He humbles those who dwell on high, he lays the lofty city low; he levels it to the ground and casts it down to the dust. | 5For he has humbled the inhabitants of the height, the lofty city. He lays it low, lays it low to the ground, casts it to the dust. | 5"For He has brought low those who dwell on high, the unassailable city; He lays it low, He lays it low to the ground, He casts it to the dust. | 5For he bringeth down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, he layeth it low; he layeth it low, even to the ground; he bringeth it even to the dust. | 5For He has humbled those who live in lofty places-- an inaccessible city. He brings it down; He brings it down to the ground; He throws it to the dust. |

Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts. | 8In the path of your judgments, O LORD, we wait for you; your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul. | 8Indeed, while following the way of Your judgments, O LORD, We have waited for You eagerly; Your name, even Your memory, is the desire of our souls. | 8Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee. | 8Yes, Yahweh, we wait for You in the path of Your judgments. Our desire is for Your name and renown. |
My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness. | 9My soul yearns for you in the night; my spirit within me earnestly seeks you. For when your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness. | 9At night my soul longs for You, Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently; For when the earth experiences Your judgments The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness. | 9With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness. | 9I long for You in the night; yes, my spirit within me diligently seeks You, for when Your judgments are in the land, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness. |
But when grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and do not regard the majesty of the LORD. | 10If favor is shown to the wicked, he does not learn righteousness; in the land of uprightness he deals corruptly and does not see the majesty of the LORD. | 10Though the wicked is shown favor, He does not learn righteousness; He deals unjustly in the land of uprightness, And does not perceive the majesty of the LORD. | 10Let favour be shewed to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness: in the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD. | 10But if the wicked man is shown favor, he does not learn righteousness. In a righteous land he acts unjustly and does not see the majesty of the LORD. |
LORD, your hand is lifted high, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame; let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them. | 11O LORD, your hand is lifted up, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people, and be ashamed. Let the fire for your adversaries consume them. | 11O LORD, Your hand is lifted up yet they do not see it. They see Your zeal for the people and are put to shame; Indeed, fire will devour Your enemies. | 11LORD, when thy hand is lifted up, they will not see: but they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them. | 11 LORD, Your hand is lifted up to take action, but they do not see it. They will see Your zeal for Your people, and they will be put to shame. The fire for Your adversaries will consume them! |
LORD, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us. | 12O LORD, you will ordain peace for us, for you have indeed done for us all our works. | 12LORD, You will establish peace for us, Since You have also performed for us all our works. | 12LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us. | 12 LORD, You will establish peace for us, for You have also done all our work for us. |
LORD our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but your name alone do we honor. | 13O LORD our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but your name alone we bring to remembrance. | 13O LORD our God, other masters besides You have ruled us; But through You alone we confess Your name. | 13O LORD our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name. | 13Yahweh our God, lords other than You have ruled over us, but we remember Your name alone. |
They are now dead, they live no more; their spirits do not rise. You punished them and brought them to ruin; you wiped out all memory of them. | 14They are dead, they will not live; they are shades, they will not arise; to that end you have visited them with destruction and wiped out all remembrance of them. | 14The dead will not live, the departed spirits will not rise; Therefore You have punished and destroyed them, And You have wiped out all remembrance of them. | 14They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish. | 14The dead do not live; departed spirits do not rise up. Indeed, You have visited and destroyed them; You have wiped out all memory of them. |
You have enlarged the nation, LORD; you have enlarged the nation. You have gained glory for yourself; you have extended all the borders of the land. | 15But you have increased the nation, O LORD, you have increased the nation; you are glorified; you have enlarged all the borders of the land. | 15You have increased the nation, O LORD, You have increased the nation, You are glorified; You have extended all the borders of the land. | 15Thou hast increased the nation, O LORD, thou hast increased the nation: thou art glorified: thou hadst removed it far unto all the ends of the earth. | 15You have added to the nation, LORD. You have added to the nation; You are honored. You have expanded all the borders of the land. |
LORD, they came to you in their distress; when you disciplined them, they could barely whisper a prayer. | 16O LORD, in distress they sought you; they poured out a whispered prayer when your discipline was upon them. | 16O LORD, they sought You in distress; They could only whisper a prayer, Your chastening was upon them. | 16LORD, in trouble have they visited thee, they poured out a prayer when thy chastening was upon them. | 16 LORD, they went to You in their distress; they poured out whispered prayers because Your discipline fell on them. |
As a pregnant woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in your presence, LORD. | 17Like a pregnant woman who writhes and cries out in her pangs when she is near to giving birth, so were we because of you, O LORD; | 17As the pregnant woman approaches the time to give birth, She writhes and cries out in her labor pains, Thus were we before You, O LORD. | 17Like as a woman with child, that draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs; so have we been in thy sight, O LORD. | 17As a pregnant woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pains, so we were before You, LORD. |
We were with child, we writhed in labor, but we gave birth to wind. We have not brought salvation to the earth, and the people of the world have not come to life. | 18we were pregnant, we writhed, but we have given birth to wind. We have accomplished no deliverance in the earth, and the inhabitants of the world have not fallen. | 18We were pregnant, we writhed in labor, We gave birth, as it seems, only to wind. We could not accomplish deliverance for the earth, Nor were inhabitants of the world born. | 18We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have not wrought any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen. | 18We became pregnant, we writhed in pain; we gave birth to wind. We have won no victories on earth, and the earth's inhabitants have not fallen. |
But your dead will live, LORD; their bodies will rise-- let those who dwell in the dust wake up and shout for joy-- your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead. | 19Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise. You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For your dew is a dew of light, and the earth will give birth to the dead. | 19Your dead will live; Their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, For your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits. | 19Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead. | 19Your dead will live; their bodies will rise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust! For you will be covered with the morning dew, and the earth will bring out the departed spirits. |
Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by. | 20Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until the fury has passed by. | 20Come, my people, enter into your rooms And close your doors behind you; Hide for a little while Until indignation runs its course. | 20Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. | 20Go, my people, enter your rooms and close your doors behind you. Hide for a little while until the wrath has passed. |
See, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed on it; the earth will conceal its slain no longer. | 21For behold, the LORD is coming out from his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity, and the earth will disclose the blood shed on it, and will no more cover its slain. | 21For behold, the LORD is about to come out from His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; And the earth will reveal her bloodshed And will no longer cover her slain. | 21For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain. | 21For look, the LORD is coming from His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth will reveal the blood shed on it and will no longer conceal her slain. |
