1	It was two days before the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a cunning way to arrest Jesus and kill him.	It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him,	Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him.
2	“Not during the festival,” they said, “so that there won’t be a riot among the people.”	for they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar from the people.”	“But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.”
3	While he was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at the table, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured it on his head.	And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. 5	For this perfume might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.” And they began to scold her.	For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.” And they scolded her.	It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.
6	Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a noble thing for me.	But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.	“Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.
7	You always have the poor with you, and you can do what is good for them whenever you want, but you do not always have me. 21	For the Son of Man will go just as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! 31	But he kept insisting, “If I have to die with you, I will never deny you.” And they all said the same thing. But Peter insisted emphatically, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the others said the same.

43	While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, suddenly arrived. With him was a mob, with swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders.	And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.	Just as he was speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, appeared. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders.
44	His betrayer had given them a signal. “The one I kiss,” he said, “he’s the one; arrest him and take him away under guard.”	Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man. Seize him and lead him away under guard.”	Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard.”
45	So when he came, immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Rabbi! ” and kissed him.	And when he came, he went up to him at once and said, “Rabbi!” And he kissed him.	Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him.
46	They took hold of him and arrested him.	And they laid hands on him and seized him.	The men seized Jesus and arrested him.
47	One of those who stood by drew his sword, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his ear.	But one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.	Then one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
48	Jesus said to them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs, as if I were a criminal, to capture me? 49	Every day I was among you, teaching in the temple, and you didn’t arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”	Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. 50	Then they all deserted him and ran away.	And they all left him and fled.	Then everyone deserted him and fled.

60	Then the high priest stood up before them all and questioned Jesus, “Don’t you have an answer to what these men are testifying against you? ”	And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”	Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?”
61	But he kept silent and did not answer. Again the high priest questioned him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One? ”	But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?”	But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”
62	“I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”	And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”	“I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
63	Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “Why do we still need witnesses?	And the high priest tore his garments and said, “What further witnesses do we need?	The high priest tore his clothes. “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked.
64	You have heard the blasphemy. What is your decision? ” They all condemned him as deserving death.	You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?” And they all condemned him as deserving death.	“You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?” They all condemned him as worthy of death.
65	Then some began to spit on him, to blindfold him, and to beat him, saying, “Prophesy! ” The temple servants also took him and slapped him. Then some began to spit at him; they blindfolded him, struck him with their fists, and said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.

68	But he denied it: “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about.” Then he went out to the entryway, and a rooster crowed. But he denied it. “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,” he said, and went out into the entryway.
69	When the maidservant saw him again, she began to tell those standing nearby, “This man is one of them.”	And the servant girl saw him and began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.”	When the servant girl saw him there, she said again to those standing around, “This fellow is one of them.”
70	But again he denied it. After a little while those standing there said to Peter again, “You certainly are one of them, since you’re also a Galilean.”	But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, “Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”	Again he denied it. After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”
71	Then he started to curse and swear, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about! ”	But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak.”	He began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about.”
72	Immediately a rooster crowed a second time, and Peter remembered when Jesus had spoken the word to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.	And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.	Immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice you will disown me three times.” And he broke down and wept.
