Then Job answered: Then Job answered and said: Then Job answered and said, Then Job responded, Then Job replied:
“How long will you torment me and crush me with your words? “How long will you torment me and break me in pieces with words? How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words? “How long will you torment me And crush me with words? “How long will you torment me and crush me with words?
Ten times now you have reproached me; you shamelessly mistreat me. These ten times you have cast reproach upon me; are you not ashamed to wrong me? These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me. “These ten times you have insulted me; You are not ashamed to wrong me. Ten times now you have reproached me; shamelessly you attack me.
Even if I have truly gone astray, my error concerns me alone. And even if it be true that I have erred, my error remains with myself. And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself. “Even if I have truly done wrong, My error stays with me. If it is true that I have gone astray, my error remains my concern alone.
If indeed you would exalt yourselves above me and use my disgrace against me, If indeed you magnify yourselves against me and make my disgrace an argument against me, If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach: “If indeed you exalt yourselves against me And prove my disgrace to me, If indeed you would exalt yourselves above me and use my humiliation against me,
then understand that it is God who has wronged me and drawn His net around me. know then that God has put me in the wrong and closed his net about me. Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net. Know then that God has wronged me And has surrounded me with His net. then know that God has wronged me and drawn his net around me.
Though I cry out, ‘Violence!’ I get no response; though I call for help, there is no justice. Behold, I cry out, ‘Violence!’ but I am not answered; I call for help, but there is no justice. Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment. “Behold, I cry, ‘Violence!’ but I get no answer; I shout for help, but there is no justice. “Though I cry, ‘Violence!’ I get no response; though I call for help, there is no justice.
He has blocked my way so I cannot pass; He has veiled my paths with darkness. He has walled up my way, so that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness upon my paths. He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths. “He has blocked my way so that I cannot pass, And He has put darkness on my paths. He has blocked my way so I cannot pass; he has shrouded my paths in darkness.
He has stripped me of my honor and removed the crown from my head. He has stripped from me my glory and taken the crown from my head. He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head. “He has stripped my honor from me And removed the crown from my head. He has stripped me of my honor and removed the crown from my head.
He tears me down on every side until I am gone; He uproots my hope like a tree. He breaks me down on every side, and I am gone, and my hope has he pulled up like a tree. He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree. “He breaks me down on every side, and I am gone; And He has uprooted my hope like a tree. He tears me down on every side till I am gone; he uproots my hope like a tree.
His anger burns against me, and He counts me among His enemies. He has kindled his wrath against me and counts me as his adversary. He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies. “He has also kindled His anger against me And considered me as His enemy. His anger burns against me; he counts me among his enemies.
His troops advance together; they construct a ramp against me and encamp around my tent. His troops come on together; they have cast up their siege ramp against me and encamp around my tent. His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle. “His troops come together And build up their way against me And camp around my tent. His troops advance in force; they build a siege ramp against me and encamp around my tent.
He has removed my brothers from me; my acquaintances have abandoned me. “He has put my brothers far from me, and those who knew me are wholly estranged from me. He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me. “He has removed my brothers far from me, And my acquaintances have completely turned away from me. “He has alienated my family from me; my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.
My kinsmen have failed me, and my friends have forgotten me. My relatives have failed me, my close friends have forgotten me. My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me. “My relatives have failed, And my close friends have forgotten me. My relatives have gone away; my closest friends have forgotten me.
My guests and maidservants count me as a stranger; I am a foreigner in their sight. The guests in my house and my maidservants count me as a stranger; I have become a foreigner in their eyes. They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight. “Those who live in my house and my servant women consider me a stranger. I am a foreigner in their sight. My guests and my female servants count me a foreigner; they look on me as on a stranger.
I call for my servant, but he does not answer, though I implore him with my own mouth. I call to my servant, but he gives me no answer; I must plead with him with my mouth for mercy. I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth. “I call to my servant, but he does not answer; I have to implore his favor with my mouth. I summon my servant, but he does not answer, though I beg him with my own mouth.
My breath is repulsive to my wife, and I am loathsome to my own family. My breath is strange to my wife, and I am a stench to the children of my own mother. My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children's sake of mine own body. “My breath is offensive to my wife, And I am loathsome to my own brothers. My breath is offensive to my wife; I am loathsome to my own family.
Even little boys scorn me; when I appear, they deride me. Even young children despise me; when I rise they talk against me. Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me. “Even young children despise me; I stand up and they speak against me. Even the little boys scorn me; when I appear, they ridicule me.
All my best friends despise me, and those I love have turned against me. All my intimate friends abhor me, and those whom I loved have turned against me. All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me. “All my associates loathe me, And those I love have turned against me. All my intimate friends detest me; those I love have turned against me.
My skin and flesh cling to my bones; I have escaped by the skin of my teeth. My bones stick to my skin and to my flesh, and I have escaped by the skin of my teeth. My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth. “My bone clings to my skin and my flesh, And I have escaped only by the skin of my teeth. I am nothing but skin and bones; I have escaped only by the skin of my teeth.
Have pity on me, my friends, have pity, for the hand of God has struck me. Have mercy on me, have mercy on me, O you my friends, for the hand of God has touched me! Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me. “Pity me, pity me, you friends of mine, For the hand of God has struck me. “Have pity on me, my friends, have pity, for the hand of God has struck me.
Why do you persecute me as God does? Will you never get enough of my flesh? Why do you, like God, pursue me? Why are you not satisfied with my flesh? Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh? “Why do you persecute me as God does, And are not satisfied with my flesh? Why do you pursue me as God does? Will you never get enough of my flesh?
I wish that my words were recorded and inscribed in a book, “Oh that my words were written! Oh that they were inscribed in a book! Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book! “Oh that my words were written! Oh that they were recorded in a book! “Oh, that my words were recorded, that they were written on a scroll,
by an iron stylus on lead, or chiseled in stone forever. Oh that with an iron pen and lead they were engraved in the rock forever! That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever! “That with an iron stylus and lead They were engraved in the rock forever! that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead, or engraved in rock forever!
But I know that my Redeemer lives, and in the end He will stand upon the earth. For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: “Yet as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last, He will take His stand on the earth. I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.
Even after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: “Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I will see God, And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God;
I will see Him for myself; my eyes will behold Him, and not as a stranger. How my heart yearns within me! whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. My heart faints within me! Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me. Whom I, on my part, shall behold for myself, And whom my eyes will see, and not another. My heart faints within me! I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!
If you say, ‘Let us persecute him, since the root of the matter lies with him, If you say, ‘How we will pursue him!’ and, ‘The root of the matter is found in him,’ But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me? “If you say, ‘How shall we persecute him?’ And ‘What pretext for a case against him can we find?’ “If you say, ‘How we will hound him, since the root of the trouble lies in him,’
then you should fear the sword yourselves, because wrath brings punishment by the sword, so that you may know there is a judgment.” be afraid of the sword, for wrath brings the punishment of the sword, that you may know there is a judgment.” Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment. “Then be afraid of the sword for yourselves, For wrath brings the punishment of the sword, So that you may know there is judgment.” you should fear the sword yourselves; for wrath will bring punishment by the sword, and then you will know that there is judgment.”
