1Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, brothers, 1Ἐρωτῶμεν δὲ ὑμᾶς ἀδελφοί ὑπὲρ τῆς παρουσίας τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ ἡμῶν ἐπισυναγωγῆς ἐπ’ αὐτόν
2not to be easily disconcerted [or] alarmed by [any] spirit [or] message [or] letter presuming [to be] from us [and alleging] that the day of the Lord has already come. 2εἰς τὸ μὴ ταχέως σαλευθῆναι ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ τοῦ νοὸς μηδὲ θροεῖσθαι μήτε διὰ πνεύματος μήτε διὰ λόγου μήτε δι’ ἐπιστολῆς ὡς δι’ ἡμῶν ὡς ὅτι ἐνέστηκεν ἡ ἡμέρα τοῦ Κυρίου
3{Let} no one deceive you in [any] way, for [ it will not come ] until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness (the son of destruction) is revealed. 3μή τις ὑμᾶς ἐξαπατήσῃ κατὰ μηδένα τρόπον ὅτι ἐὰν μὴ ἔλθῃ ἡ ἀποστασία πρῶτον καὶ ἀποκαλυφθῇ ὁ ἄνθρωπος τῆς ἀνομίας ὁ υἱὸς τῆς ἀπωλείας
4[He] will oppose and exalt himself above every so-called god or object of worship. So he will seat himself in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. 4ὁ ἀντικείμενος καὶ ὑπεραιρόμενος ἐπὶ πάντα λεγόμενον Θεὸν ἢ σέβασμα ὥστε αὐτὸν εἰς τὸν ναὸν τοῦ Θεοῦ καθίσαι ἀποδεικνύντα ἑαυτὸν ὅτι ἔστιν Θεός
5Do you not remember that I told you these things while I was still with you? 5Οὐ μνημονεύετε ὅτι ἔτι ὢν πρὸς ὑμᾶς ταῦτα ἔλεγον ὑμῖν
6And you know what is now restraining him, so that he will be revealed at the proper time. 6καὶ νῦν τὸ κατέχον οἴδατε εἰς τὸ ἀποκαλυφθῆναι αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ ἑαυτοῦ* καιρῷ
7For the mystery of lawlessness {is} already at work, but the [one who] now restrains [it] [will continue] until he is taken out of [the] way. 7τὸ γὰρ μυστήριον ἤδη ἐνεργεῖται τῆς ἀνομίας μόνον ὁ κατέχων ἄρτι ἕως ἐκ μέσου γένηται
8And then the lawless [one] will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of His mouth and abolish by the majesty of His arrival. 8καὶ τότε ἀποκαλυφθήσεται ὁ ἄνομος ὃν ὁ Κύριος Ἰησοῦς ἀνελεῖ τῷ πνεύματι τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ καὶ καταργήσει τῇ ἐπιφανείᾳ τῆς παρουσίας αὐτοῦ
9The coming [of the lawless one] will be accompanied by [the] working of Satan, with every kind of power, sign, and FALSE wonder, 9οὗ ἐστιν ἡ παρουσία κατ’ ἐνέργειαν τοῦ Σατανᾶ ἐν πάσῃ δυνάμει καὶ σημείοις καὶ τέρασιν ψεύδους
10and with every wicked deception directed against those who are perishing, because they refused the love of the truth that would have saved them. 10καὶ ἐν πάσῃ ἀπάτῃ ἀδικίας τοῖς ἀπολλυμένοις ἀνθ’ ὧν τὴν ἀγάπην τῆς ἀληθείας οὐκ ἐδέξαντο εἰς τὸ σωθῆναι αὐτούς
11For this reason, God will send them a powerful delusion so that they will believe [the] lie, 11καὶ διὰ τοῦτο πέμπει αὐτοῖς ὁ Θεὸς ἐνέργειαν πλάνης εἰς τὸ πιστεῦσαι αὐτοὺς τῷ ψεύδει
12in order that judgment will come upon all who have disbelieved the truth [and] delighted in wickedness. 12ἵνα κριθῶσιν πάντες οἱ μὴ πιστεύσαντες τῇ ἀληθείᾳ ἀλλὰ εὐδοκήσαντες τῇ ἀδικίᾳ
13But we should always thank God for you, brothers who are loved by [the] Lord, because God has chosen you from [the] beginning to be saved by [the] sanctification of [the] Spirit and [by] faith in [the] truth. 13Ἡμεῖς δὲ ὀφείλομεν εὐχαριστεῖν τῷ Θεῷ πάντοτε περὶ ὑμῶν ἀδελφοὶ ἠγαπημένοι ὑπὸ Κυρίου ὅτι εἵλατο ὑμᾶς ὁ Θεὸς ἀπ᾽‿ ἀρχῆς εἰς σωτηρίαν ἐν ἁγιασμῷ Πνεύματος καὶ πίστει ἀληθείας
14To this He called you through our gospel, so that you may share in [the] glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 14εἰς ὃ καὶ ἐκάλεσεν ὑμᾶς διὰ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου ἡμῶν εἰς περιποίησιν δόξης τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
15Therefore, brothers, stand firm and cling to the traditions we taught you, whether by speech or by letter. 15Ἄρα οὖν ἀδελφοί στήκετε καὶ κρατεῖτε τὰς παραδόσεις ἃς ἐδιδάχθητε εἴτε διὰ λόγου εἴτε δι’ ἐπιστολῆς ἡμῶν
16Now {may} our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father, who by grace has loved us and given [us] eternal comfort and good hope, 16Αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ Κύριος ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς καὶ ὁ Θεὸς ὁ Πατὴρ ἡμῶν ὁ ἀγαπήσας ἡμᾶς καὶ δοὺς παράκλησιν αἰωνίαν καὶ ἐλπίδα ἀγαθὴν ἐν χάριτι
17encourage your hearts and strengthen [you] in every good word and deed. 17παρακαλέσαι ὑμῶν τὰς καρδίας καὶ στηρίξαι ἐν παντὶ ἔργῳ καὶ λόγῳ ἀγαθῷ
