),

הִנֵּ֣ה (behold), בָאָ֑ה (it is coming)!

יָֽצְאָה֙ (Has gone forth); הַצְּפִרָ֔ה (the doom)

צָ֚ץ (has blossomed), הַמַּטֶּ֔ה (the rod)

פָּרַ֖ח (has budded) הַזָּדֽוֹן׃ (the arrogance).

11  הֶחָמָ֥ס׀ (Violence) קָ֖ם (has risen up)

לְמַטֵּה־ (into a rod) רֶ֑שַׁע (of wickedness).

לֹא־ (None) מֵהֶ֞ם (are of them)

וְלֹ֧א (and not any) מֵהֲמוֹנָ֛ם (from their crowd),

וְלֹ֥א (and not) מֶהֱמֵהֶ֖ם (from their wealth),

וְלֹא־ (and nothing) נֹ֥הַּ (anything of eminence) בָּהֶֽם׃ (among them).

12  בָּ֤א (Has come), הָעֵת֙ (the time)

הִגִּ֣יעַ (has drawn near). הַיּ֔וֹם (The day)

הַקּוֹנֶה֙ (the buyer) אַל־ (not) יִשְׂמָ֔ח (should rejoice),

וְהַמּוֹכֵ֖ר (and the seller) אַל־ (not) יִתְאַבָּ֑ל (should mourn);

כִּ֥י (for) חָר֖וֹן (wrath is) אֶל־ (upon) כָּל־ (all) הֲמוֹנָֽהּ׃ (their multitude).

13  כִּ֣י (For) הַמּוֹכֵ֗ר (the one selling) אֶל־ (to) הַמִּמְכָּר֙ (what has been sold), לֹ֣א (not) יָשׁ֔וּב (will return)

וְע֥וֹד (while) בַּחַיִּ֖ים (they live) חַיָּתָ֑ם (their life);

כִּֽי־ (for) חָז֤וֹן (the vision) אֶל־ (is to) כָּל־ (the whole) הֲמוֹנָהּ֙ (multitude)

לֹ֣א (and not) יָשׁ֔וּב (and it will turn back);

וְאִ֧ישׁ (and a man) בַּעֲוֺנ֛וֹ (by his iniquity) חַיָּת֖וֹ (his life)

לֹ֥א (not) יִתְחַזָּֽקוּ׃ (can strengthen).

The Desolation of Israel

14  תָּקְע֤וּ (They have blown) בַתָּק֙וֹעַ֙ (on the trumpet),

וְהָכִ֣ין (and made ready) הַכֹּ֔ל (everything);

וְאֵ֥ין (and there is not) הֹלֵ֖ךְ (one going) לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה (to the battle),

כִּ֥י (for) חֲרוֹנִ֖י (My wrath is) אֶל־ (against) כָּל־ (all) הֲמוֹנָֽהּ׃ (their multitude).

15  הַחֶ֣רֶב (The sword is) בַּח֔וּץ (is outside),

וְהַדֶּ֥בֶר (and pestilence) וְהָרָעָ֖ב (and famine) מִבָּ֑יִת (inside the house).

אֲשֶׁ֤ר (The one who is) בַּשָּׂדֶה֙ (in the field) בַּחֶ֣רֶב (by the sword); יָמ֔וּת (will die)

וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר (and the one who is) בָּעִ֔יר (in the city),

רָעָ֥ב (famine) וָדֶ֖בֶר (and pestilence) יֹאכֲלֶֽנּוּ׃ (will devour him).

16  וּפָֽלְטוּ֙ (And will escape) פְּלִ֣יטֵיהֶ֔ם (their fugatives),

וְהָי֣וּ (and they will be) אֶל־ (on) הֶהָרִ֗ים (the mountains) כְּיוֹנֵ֧י (like doves) הַגֵּאָי֛וֹת (of the valleys),

כֻּלָּ֖ם (all of them) הֹמ֑וֹת (mourning),

אִ֖ישׁ (each one) בַּעֲוֺנֽוֹ׃ (for his iniquity).

17  כָּל־ (Every) הַיָּדַ֖יִם (hand) תִּרְפֶּ֑ינָה (will go limp),

וְכָל־ (and every) בִּרְכַּ֖יִם (knee) תֵּלַ֥כְנָה (will go) מָּֽיִם׃ (as waters).

18  וְחָגְר֣וּ (And they will be girded) שַׂקִּ֔ים (with sackcloth),

וְכִסְּתָ֥ה (and will cover) אוֹתָ֖ם (them) פַּלָּצ֑וּת (suddering)

וְאֶ֤ל (and on) כָּל־ (every) פָּנִים֙ (face), בּוּשָׁ֔ה (is shame)

וּבְכָל־ (and on all) רָאשֵׁיהֶ֖ם (their heads) קָרְחָֽה׃ (baldness).

19  כַּסְפָּ֞ם (Their silver) בַּחוּצ֣וֹת (into the streets), יַשְׁלִ֗יכוּ (they will throw)

וּזְהָבָם֮ (and their gold) לְנִדָּ֣ה (like refuse); יִֽהְיֶה֒ (will become)

כַּסְפָּ֨ם (their silver) וּזְהָבָ֜ם (and their gold) לֹֽא־ (not) יוּכַ֣ל (will be able) לְהַצִּילָ֗ם (to deliver them)

בְּיוֹם֙ (on the day) עֶבְרַ֣ת (of the wrath) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH).

נַפְשָׁם֙ (Their souls), לֹ֣א (not) יְשַׂבֵּ֔עוּ (can they satisfy)

וּמֵעֵיהֶ֖ם (and their stomachs), לֹ֣א (and not) יְמַלֵּ֑אוּ (can they fill)

כִּֽי־ (for) מִכְשׁ֥וֹל (a stumbling lock)

עֲוֺנָ֖ם (their iniquity) הָיָֽה׃ (has become).

20  וּצְבִ֤י (And the beauty) עֶדְיוֹ֙ (of His ornament),

לְגָא֣וֹן (in majesty), שָׂמָ֔הוּ (he set it)

וְצַלְמֵ֧י (and the images) תוֹעֲבֹתָ֛ם (of their abominations)

שִׁקּוּצֵיהֶ֖ם (their detestable things) עָ֣שׂוּ (they made) ב֑וֹ (with it)

עַל־ (upon) כֵּ֛ן (thus)

נְתַתִּ֥יו (I have made it) לָהֶ֖ם (for them) לְנִדָּֽה׃ (like refuse).

21  וּנְתַתִּ֤יו (And I will give it) בְּיַֽד־ (into the hands)

הַזָּרִים֙ (of strangers) לָבַ֔ז (as plunder),

וּלְרִשְׁעֵ֥י (and to the wicked) הָאָ֖רֶץ (of the earth) לְשָׁלָ֑ל (as spoil);

וְחִלְּלֻהָ׃ (and they will defile it).

22  וַהֲסִבּוֹתִ֤י (And I will turn away) פָנַי֙ (My face) מֵהֶ֔ם (from them)

וְחִלְּל֖וּ (and they will defile) אֶת־ (-) צְפוּנִ֑י (My treasured place)

וּבָאוּ־ (and will come) בָ֥הּ (into it) פָּרִיצִ֖ים (robbers)

וְחִלְּלֽוּהָ׃פ (and they will defile it).

23  עֲשֵׂ֖ה (Make) הָֽרַתּ֑וֹק (a chain),

כִּ֣י (for) הָאָ֗רֶץ (the land) מָֽלְאָה֙ (is filled with) מִשְׁפַּ֣ט (with the judgment), דָּמִ֔ים (of blood)

וְהָעִ֖יר (and the city) מָלְאָ֥ה (is full) חָמָֽס׃ (of violence).

24  וְהֵֽבֵאתִי֙ (And I will bring) רָעֵ֣י (the evil) גוֹיִ֔ם (of the nations),

וְיָרְשׁ֖וּ (and they will possess) אֶת־ (-) בָּֽתֵּיהֶ֑ם (their houses).

וְהִשְׁבַּתִּי֙ (And I will cause to cease); גְּא֣וֹן (the pride) עַזִּ֔ים (of the strong)

וְנִחֲל֖וּ (and will be defiled) מְקַֽדְשֵׁיהֶֽם׃ (their holy places).

25  קְפָ֖דָה־ (Anguish) בָ֑א (comes);

וּבִקְשׁ֥וּ (and they will seek) שָׁל֖וֹם (peace), וָאָֽיִן׃ (and there is none).

26  הֹוָ֤ה (Disaster) עַל־ (upon) הֹוָה֙ (disaster), תָּב֔וֹא (will come)

וּשְׁמֻעָ֥ה (and rumor) אֶל־ (upon) שְׁמוּעָ֖ה (rumor); תִּֽהְיֶ֑ה (will be)

וּבִקְשׁ֤וּ (and they will seek) חָזוֹן֙ (a vision) מִנָּבִ֔יא (from a prophet);

וְתוֹרָה֙ (and the law) תֹּאבַ֣ד (will perish) מִכֹּהֵ֔ן (from the priest),

וְעֵצָ֖ה (and counsel) מִזְּקֵנִֽים׃ (from the elders).

27  הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ (The king) יִתְאַבָּ֗ל (will mourn),

וְנָשִׂיא֙ (and the prince) יִלְבַּ֣שׁ (will be clothed) שְׁמָמָ֔ה (with desolation),

וִידֵ֥י (and the hands) עַם־ (of the people) הָאָ֖רֶץ (of the land) תִּבָּהַ֑לְנָה (will tremble).

מִדַּרְכָּ֞ם (According to their own way), אֶעֱשֶׂ֤ה (I will deal) אוֹתָם֙ (with them)

וּבְמִשְׁפְּטֵיהֶ֣ם (and by their own judgment) אֶשְׁפְּטֵ֔ם (I will judge them)

וְיָדְע֖וּ (and they will know) כִּֽי־ (that) אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָֽה׃פ (YHWH).
