The Man with a Measuring Rod
(Zechariah 2:1–5)

1  בְּעֶשְׂרִ֣ים (In the twenty) וְחָמֵ֣שׁ (and fifth) שָׁנָ֣ה (year) לְ֠גָלוּתֵנוּ (of our captivity), בְּרֹ֨אשׁ (at the beginning) הַשָּׁנָ֜ה (of the year), בֶּעָשׂ֣וֹר (on the tenth) לַחֹ֗דֶשׁ (of the month), בְּאַרְבַּ֤ע (in the four) עֶשְׂרֵה֙ (and tenth) שָׁנָ֔ה (year) אַחַ֕ר (after) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) הֻכְּתָ֖ה (was captured), הָעִ֑יר (the city) בְּעֶ֣צֶם׀ (on the very) הַיּ֣וֹם (day) הַזֶּ֗ה (this) הָיְתָ֤ה (was) עָלַי֙ (upon me) יַד־ (the hand) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) וַיָּבֵ֥א (and He took) אֹתִ֖י (me) שָֽׁמָּה׃ (there). 2  בְּמַרְא֣וֹת (In visions) אֱלֹהִ֔ים (of God) הֱבִיאַ֖נִי (He brought me) אֶל־ (to) אֶ֣רֶץ (the land) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), וַיְנִיחֵ֗נִי (and made me rest) אֶל־ (on) הַ֤ר (a mountain), גָּבֹ֙הַּ֙ (high) מְאֹ֔ד (very) וְעָלָ֥יו (and on it was) כְּמִבְנֵה־ (like the structure) עִ֖יר (of a city) מִנֶּֽגֶב׃ (on the south).

3  וַיָּבֵ֨יא (And He brought) אוֹתִ֜י (me) שָׁ֗מָּה (there), וְהִנֵּה־ (and behold), אִישׁ֙ (a man), מַרְאֵ֙הוּ֙ (whose appearance) כְּמַרְאֵ֣ה (was like the appearance) נְחֹ֔שֶׁת (of bronze), וּפְתִיל־ (and He had a cord) פִּשְׁתִּ֥ים (of flax) בְּיָד֖וֹ (in his hand), וּקְנֵ֣ה (and a rod for); הַמִּדָּ֑ה (measuring) וְה֥וּא (and he) עֹמֵ֖ד (was standing) בַּשָּֽׁעַר׃ (in the gateway). 4  וַיְדַבֵּ֨ר (And said) אֵלַ֜י (to me) הָאִ֗ישׁ (the man) בֶּן־ (Son) אָדָ֡ם (of man), רְאֵ֣ה (look) בְעֵינֶיךָ֩ (with your eyes), וּבְאָזְנֶ֨יךָ (and with your ears), שְּׁמָ֜ע (hear) וְשִׂ֣ים (and set) לִבְּךָ֗ (your heart) לְכֹ֤ל (to all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) אֲנִי֙ (I) מַרְאֶ֣ה (am going to show) אוֹתָ֔ךְ (you) כִּ֛י (for) לְמַ֥עַן (that) הַרְאוֹתְכָ֖ה (I might show it to you) הֻבָ֣אתָה (you were brought) הֵ֑נָּה (here); הַגֵּ֛ד (declare) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) אַתָּ֥ה (you) רֹאֶ֖ה (see) לְבֵ֥ית (to the house) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel).

The East Gate

5  וְהִנֵּ֥ה (And behold) חוֹמָ֛ה (a wall) מִח֥וּץ (on the outside) לַבַּ֖יִת (of the temple) סָבִ֣יב׀ (surrounding it) סָבִ֑יב (around), וּבְיַ֨ד (and in the hand) הָאִ֜ישׁ (of the man) קְנֵ֣ה (was a rod) הַמִּדָּ֗ה (measuring) שֵׁשׁ־ (six) אַמּ֤וֹת (cubits) בָּֽאַמָּה֙ (by a cubit) וָטֹ֔פַח (and a handbreadth). וַיָּ֜מָד (And he measured) אֶת־ (-) רֹ֤חַב (the width) הַבִּנְיָן֙ (of the structure), קָנֶ֣ה (rod); אֶחָ֔ד (one) וְקוֹמָ֖ה (and the height), קָנֶ֥ה (rod) אֶחָֽד׃ (one).

6  וַיָּב֗וֹא (And he went) אֶל־ (to) שַׁ֙עַר֙ (the gateway) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (of which) פָּנָיו֙ (its face was) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַקָּדִ֔ימָה (the east), וַיַּ֖עַל (and he went up) בְּמַעֲלוֹתוֹ (on its steps) וַיָּ֣מָד׀ (and measured) אֶת־ (-) סַ֣ף (the threshold) הַשַּׁ֗עַר (of the gateway), קָנֶ֤ה (rod) אֶחָד֙ (one) רֹ֔חַב (deep); וְאֵת֙ (even) סַ֣ף (a threshold) אֶחָ֔ד (one) קָנֶ֥ה (that was rod) אֶחָ֖ד (one) רֹֽחַב׃ (deep). 7  וְהַתָּ֗א (And the gate chamber was) קָנֶ֨ה (rod) אֶחָ֥ד (one) אֹ֙רֶךְ֙ (long), וְקָנֶ֤ה (and rod) אֶחָד֙ (one) רֹ֔חַב (wide); וּבֵ֥ין (and between) הַתָּאִ֖ים (the gate chambers) חָמֵ֣שׁ (five) אַמּ֑וֹת (cubits); וְסַ֣ף (and the threshold) הַ֠שַּׁעַר (of the gateway) מֵאֵ֨צֶל (by) אוּלָ֥ם (the porch) הַשַּׁ֛עַר (of the gate) מֵֽהַבַּ֖יִת (inside) קָנֶ֥ה (was rod) אֶחָֽד׃ (one). 8  וַיָּ֜מָד (And He measured) אֶת־ (-) אֻלָ֥ם (the porch) הַשַּׁ֛עַר (of the gate) מֵהַבַּ֖יִת (inside), קָנֶ֥ה (rod) אֶחָֽד׃ (one). 9  וַיָּ֜מָד (And he measured) אֶת־ (-) אֻלָ֤ם (the porch) הַשַּׁ֙עַר֙ (of the gate), שְׁמֹנֶ֣ה (eight) אַמּ֔וֹת (cubits); וְאֵילוֹ (and the gateposts) שְׁתַּ֣יִם (two) אַמּ֑וֹת (cubits); וְאֻלָ֥ם (and the porch) הַשַּׁ֖עַר (of the gateway) מֵהַבָּֽיִת׃ (was on the inside).

10  וְתָאֵ֨י (And the chambers) הַשַּׁ֜עַר (of the gateway) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַקָּדִ֗ים (the east) שְׁלֹשָׁ֤ה (were three) מִפֹּה֙ (on this side), וּשְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה (and three) מִפֹּ֔ה (on this side); מִדָּ֥ה (a measure). אַחַ֖ת (Single) לִשְׁלָשְׁתָּ֑ם (unto the three) וּמִדָּ֥ה (and a measure) אַחַ֛ת (single was) לָאֵילִ֖ם (unto the gateposts) מִפֹּ֥ה (on this side) וּמִפּֽוֹ׃ (and on this side). 11  וַיָּ֛מָד (And He measured) אֶת־ (-) רֹ֥חַב (the width) פֶּֽתַח־ (of the entrance) הַשַּׁ֖עַר (of the gateway), עֶ֣שֶׂר (ten) אַמּ֑וֹת (cubits); אֹ֣רֶךְ (and the length) הַשַּׁ֔עַר (of the gate), שְׁל֥וֹשׁ (three) עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה (and ten) אַמּֽוֹת׃ (cubits).

12  וּגְב֞וּל (And there was a space) לִפְנֵ֤י (before the face) הַתָּאוֹת֙ (of the gate chambers) אַמָּ֣ה (cubit) אֶחָ֔ת (one) וְאַמָּה־ (and cubit) אַחַ֥ת (one) גְּב֖וּל (-) מִפֹּ֑ה (on this side); וְהַתָּ֕א (and the chambers were) שֵׁשׁ־ (six) אַמּ֣וֹת (cubits) מִפּ֔וֹ (on this side), וְשֵׁ֥שׁ (and six) אַמּ֖וֹת (cubits) מִפּֽוֹ׃ (on this side). 13  וַיָּ֣מָד (And he measured) אֶת־ (-) הַשַּׁ֗עַר (the gateway) מִגַּ֤ג (from the roof) הַתָּא֙ (of the one chamber) לְגַגּ֔וֹ (to the roof of the) רֹ֕חַב (and the width was) עֶשְׂרִ֥ים (twenty) וְחָמֵ֖שׁ (and five) אַמּ֑וֹת (cubits), פֶּ֖תַח (door) נֶ֥גֶד (over against) פָּֽתַח׃ (door).

14  וַיַּ֥עַשׂ (And He measured) אֶת־ (-) אֵילִ֖ים (the jambs) שִׁשִּׁ֣ים (sixty) אַמָּ֑ה (cubits high), וְאֶל־ (and to) אֵיל֙ (the gatepost) הֶֽחָצֵ֔ר (of the court was) הַשַּׁ֖עַר (the gateway) סָבִ֥יב׀ (all) סָבִֽיב׃ (around). 15  וְעַ֗ל (And from) פְּנֵי֙ (the front) הַשַּׁ֣עַר (of the gate at) הַיֹּאתוֹן (the entrance) עַל־ (to) לִפְנֵ֕י (the front) אֻלָ֥ם (of the porch) הַשַּׁ֖עַר (of the gate) הַפְּנִימִ֑י (inner) חֲמִשִּׁ֖ים (was fifty) אַמָּֽה׃ (cubits).

16  וְחַלֹּנ֣וֹת (And were windows) אֲטֻמ֣וֹת (beveled) אֶֽל־ (in) הַתָּאִ֡ים (the gate chambers), וְאֶל֩ (and in) אֵלֵיהֵ֨מָה (their side pillars) לִפְנִ֤ימָה (on the inside) לַשַּׁ֙עַר֙ (of the gateway) סָבִ֣יב׀ (all) סָבִ֔יב (around), וְכֵ֖ן (and likewise) לָאֵֽלַמּ֑וֹת (in the porticos). וְחַלּוֹנ֞וֹת (And were windows) סָבִ֤יב׀ (all) סָבִיב֙ (around) לִפְנִ֔ימָה (on the inside); וְאֶל־ (and on) אַ֖יִל (each side pillar were) תִּמֹרִֽים׃ (palm trees).

The Outer Court

17  וַיְבִיאֵ֗נִי (And he brought me) אֶל־ (into) הֶֽחָצֵר֙ (the court), הַחִ֣יצוֹנָ֔ה (outer) וְהִנֵּ֤ה (and behold), לְשָׁכוֹת֙ (chambers), וְרִֽצְפָ֔ה (and a pavement) עָשׂ֥וּי (made) לֶחָצֵ֖ר (for the court) סָבִ֣יב׀ (all) סָבִ֑יב (around); שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים (thirty) לְשָׁכ֖וֹת (chambers) אֶל־ (were toward) הָרִֽצְפָֽה׃ (the pavement). 18  וְהָרִֽצְפָה֙ (And the pavement was) אֶל־ (by) כֶּ֣תֶף (the side) הַשְּׁעָרִ֔ים (of the gateways) לְעֻמַּ֖ת (corresponding to) אֹ֣רֶךְ (the length) הַשְּׁעָרִ֑ים (of the gateways) הָרִֽצְפָ֖ה (this was the pavement) הַתַּחְתּוֹנָֽה׃ (lower).

19  וַיָּ֣מָד (And he measured) רֹ֡חַב (the width) מִלִּפְנֵי֩ (from the front) הַשַּׁ֨עַר (of the gateway) הַתַּחְתּ֜וֹנָה (lower) לִפְנֵ֨י (to the front) הֶחָצֵ֧ר (of the court) הַפְּנִימִ֛י (inner) מִח֖וּץ (on the ourside), מֵאָ֣ה (a hundred) אַמָּ֑ה (cubits) הַקָּדִ֖ים (toward the east) וְהַצָּפֽוֹן׃ (and the north).

The North Gate

20  וְהַשַּׁ֗עַר (And the gateway) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (which) פָּנָיו֙ (had its face) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַצָּפ֔וֹן (the north), לֶחָצֵ֖ר (of the court) הַחִֽיצוֹנָ֑ה (outer) מָדַ֥ד (also he measured) אָרְכּ֖וֹ (its length) וְרָחְבּֽוֹ׃ (and its width). 21  וְתָאוֹ (And its chambers were) שְׁלוֹשָׁ֤ה (three) מִפּוֹ֙ (on this side) וּשְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה (and three) מִפּ֔וֹ (on this side); וְאֵילוֹ (and for its side pillars) וְאֵלַמּוֹ (and its porticos) הָיָ֔ה (it was) כְּמִדַּ֖ת (according to the measure) הַשַּׁ֣עַר (of the gate). הָרִאשׁ֑וֹן (First) חֲמִשִּׁ֤ים (fifty) אַמָּה֙ (cubits), אָרְכּ֔וֹ (its length) וְרֹ֕חַב (and its width) חָמֵ֥שׁ (five) וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים (and twenty) בָּאַמָּֽה׃ (by the cubit). 22  וְחַלּוֹנוֹ (And for its windows), וְאֵלַמּוֹ (and its porticos), וְתִמֹרוֹ (and its palm trees), כְּמִדַּ֣ת (were according to the measure) הַשַּׁ֔עַר (of the gateway) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that had) פָּנָ֖יו (its face) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַקָּדִ֑ים (the east); וּבְמַעֲל֥וֹת (and with steps); שֶׁ֙בַע֙ (seven) יַֽעֲלוּ־ (do they ascend) ב֔וֹ (on it) וְאֵילַמּוֹ (and its portico was) לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃ (opposite them).

23  וְשַׁ֙עַר֙ (And a gate was) לֶחָצֵ֣ר (for the court) הַפְּנִימִ֔י (inner) נֶ֣גֶד (opposite) הַשַּׁ֔עַר (the gateway) לַצָּפ֖וֹן (to the north), וְלַקָּדִ֑ים (and like that to the east); וַיָּ֧מָד (and he measured) מִשַּׁ֛עַר (from gateway) אֶל־ (to) שַׁ֖עַר (gateway) מֵאָ֥ה (a hundred) אַמָּֽה׃ (cubits).

The South Gate

24  וַיּוֹלִכֵ֙נִי֙ (And he brought me) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַדָּר֔וֹם (the south), וְהִנֵּה־ (and behold) שַׁ֖עַר (a gateway) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַדָּר֑וֹם (the south); וּמָדַ֤ד (and he measured) אֵילוֹ (its side pillars) וְאֵילַמּוֹ (and its porticos) כַּמִּדּ֖וֹת (according to the measurements) הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ (these). 25  וְחַלּוֹנִ֨ים (And windows were) ל֤וֹ (for it) וּלְאֵילַמּוֹ (and for its porticos) סָבִ֣יב׀ (all) סָבִ֔יב (around), כְּהַחֲלֹּנ֖וֹת (like the windows); הָאֵ֑לֶּה (these) חֲמִשִּׁ֤ים (fifty) אַמָּה֙ (cubits), אֹ֔רֶךְ (was its length) וְרֹ֕חַב (and its width) חָמֵ֥שׁ (five) וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים (and twenty) אַמָּֽה׃ (cubits). 26  וּמַעֲל֤וֹת (And steps) שִׁבְעָה֙ (seven) עֹלוֹתוֹ (were its ascent) וְאֵלַמּוֹ (and its portico was) לִפְנֵיהֶ֑ם (in front of them) וְתִמֹרִ֣ים (and palm trees were), ל֗וֹ (unto it) אֶחָ֥ד (one) מִפּ֛וֹ (on this side), וְאֶחָ֥ד (and one) מִפּ֖וֹ (on this side), אֶל־ (on) אֵילוֹ׃ (its side pillars).

27  וְשַׁ֛עַר (And a gateway was) לֶחָצֵ֥ר (for the court) הַפְּנִימִ֖י (inner) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַדָּר֑וֹם (the south); וַיָּ֨מָד (and he measured) מִשַּׁ֧עַר (from gateway) אֶל־ (to) הַשַּׁ֛עַר (gateway) דֶּ֥רֶךְ (toward) הַדָּר֖וֹם (the south) מֵאָ֥ה (a hundred) אַמּֽוֹת׃ (cubits).

The Gates of the Inner Court

28  וַיְבִיאֵ֛נִי (And he brought me) אֶל־ (to) חָצֵ֥ר (the court) הַפְּנִימִ֖י (inner) בְּשַׁ֣עַר (through the gate); הַדָּר֑וֹם (south) וַיָּ֙מָד֙ (and he measured) אֶת־ (-) הַשַּׁ֣עַר (the gate) הַדָּר֔וֹם (southern) כַּמִּדּ֖וֹת (according to the same measurements); הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ (these). 29  וְתָאוֹ (And also its gate chambers) וְאֵילוֹ (and its side pillars) וְאֵלַמּוֹ (and its porticos were) כַּמִּדּ֣וֹת (according to the measurements). הָאֵ֔לֶּה (These) וְחַלּוֹנ֥וֹת (windows were) ל֛וֹ (for it) וּלְאֵלַמּוֹ (and for its porticos) סָבִ֣יב׀ (all) סָבִ֑יב (around); חֲמִשִּׁ֤ים (fifty) אַמָּה֙ (cubits) אֹ֔רֶךְ (long), וְרֹ֕חַב (and wide). עֶשְׂרִ֥ים (Twenty) וְחָמֵ֖שׁ (and five) אַמּֽוֹת׃ (cubits). 30  וְאֵֽלַמּ֖וֹת (And porticos were) סָבִ֣יב׀ (all) סָבִ֑יב (around) אֹ֗רֶךְ (long), חָמֵ֤שׁ (five) וְעֶשְׂרִים֙ (and twenty) אַמָּ֔ה (cubits) וְרֹ֖חַב (and wide) חָמֵ֥שׁ (five) אַמּֽוֹת׃ (cubits). 31  וְאֵלַמָּ֗ו (And its porticos) אֶל־ (were toward) חָצֵר֙ (the court); הַחִ֣צוֹנָ֔ה (outer) וְתִמֹרִ֖ים (and palm trees were) אֶל־ (on) אֵילוֹ (its side pillars) וּמַעֲל֥וֹת (and steps). שְׁמוֹנֶ֖ה (Eight) מַעֲלוֹ (were its ascent).

32  וַיְבִיאֵ֛נִי (And he brought me) אֶל־ (into) הֶחָצֵ֥ר (the court) הַפְּנִימִ֖י (inner) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַקָּדִ֑ים (the east). וַיָּ֣מָד (And he measured) אֶת־ (-) הַשַּׁ֔עַר (the gateway) כַּמִּדּ֖וֹת (according to the same measurements) הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ (these). 33  וְתָאוֹ (And also its gate chambers) וְאֵלוֹ (and its side pillars) וְאֵלַמּוֹ (and its porticos were) כַּמִּדּ֣וֹת (according to the same measurements). הָאֵ֔לֶּה (These) וְחַלּוֹנ֥וֹת (and windows were) ל֛וֹ (for it) וּלְאֵלַמּוֹ (and for its porticos) סָבִ֣יב׀ (all) סָבִ֑יב (around); אֹ֚רֶךְ (long), חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים (fifty) אַמָּ֔ה (cubits) וְרֹ֕חַב (and wide). חָמֵ֥שׁ (Five) וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים (and twenty) אַמָּֽה׃ (cubits). 34  וְאֵלַמּוֹ (And its porticos) לֶֽחָצֵר֙ (were toward the court); הַחִ֣יצוֹנָ֔ה (outer) וְתִמֹרִ֥ים (and palm trees were) אֶל־ (on) אֵלוֹ (its side pillars) מִפּ֣וֹ (on this side), וּמִפּ֑וֹ (and on this side), וּשְׁמֹנֶ֥ה (and eight) מַעֲל֖וֹת (steps). מַעֲלוֹ׃ (Were its ascent).

35  וַיְבִיאֵ֖נִי (And he brought me) אֶל־ (to) שַׁ֣עַר (the gate), הַצָּפ֑וֹן (to the north) וּמָדַ֖ד (and he measured it) כַּמִּדּ֥וֹת (according to the same measurements); הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ (these). 36  תָּאוֹ (Also its gate chambers) אֵלוֹ (and its side pillars) וְאֵלַמּוֹ (and its porticos) וְחַלּוֹנ֥וֹת (and windows were) ל֖וֹ (for it) סָבִ֣יב׀ (all) סָבִ֑יב (around); אֹ֚רֶךְ (its length was) חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים (fifty) אַמָּ֔ה (cubits), וְרֹ֕חַב (and its width) חָמֵ֥שׁ (five) וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים (and twenty) אַמָּֽה׃ (cubits). 37  וְאֵילוֹ (And its jambs) לֶֽחָצֵר֙ (were toward the court); הַחִ֣יצוֹנָ֔ה (outer) וְתִמֹרִ֥ים (and palm trees were) אֶל־ (on) אֵילוֹ (its side pillars) מִפּ֣וֹ (on this side), וּמִפּ֑וֹ (and on this side), וּשְׁמֹנֶ֥ה (and eight) מַעֲל֖וֹת (steps). מַעֲלוֹ׃ (Were its ascent).

Eight Tables for Sacrifices

38  וְלִשְׁכָּ֣ה (And a chamber) וּפִתְחָ֔הּ (and its entrance were) בְּאֵילִ֖ים (by the jambs) הַשְּׁעָרִ֑ים (of the gateways), שָׁ֖ם (where) יָדִ֥יחוּ (they washed) אֶת־ (-) הָעֹלָֽה׃ (the burnt offering). 39  וּבְאֻלָ֣ם (And in the portico) הַשַּׁ֗עַר (of the gateway) שְׁנַ֤יִם (were two) שֻׁלְחָנוֹת֙ (tables) מִפּ֔וֹ (on this side), וּשְׁנַ֥יִם (and two) שֻׁלְחָנ֖וֹת (tables) מִפֹּ֑ה (on this side), לִשְׁח֤וֹט (to slaughter) אֲלֵיהֶם֙ (on them) הָעוֹלָ֔ה (the burnt offering) וְהַחַטָּ֖את (and the sin offering) וְהָאָשָֽׁם׃ (and the guilt offering).

40  וְאֶל־ (And at) הַכָּתֵ֣ף (the shoulder) מִח֗וּצָה (on the outside), לָעוֹלֶה֙ (as one goes up) לְפֶ֙תַח֙ (to the entrance) הַשַּׁ֣עַר (of the gateway), הַצָּפ֔וֹנָה (to the north) שְׁנַ֖יִם (were two) שֻׁלְחָנ֑וֹת (tables); וְאֶל־ (and on) הַכָּתֵ֣ף (the side), הָאַחֶ֗רֶת (other) אֲשֶׁר֙ (-) לְאֻלָ֣ם (of the portico) הַשַּׁ֔עַר (of the gateway), שְׁנַ֖יִם (were two) שֻׁלְחָנֽוֹת׃ (tables). 41  אַרְבָּעָ֨ה (Four) שֻׁלְחָנ֜וֹת (tables were) מִפֹּ֗ה (on this side), וְאַרְבָּעָ֧ה (and four) שֻׁלְחָנ֛וֹת (tables) מִפֹּ֖ה (on this side), לְכֶ֣תֶף (by the side) הַשָּׁ֑עַר (of the gateway); שְׁמוֹנָ֥ה (eight) שֻׁלְחָנ֖וֹת (tables), אֲלֵיהֶ֥ם (and on them) יִשְׁחָֽטוּ׃ (they slaughtered).

42  וְאַרְבָּעָה֩ (And four) שֻׁלְחָנ֨וֹת (tables were) לָעוֹלָ֜ה (for the burnt offering), אַבְנֵ֣י (stones) גָזִ֗ית (hewn) אֹרֶךְ֩ (long), אַמָּ֨ה (cubit) אַחַ֤ת (one) וָחֵ֙צִי֙ (and a half) וְרֹ֨חַב (and wide), אַמָּ֤ה (cubit) אַחַת֙ (one) וָחֵ֔צִי (and a half) וְגֹ֖בַהּ (and high), אַמָּ֣ה (cubit) אֶחָ֑ת (one) אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם (on them) וְיַנִּ֤יחוּ (and did they lay) אֶת־ (-) הַכֵּלִים֙ (the instruments) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) יִשְׁחֲט֧וּ (they slaughtered) אֶת־ (-) הָעוֹלָ֛ה (the burnt offering) בָּ֖ם (by them) וְהַזָּֽבַח׃ (and the sacrifice).

43  וְהַֽשְׁפַתַּ֗יִם (And hooks), טֹ֧פַח (handbreadth), אֶחָ֛ד (one) מוּכָנִ֥ים (were fastened) בַּבַּ֖יִת (on the inside) סָבִ֣יב׀ (all) סָבִ֑יב (around); וְאֶל־ (and was on) הַשֻּׁלְחָנ֖וֹת (the tables) בְּשַׂ֥ר (the flesh) הַקָּרְבָֽן׃ (of the sacrifices).

Chambers for Ministry

44  וּמִחוּצָה֩ (And on the outside) לַשַּׁ֨עַר (of the gate were) הַפְּנִימִ֜י (the inner) לִֽשְׁכ֣וֹת (the chambers for) שָׁרִ֗ים (the singers) בֶּחָצֵ֤ר (in the court), הַפְּנִימִי֙ (inner) אֲשֶׁ֗ר (-) אֶל־ (at) כֶּ֙תֶף֙ (the side) שַׁ֣עַר (of gateway to); הַצָּפ֔וֹן (the north) וּפְנֵיהֶ֖ם (and their faces were) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַדָּר֑וֹם (the south), אֶחָ֗ד (and one) אֶל־ (at) כֶּ֙תֶף֙ (the side) שַׁ֣עַר (of gateway to) הַקָּדִ֔ים (of the east) פְּנֵ֖י (facing) דֶּ֥רֶךְ (toward) הַצָּפֹֽן׃ (the north).

45  וַיְדַבֵּ֖ר (And he said) אֵלָ֑י (to me) זֹ֣ה (This) הַלִּשְׁכָּ֗ה (chamber), אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) פָּנֶ֙יהָ֙ (faces) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַדָּר֔וֹם (the south), לַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים (is for the priests), שֹׁמְרֵ֖י (keeping) מִשְׁמֶ֥רֶת (guard) הַבָּֽיִת׃ (of the temple). 46  וְהַלִּשְׁכָּ֗ה (And the chamber) אֲשֶׁ֤ר (that) פָּנֶ֙יהָ֙ (faces) דֶּ֣רֶךְ (toward) הַצָּפ֔וֹן (the north) לַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים (is for the priests), שֹׁמְרֵ֖י (keeping) מִשְׁמֶ֣רֶת (guard) הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ (of the altar). הֵ֣מָּה (They are) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) צָד֗וֹק (of Zadok) הַקְּרֵבִ֧ים (those coming near) מִבְּנֵֽי־ (from all the sons) לֵוִ֛י (of Levi), אֶל־ (unto) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) לְשָׁרְתֽוֹ׃ (to minister to Him).

The Inner Court

47  וַיָּ֨מָד (And he measured) אֶת־ (-) הֶחָצֵ֜ר (the court), אֹ֣רֶךְ׀ (long), מֵאָ֣ה (a hundred) אַמָּ֗ה (cubits) וְרֹ֛חַב (and wide), מֵאָ֥ה (a hundred) אַמָּ֖ה (cubits) מְרֻבָּ֑עַת (being square); וְהַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ (and the altar was) לִפְנֵ֥י (before the face) הַבָּֽיִת׃ (of the temple).

48  וַיְבִאֵנִי֮ (And he brought me) אֶל־ (to) אֻלָ֣ם (the portico) הַבַּיִת֒ (of the temple), וַיָּ֙מָד֙ (and he measured) אֵ֣ל (the doorposts) אֻלָ֔ם (of the portico), חָמֵ֤שׁ (five) אַמּוֹת֙ (cubits) מִפֹּ֔ה (on this side), וְחָמֵ֥שׁ (and five) אַמּ֖וֹת (cubits) מִפֹּ֑ה (on this side); וְרֹ֣חַב (and the width) הַשַּׁ֔עַר (of the gateway) שָׁלֹ֤שׁ (was three) אַמּוֹת֙ (cubits) מִפּ֔וֹ (on this side), וְשָׁלֹ֥שׁ (and three) אַמּ֖וֹת (cubits) מִפּֽוֹ׃ (on this side). 49  אֹ֣רֶךְ (The length) הָאֻלָ֞ם (of the portico) עֶשְׂרִ֣ים (was twenty) אַמָּ֗ה (cubits), וְרֹ֙חַב֙ (and the width) עַשְׁתֵּ֣י (was one) עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה (and ten) אַמָּ֔ה (cubits); וּבַֽמַּעֲל֔וֹת (and by the steps) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) יַעֲל֖וּ (they went up) אֵלָ֑יו (to it) וְעַמֻּדִים֙ (and were pillars) אֶל־ (by) הָ֣אֵילִ֔ים (the doorposts), אֶחָ֥ד (one) מִפֹּ֖ה (on this side), וְאֶחָ֥ד (and one) מִפֹּֽה׃ (on this side).
