Daniel’s Vision of the Four Beasts
(Revelation 13:1–10)

1  בִּשְׁנַ֣ת (In the year) חֲדָ֗ה (first) לְבֵלְאשַׁצַּר֙ (of Belshazzar) מֶ֣לֶךְ (king) בָּבֶ֔ל (of Babylon) דָּנִיֵּאל֙ (Daniel) חֵ֣לֶם (a dream) חֲזָ֔ה (saw) וְחֶזְוֵ֥י (and visions) רֵאשֵׁ֖הּ (of his head) עַֽל־ (upon) מִשְׁכְּבֵ֑הּ (his bed); בֵּאדַ֙יִן֙ (Then) חֶלְמָ֣א (the dream), כְתַ֔ב (he wrote down) רֵ֥אשׁ (the sum) מִלִּ֖ין (of the matters) אֲמַֽר׃ (telling).

2  עָנֵ֤ה (Answered) דָנִיֵּאל֙ (Daniel) וְאָמַ֔ר (and said), חָזֵ֥ה (Looking) הֲוֵ֛ית (I was) בְּחֶזְוִ֖י (in my vision) עִם־ (at) לֵֽילְיָ֑א (night), וַאֲר֗וּ (and see), אַרְבַּע֙ (four) רוּחֵ֣י (winds) שְׁמַיָּ֔א (of the heavens) מְגִיחָ֖ן (were stirring up) לְיַמָּ֥א (the sea) רַבָּֽא׃ (great). 3  וְאַרְבַּ֤ע (And four) חֵיוָן֙ (beasts) רַבְרְבָ֔ן (great) סָלְקָ֖ן (were coming up) מִן־ (from) יַמָּ֑א (the sea), שָׁנְיָ֖ן (changing) דָּ֥א (this one) מִן־ (from) דָּֽא׃ (this one).

4  קַדְמָיְתָ֣א (The first was) כְאַרְיֵ֔ה (like a lion), וְגַפִּ֥ין (and with wings); דִּֽי־ (of) נְשַׁ֖ר (an eagle) לַ֑הּ (unto it) חָזֵ֣ה (Looking) הֲוֵ֡ית (I was) עַד֩ (until) דִּי־ (that) מְּרִ֨יטוּ (were plucked off), גַפַּ֜יהּ (its wings) וּנְטִ֣ילַת (and it was lifted up) מִן־ (from) אַרְעָ֗א (the earth), וְעַל־ (and on) רַגְלַ֙יִן֙ (two feet) כֶּאֱנָ֣שׁ (like a man), הֳקִימַ֔ת (it was made to stand) וּלְבַ֥ב (and a heart) אֱנָ֖שׁ (of man) יְהִ֥יב (was given) לַֽהּ׃ (to it).

5  וַאֲר֣וּ (And behold) חֵיוָה֩ (there was a beast), אָחֳרִ֨י (another) תִנְיָנָ֜ה (a second), דָּמְיָ֣ה (being like) לְדֹ֗ב (a bear), וְלִשְׂטַר־ (and to a side), חַד֙ (one) הֳקִמַ֔ת (it was raised up) וּתְלָ֥ת (and were three) עִלְעִ֛ין (ribs) בְּפֻמַּ֖הּ (in its mouth) בֵּ֣ין (between) שִׁנַּיַּהּ (its teeth) וְכֵן֙ (and thus) אָמְרִ֣ין (they said) לַ֔הּ (to it) ק֥וּמִֽי (Arise), אֲכֻ֖לִי (devour) בְּשַׂ֥ר (flesh) שַׂגִּֽיא׃ (much).

6  בָּאתַ֨ר (After) דְּנָ֜ה (this) חָזֵ֣ה (looking) הֲוֵ֗ית (I was) וַאֲר֤וּ (and behold) אָֽחֳרִי֙ (another), כִּנְמַ֔ר (like a leopard), וְלַ֨הּ (and unto it were) גַּפִּ֥ין (wings) אַרְבַּ֛ע (four) דִּי־ (of) ע֖וֹף (a bird); עַל־ (on) גַּבַּיַּהּ (its back) וְאַרְבְּעָ֤ה (and four) רֵאשִׁין֙ (heads); לְחֵ֣יוְתָ֔א (were unto the beast) וְשָׁלְטָ֖ן (and dominion) יְהִ֥יב (was given) לַֽהּ׃ (to it).

7  בָּאתַ֣ר (After) דְּנָה֩ (this) חָזֵ֨ה (looking) הֲוֵ֜ית (I was) בְּחֶזְוֵ֣י (in my visions), לֵֽילְיָ֗א (of the night) וַאֲר֣וּ (and behold) חֵיוָ֣ה (a beast), רְבִיעָיָה (fourth) דְּחִילָה֩ (being fearsome) וְאֵֽימְתָנִ֨י (and terrible), וְתַקִּיפָ֜א (and strong) יַתִּ֗ירָא (exceedingly); וְשִׁנַּ֨יִן (and teeth). דִּֽי־ (Of) פַרְזֶ֥ל (iron) לַהּ֙ (unto it) רַבְרְבָ֔ן (great) אָֽכְלָ֣ה (it was devouring) וּמַדֱּקָ֔ה (and breaking in pieces), וּשְׁאָרָ֖א (and the remainder) בְּרַגְלַיַּהּ (with its feet) רָפְסָ֑ה (was trampling) וְהִ֣יא (and it) מְשַׁנְּיָ֗ה (was different) מִן־ (from) כָּל־ (all) חֵֽיוָתָא֙ (the beasts) דִּ֣י (that were) קָֽדָמַ֔יהּ (before it) וְקַרְנַ֥יִן (and horns) עֲשַׂ֖ר (ten) לַֽהּ׃ (were unto it). 8  מִשְׂתַּכַּ֨ל (Giving consideration) הֲוֵ֜ית (was I) בְּקַרְנַיָּ֗א (to these horns), וַ֠אֲלוּ (and behold), קֶ֣רֶן (a horn), אָחֳרִ֤י (another) זְעֵירָה֙ (a little one) סִלְקָ֣ת (came up) בֵּינֵיהוֹן (among them) וּתְלָ֗ת (and three) מִן־ (of) קַרְנַיָּא֙ (the horns) קַדְמָ֣יָתָ֔א (first) אֶתְעֲקַרוּ (were uprooted); מִן־ (from) קֳדָמַיַּהּ (before it) וַאֲל֨וּ (and behold), עַיְנִ֜ין (were eyes) כְּעַיְנֵ֤י (like the eyes) אֲנָשָׁא֙ (of a man), בְּקַרְנָא־ (in the horn) דָ֔א (this) וּפֻ֖ם (and a mouth) מְמַלִּ֥ל (speaking) רַבְרְבָֽן׃ (great things).

Daniel’s Vision of the Ancient of Days

9  חָזֵ֣ה (Looking) הֲוֵ֗ית (I was)

עַ֣ד (until) דִּ֤י (that) כָרְסָוָן֙ (thrones) רְמִ֔יו (were set in place),

וְעַתִּ֥יק (and the Ancient) יוֹמִ֖ין (of Days) יְתִ֑ב (took His seat),

לְבוּשֵׁ֣הּ׀ (His garment was) כִּתְלַ֣ג (as snow), חִוָּ֗ר (white)

וּשְׂעַ֤ר (and the hair) רֵאשֵׁהּ֙ (of His head was) כַּעֲמַ֣ר (like wool). נְקֵ֔א (Pure)

כָּרְסְיֵהּ֙ (His throne was) שְׁבִיבִ֣ין (as flames), דִּי־ (-) נ֔וּר (of fire)

גַּלְגִּלּ֖וֹהִי (and its wheels) נ֥וּר (a fire) דָּלִֽק׃ (were burning).

10  נְהַ֣ר (A river) דִּי־ (of) נ֗וּר (fire) נָגֵ֤ד (was flowing)

וְנָפֵק֙ (and coming forth) מִן־ (from) קֳדָמ֔וֹהִי (before Him)

אֶ֤לֶף (a thousand) אַלְפִים (thousands) יְשַׁמְּשׁוּנֵּ֔הּ (ministered to Him)

וְרִבּ֥וֹ (and myriads) רִבְּוָן (upon myriads) קָֽדָמ֣וֹהִי (before Him) יְקוּמ֑וּן (stood)

דִּינָ֥א (the judgment) יְתִ֖ב (was seated),

וְסִפְרִ֥ין (and the books) פְּתִֽיחוּ׃ (were opened).

11  חָזֵ֣ה (Looking) הֲוֵ֔ית (I was) בֵּאדַ֗יִן (then) מִן־ (because) קָל֙ (of the voice) מִלַּיָּ֣א (of the words) רַבְרְבָתָ֔א (great) דִּ֥י (that) קַרְנָ֖א (the horn) מְמַלֱּלָ֑ה (was speaking); חָזֵ֣ה (looking) הֲוֵ֡ית (I was) עַד֩ (until) דִּ֨י (that) קְטִילַ֤ת (was slain), חֵֽיוְתָא֙ (the beast) וְהוּבַ֣ד (and was destroyed), גִּשְׁמַ֔הּ (its body) וִיהִיבַ֖ת (and was given) לִיקֵדַ֥ת (to the burning) אֶשָּֽׁא׃ (flame). 12  וּשְׁאָר֙ (And the rest) חֵֽיוָתָ֔א (of the beasts), הֶעְדִּ֖יו (was taken away); שָׁלְטָנְה֑וֹן (their dominion) וְאַרְכָ֧ה (and an extension) בְחַיִּ֛ין (in life) יְהִ֥יבַת (was given) לְה֖וֹן (to them) עַד־ (for) זְמַ֥ן (a season) וְעִדָּֽן׃ (and a time).

Daniel’s Vision of the Son of Man

13  חָזֵ֤ה (Looking) הֲוֵית֙ (I was) בְּחֶזְוֵ֣י (in my visions), לֵֽילְיָ֔א (of the night)

וַאֲרוּ֙ (and behold), עִם־ (upon) עֲנָנֵ֣י (the clouds) שְׁמַיָּ֔א (of heaven),

כְּבַ֥ר (One like the Son) אֱנָ֖שׁ (of Man) אָתֵ֣ה (coming) הֲוָ֑ה (was)

וְעַד־ (and to) עַתִּ֤יק (the Ancient) יֽוֹמַיָּא֙ (of Days), מְטָ֔ה (he reached)

וּקְדָמ֖וֹהִי (and before Him) הַקְרְבֽוּהִי׃ (they brought Him near).

14  וְלֵ֨הּ (And to him) יְהִ֤יב (was given) שָׁלְטָן֙ (dominion),

וִיקָ֣ר (and honor), וּמַלְכ֔וּ (and a kingdom),

וְכֹ֣ל (so that all) עַֽמְמַיָּ֗א (the peoples), אֻמַיָּ֛א (nations), וְלִשָּׁנַיָּ֖א (and languages),

לֵ֣הּ (to him) יִפְלְח֑וּן (should give service)

שָׁלְטָנֵ֞הּ (his dominion is) שָׁלְטָ֤ן (a dominion), עָלַם֙ (everlasting)

דִּֽי־ (which) לָ֣א (not) יֶעְדֵּ֔ה (shall pass away),

וּמַלְכוּתֵ֖הּ (and his kingdom)

דִּי־ (is that which) לָ֥א (not) תִתְחַבַּֽל׃פ (shall be destroyed).

Daniel’s Visions Interpreted

15  אֶתְכְּרִיַּ֥ת (Was grieved) רוּחִ֛י (my spirit) אֲנָ֥ה (I) דָנִיֵּ֖אל (Daniel) בְּג֣וֹא (in the midst) נִדְנֶ֑ה (of my body), וְחֶזְוֵ֥י (and the visions) רֵאשִׁ֖י (of my head) יְבַהֲלֻנַּֽנִי׃ (alarmed me). 16  קִרְבֵ֗ת (I came near) עַל־ (to) חַד֙ (one) מִן־ (of) קָ֣אֲמַיָּ֔א (those standing there), וְיַצִּיבָ֥א (and the truth) אֶבְעֵֽא־ (I asked) מִנֵּ֖הּ (of him) עַֽל־ (about) כָּל־ (all) דְּנָ֑ה (this).

וַאֲמַר־ (And he told it) לִ֕י (to me) וּפְשַׁ֥ר (and the interpretation) מִלַּיָּ֖א (of these things) יְהוֹדְעִנַּֽנִי׃ (he made known to me). 17  אִלֵּין֙ (These) חֵיוָתָ֣א (beasts), רַבְרְבָתָ֔א (great) דִּ֥י (of which) אִנִּ֖ין (they are) אַרְבַּ֑ע (four), אַרְבְּעָ֥ה (are four) מַלְכִ֖ין (kings), יְקוּמ֥וּן (who will arise) מִן־ (from) אַרְעָֽא׃ (the earth). 18  וִֽיקַבְּלוּן֙ (And will receive) מַלְכוּתָ֔א (the kingdom), קַדִּישֵׁ֖י (the saints) עֶלְיוֹנִ֑ין (of the Most High) וְיַחְסְנ֤וּן (and they will possess) מַלְכוּתָא֙ (the kingdom) עַֽד־ (unto) עָ֣לְמָ֔א (the age), וְעַ֖ד (and to) עָלַ֥ם (the age) עָלְמַיָּֽא׃ (of Ages).

19  אֱדַ֗יִן (Then) צְבִית֙ (I wished) לְיַצָּבָ֔א (to know) עַל־ (about) חֵֽיוְתָא֙ (the beast), רְבִיעָ֣יְתָ֔א (fourth) דִּֽי־ (which) הֲוָ֥ת (was) שָֽׁנְיָ֖ה (different) מִן־ (from) כָּלְּהוֹן (them all) דְּחִילָ֣ה (fearsome), יַתִּ֗ירָה (exceedingly) שִׁנַּיַּהּ (with its teeth) דִּֽי־ (-) פַרְזֶל֙ (of iron), וְטִפְרַ֣יהּ (and its claws) דִּֽי־ (-) נְחָ֔שׁ (of bronze); אָֽכְלָ֣ה (devouring), מַדֲּקָ֔ה (and breaking into pieces), וּשְׁאָרָ֖א (and the remainder) בְּרַגְלַ֥יהּ (with its feet); רָֽפְסָֽה׃ (trampling). 20  וְעַל־ (And about) קַרְנַיָּ֤א (the horns) עֲשַׂר֙ (ten) דִּ֣י (that were) בְרֵאשַׁ֔הּ (on its head), וְאָחֳרִי֙ (and the other) דִּ֣י (that) סִלְקַ֔ת (came up), וּנְפַלוּ (and how fell); מִן־ (from) קֳדָמַיַּהּ (before it) תְּלָ֑ת (three) וְקַרְנָ֨א (and the horn) דִכֵּ֜ן (this) וְעַיְנִ֣ין (with eyes), לַ֗הּ (unto it) וְפֻם֙ (and a mouth) מְמַלִּ֣ל (speaking) רַבְרְבָ֔ן (great things), וְחֶזְוַ֖הּ (and its appearance) רַ֥ב (greater) מִן־ (than) חַבְרָתַֽהּ׃ (its companions). 21  חָזֵ֣ה (Looking) הֲוֵ֔ית (I was) וְקַרְנָ֣א (and I saw the horn) דִכֵּ֔ן (this) עָבְדָ֥ה (was making) קְרָ֖ב (war) עִם־ (against) קַדִּישִׁ֑ין (the saints), וְיָכְלָ֖ה (and prevailing) לְהֽוֹן׃ (against them). 22  עַ֣ד (Until) דִּֽי־ (that) אֲתָ֗ה (came), עַתִּיק֙ (the Ancient) יֽוֹמַיָּ֔א (of Days) וְדִינָ֣א (and judgment) יְהִ֔ב (was made) לְקַדִּישֵׁ֖י (for the saints) עֶלְיוֹנִ֑ין (of the Most High); וְזִמְנָ֣א (and the time) מְטָ֔ה (was reached) וּמַלְכוּתָ֖א (and for the kingdom) הֶחֱסִ֥נוּ (to possess) קַדִּישִֽׁין׃ (for the saints).

23  כֵּן֮ (Thus) אֲמַר֒ (he said), חֵֽיוְתָא֙ (The beast) רְבִיעָ֣יְתָ֔א (fourth) מַלְכ֤וּ (is a kingdom) רְבִיעָיָא (a fourth) תֶּהֱוֵ֣א (will be) בְאַרְעָ֔א (on the earth), דִּ֥י (which) תִשְׁנֵ֖א (shall be different) מִן־ (from) כָּל־ (all) מַלְכְוָתָ֑א (the kingdoms), וְתֵאכֻל֙ (It will devour) כָּל־ (all) אַרְעָ֔א (the earth), וּתְדוּשִׁנַּ֖הּ (and will trample it), וְתַדְּקִנַּֽהּ׃ (and break it in pieces). 24  וְקַרְנַיָּ֣א (And the horns) עֲשַׂ֔ר (ten) מִנַּהּ֙ (from) מַלְכוּתָ֔ה (the kingdom) עַשְׂרָ֥ה (ten) מַלְכִ֖ין (kings) יְקֻמ֑וּן (will arise); וְאָחֳרָ֞ן (and another) יְק֣וּם (will arise) אַחֲרֵיה֗וֹן (after them) וְה֤וּא (and he) יִשְׁנֵא֙ (will be different) מִן־ (from) קַדְמָיֵ֔א (the former), וּתְלָתָ֥ה (and three) מַלְכִ֖ין (kings) יְהַשְׁפִּֽל׃ (he will bring low). 25  וּמִלִּ֗ין (And words) לְצַ֤ד (against) עִלָּיָא (the Most High), יְמַלִּ֔ל (he will speak) וּלְקַדִּישֵׁ֥י (and the saints) עֶלְיוֹנִ֖ין (of the Most High), יְבַלֵּ֑א (he will wear out) וְיִסְבַּ֗ר (and he will intend) לְהַשְׁנָיָה֙ (to change) זִמְנִ֣ין (the times) וְדָ֔ת (and the law); וְיִתְיַהֲב֣וּן (they will be given) בִּידֵ֔הּ (into his hand) עַד־ (for) עִדָּ֥ן (a time) וְעִדָּנִ֖ין (and times) וּפְלַ֥ג (and half) עִדָּֽן׃ (a time).

26  וְדִינָ֖א (And the judgment) יִתִּ֑ב (will be seated), וְשָׁלְטָנֵ֣הּ (and his dominion), יְהַעְדּ֔וֹן (they will take away) לְהַשְׁמָדָ֥ה (to devastate) וּלְהוֹבָדָ֖ה (and to destroy it) עַד־ (to) סוֹפָֽא׃ (the end). 27  וּמַלְכוּתָ֨ה (And the kingdom) וְשָׁלְטָנָ֜א (and the dominion), וּרְבוּתָ֗א (and the greatness) דִּ֚י (of) מַלְכְוָת֙ (the kingdoms) תְּח֣וֹת (under) כָּל־ (all) שְׁמַיָּ֔א (the heavens), יְהִיבַ֕ת (shall be given) לְעַ֖ם (to the people) קַדִּישֵׁ֣י (of the saints) עֶלְיוֹנִ֑ין (of the Most High), מַלְכוּתֵהּ֙ (His kingdom is) מַלְכ֣וּת (a kingdom for), עָלַ֔ם (everlasting) וְכֹל֙ (and all) שָׁלְטָ֣נַיָּ֔א (dominions) לֵ֥הּ (Him) יִפְלְח֖וּן (will serve) וְיִֽשְׁתַּמְּעֽוּן׃ (and will obey).

28  עַד־ (Even to) כָּ֖ה (this is) סוֹפָ֣א (end the) דִֽי־ (of) מִלְּתָ֑א (the matter). אֲנָ֨ה (I) דָֽנִיֵּ֜אל (Daniel), שַׂגִּ֣יא׀ (greatly) רַעְיוֹנַ֣י (my thoughts) יְבַהֲלֻנַּ֗נִי (troubled me) וְזִיוַי֙ (and my countenance) יִשְׁתַּנּ֣וֹן (changed) עֲלַ֔י (about me) וּמִלְּתָ֖א (and the matter) בְּלִבִּ֥י (in my heart) נִטְרֵֽת׃פ (I kept).
