1 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, The word of the LORD came to me:
2 “As for you, son of man, will you judge her? Will you pass judgment on the city of bloodshed? Then confront her with all her abominations “And you, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Then declare to her all her abominations. Now, thou son of man, wilt thou judge, wilt thou judge the bloody city? yea, thou shalt shew her all her abominations. “And you, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Then inform her of all her abominations. “Son of man, will you judge her? Will you judge this city of bloodshed? Then confront her with all her detestable practices
3 and tell her that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘O city who brings her own doom by shedding blood within her walls and making idols to defile herself, You shall say, Thus says the Lord GOD: A city that sheds blood in her midst, so that her time may come, and that makes idols to defile herself! Then say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD, The city sheddeth blood in the midst of it, that her time may come, and maketh idols against herself to defile herself. And you shall say, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: “A city shedding blood in her midst, so that her time is coming; and <i>a city</i> that makes idols, contrary to her <i>own good,</i> for defilement! and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: You city that brings on herself doom by shedding blood in her midst and defiles herself by making idols,
4 you are guilty of the blood you have shed, and you are defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a close and have come to the end of your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations and a mockery to all the lands. You have become guilty by the blood that you have shed, and defiled by the idols that you have made, and you have brought your days near, the appointed time of your years has come. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mockery to all the countries. Thou art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast shed; and hast defiled thyself in thine idols which thou hast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come <i>even</i> unto thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a mocking to all countries. You have become guilty by the blood which you have shed, and you have become defiled by your idols which you have made. So you have brought your days closer and have come to your years; therefore I have made you a disgrace to the nations, and an object of mocking to all the lands. you have become guilty because of the blood you have shed and have become defiled by the idols you have made. You have brought your days to a close, and the end of your years has come. Therefore I will make you an object of scorn to the nations and a laughingstock to all the countries.
5 Those near and far will mock you, O infamous city, full of turmoil. Those who are near and those who are far from you will mock you; your name is defiled; you are full of tumult. <i>Those that be</i> near, and <i>those that be</i> far from thee, shall mock thee, <i>which art</i> infamous <i>and</i> much vexed. Those who are near and those who are far from you will make fun of you, you of ill repute, full of turmoil. Those who are near and those who are far away will mock you, you infamous city, full of turmoil.
6 See how every prince of Israel within you has used his power to shed blood. “Behold, the princes of Israel in you, every one according to his power, have been bent on shedding blood. Behold, the princes of Israel, every one were in thee to their power to shed blood. “Behold, the rulers of Israel, each according to his power, have been among you for the purpose of shedding blood. “’See how each of the princes of Israel who are in you uses his power to shed blood.
7 Father and mother are treated with contempt. Within your walls the foreign resident is exploited, the fatherless and the widow are oppressed. Father and mother are treated with contempt in you; the sojourner suffers extortion in your midst; the fatherless and the widow are wronged in you. In thee have they set light by father and mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they vexed the fatherless and the widow. They have treated father and mother with contempt among you. They have oppressed the stranger in your midst; they have oppressed the orphan and the widow among you. In you they have treated father and mother with contempt; in you they have oppressed the foreigner and mistreated the fatherless and the widow.
8 You have despised My holy things and profaned My Sabbaths. You have despised my holy things and profaned my Sabbaths. Thou hast despised mine holy things, and hast profaned my sabbaths. 9 Among you are slanderous men bent on bloodshed; within you are those who eat on the mountain shrines and commit acts of indecency. There are men in you who slander to shed blood, and people in you who eat on the mountains; they commit lewdness in your midst. In thee are men that carry tales to shed blood: and in thee they eat upon the mountains: in the midst of thee they commit lewdness. Slanderous men have been among you for the purpose of shedding blood, and among you they have eaten at the mountain <i>shrines.</i> In your midst they have committed outrageous sin. In you are slanderers who are bent on shedding blood; in you are those who eat at the mountain shrines and commit lewd acts.
10 In you they have uncovered the nakedness of their fathers; in you they violate women during their menstrual impurity. In you men uncover their fathers’ nakedness; in you they violate women who are unclean in their menstrual impurity. In thee have they discovered their fathers' nakedness: in thee have they humbled her that was set apart for pollution. Among you they have uncovered <i>their</i> fathers’ nakedness; among you they have abused her who was unclean in her menstruation. In you are those who dishonor their father’s bed; in you are those who violate women during their period, when they are ceremonially unclean.
11 One man commits an abomination with his neighbor’s wife; another wickedly defiles his daughter-in-law; and yet another violates his sister, his own father’s daughter. One commits abomination with his neighbor’s wife; another lewdly defiles his daughter-in-law; another in you violates his sister, his father’s daughter. And one hath committed abomination with his neighbour's wife; and another hath lewdly defiled his daughter in law; and another in thee hath humbled his sister, his father's daughter. And one has committed abomination with his neighbor’s wife, another has outrageously defiled his daughter-in-law, and another among you has <i>sexually</i> abused his sister, his father’s daughter. In you one man commits a detestable offense with his neighbor’s wife, another shamefully defiles his daughter-in-law, and another violates his sister, his own father’s daughter.
12 In you they take bribes to shed blood. You engage in usury, take excess interest, and extort your neighbors. But Me you have forgotten, declares the Lord GOD. In you they take bribes to shed blood; you take interest and profit and make gain of your neighbors by extortion; but me you have forgotten, declares the Lord GOD. In thee have they taken gifts to shed blood; thou hast taken usury and increase, and thou hast greedily gained of thy neighbours by extortion, and hast forgotten me, saith the Lord GOD. Among you they have taken bribes to shed blood; you have taken interest, you have injured your neighbors by oppression, and you have forgotten Me,” declares the Lord GOD. In you are people who accept bribes to shed blood; you take interest and make a profit from the poor. You extort unjust gain from your neighbors. And you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign LORD.
13 Now look, I strike My hands together against your unjust gain and against the blood you have shed in your midst. “Behold, I strike my hand at the dishonest gain that you have made, and at the blood that has been in your midst. Behold, therefore I have smitten mine hand at thy dishonest gain which thou hast made, and at thy blood which hath been in the midst of thee. “Behold, then, I strike with My hand your profit which you have made and the bloodshed which is among you. “’I will surely strike my hands together at the unjust gain you have made and at the blood you have shed in your midst.
14 Will your courage endure or your hands be strong in the day I deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will act. Can your courage endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with you? I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it. Can thine heart endure, or can thine hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with thee? I the LORD have spoken <i>it</i>, and will do <i>it</i>. Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong for the days that I will deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken and will act. Will your courage endure or your hands be strong in the day I deal with you? I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.
15 I will disperse you among the nations and scatter you throughout the lands; I will purge your uncleanness. I will scatter you among the nations and disperse you through the countries, and I will consume your uncleanness out of you. And I will scatter thee among the heathen, and disperse thee in the countries, and will consume thy filthiness out of thee. And I will scatter you among the nations and disperse you among the lands, and I will eliminate your uncleanness from you. I will disperse you among the nations and scatter you through the countries; and I will put an end to your uncleanness.
16 And when you have defiled yourself in the eyes of the nations, then you will know that I am the LORD.’ ” And you shall be profaned by your own doing in the sight of the nations, and you shall know that I am the LORD.” And thou shalt take thine inheritance in thyself in the sight of the heathen, and thou shalt know that I <i>am</i> the LORD. Then you will defile yourself in the sight of the nations, and you will know that I am the LORD.”’” When you have been defiled in the eyes of the nations, you will know that I am the LORD.’”
17 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, And the word of the LORD came to me: And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Then the word of the LORD came to me:
18 “Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me. All of them are copper, tin, iron, and lead inside the furnace; they are but the dross of silver. “Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to me; all of them are bronze and tin and iron and lead in the furnace; they are dross of silver. Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross: all they <i>are</i> brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are <i>even</i> the dross of silver. “Son of man, the house of Israel has become waste metal to Me; all of them are bronze, tin, iron, and lead in the smelting furnace; they are the waste metal of silver. “Son of man, the people of Israel have become dross to me; all of them are the copper, tin, iron and lead left inside a furnace. They are but the dross of silver.
19 Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because all of you have become dross, behold, I will gather you into Jerusalem. Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have all become dross, therefore, behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye are all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because all of you have become waste metal, therefore, behold, I am going to gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: ‘Because you have all become dross, I will gather you into Jerusalem.
20 Just as one gathers silver, copper, iron, lead, and tin into the furnace to melt with a fiery blast, so I will gather you in My anger and wrath, leave you there, and melt you. As one gathers silver and bronze and iron and lead and tin into a furnace, to blow the fire on it in order to melt it, so I will gather you in my anger and in my wrath, and I will put you in and melt you. <i>As</i> they gather silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to melt <i>it</i>; so will I gather <i>you</i> in mine anger and in my fury, and I will leave <i>you there</i>, and melt you. As they gather silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into the smelting furnace to blow fire on it in order to melt <i>it,</i> so I will gather <i>you</i> in My anger and in My wrath, and I will place you <i>there</i> and melt you. As silver, copper, iron, lead and tin are gathered into a furnace to be melted with a fiery blast, so will I gather you in my anger and my wrath and put you inside the city and melt you.
21 Yes, I will gather you together and blow on you with the fire of My wrath, and you will be melted within the city. I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of my wrath, and you shall be melted in the midst of it. Yea, I will gather you, and blow upon you in the fire of my wrath, and ye shall be melted in the midst thereof. And I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of My wrath, and you will be melted in the midst of it. I will gather you and I will blow on you with my fiery wrath, and you will be melted inside her.
22 As silver is melted in a furnace, so you will be melted within the city. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have poured out My wrath upon you.’ ” As silver is melted in a furnace, so you shall be melted in the midst of it, and you shall know that I am the LORD; I have poured out my wrath upon you.” As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall ye be melted in the midst thereof; and ye shall know that I the LORD have poured out my fury upon you. As silver is melted in the furnace, so you will be melted in the midst of it; and you will know that I, the LORD, have poured out My wrath on you.’” As silver is melted in a furnace, so you will be melted inside her, and you will know that I the LORD have poured out my wrath on you.’”
23 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, And the word of the LORD came to me: And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Again the word of the LORD came to me:
24 “Son of man, say to her, ‘In the day of indignation, you are a land that has not been cleansed, upon which no rain has fallen.’ “Son of man, say to her, You are a land that is not cleansed or rained upon in the day of indignation. Son of man, say unto her, Thou <i>art</i> the land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation. “Son of man, say to her, ‘You are a land that is not clean or rained on in the day of indignation.’ “Son of man, say to the land, ‘You are a land that has not been cleansed or rained on in the day of wrath.’
25 The conspiracy of the princes in her midst is like a roaring lion tearing its prey. They devour the people, seize the treasures and precious things, and multiply the widows within her. The conspiracy of her prophets in her midst is like a roaring lion tearing the prey; they have devoured human lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows in her midst. <i>There is</i> a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof. There is a conspiracy of her prophets in her midst like a roaring lion tearing the prey. They have devoured lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows in the midst of her. There is a conspiracy of her princes within her like a roaring lion tearing its prey; they devour people, take treasures and precious things and make many widows within her.
26 Her priests do violence to My law and profane My holy things. They make no distinction between the holy and the common, and they fail to distinguish between the clean and the unclean. They disregard My Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them. Her priests have done violence to my law and have profaned my holy things. They have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they taught the difference between the unclean and the clean, and they have disregarded my Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them. Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed <i>difference</i> between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. 27 Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey, shedding blood, and destroying lives for dishonest gain. Her princes in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, shedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain. Her princes in the midst thereof <i>are</i> like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, <i>and</i> to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. 28 Her prophets whitewash these deeds by false visions and lying divinations, saying, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says,’ when the LORD has not spoken. And her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD,’ when the LORD has not spoken. And her prophets have daubed them with untempered <i>morter</i>, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken. And her prophets have coated with whitewash for them, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says,’ when the LORD has not spoken. Her prophets whitewash these deeds for them by false visions and lying divinations. They say, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says’—when the LORD has not spoken.
29 The people of the land have practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have oppressed the poor and needy and have exploited the foreign resident without justice. And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. I have brought their ways down upon their own heads, declares the Lord GOD.” Therefore I have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have returned their way upon their heads, declares the Lord GOD.” Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD. So I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; I have brought their way upon their heads,” declares the Lord GOD. So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign LORD.”
