In the old English sense, means alive, or living. Numbers 16:30 2 Timothy 4:1; and quicken, to make alive. God bestows spiritual life on men dead in trespasses and sins, Ephesians 2:5, through Christ the second Adam, who is a quickening Spirit, 1 1 Corinthians 15:45.
