1Paul, a slave of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to build up the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness,1Παῦλος δοῦλος Θεοῦ ἀπόστολος δὲ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ κατὰ πίστιν ἐκλεκτῶν Θεοῦ καὶ ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας τῆς κατ’ εὐσέβειαν
2in the hope of eternal life that God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.2ἐπ’ ἐλπίδι ζωῆς αἰωνίου ἣν ἐπηγγείλατο ὁ ἀψευδὴς Θεὸς πρὸ χρόνων αἰωνίων
3In His own time He has revealed His message in the proclamation that I was entrusted with by the command of God our Savior: 3ἐφανέρωσεν δὲ καιροῖς ἰδίοις τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ ἐν κηρύγματι ὃ ἐπιστεύθην ἐγὼ κατ’ ἐπιταγὴν τοῦ Σωτῆρος ἡμῶν Θεοῦ
4To Titus, my true son in our common faith. Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior. 4Τίτῳ γνησίῳ τέκνῳ κατὰ κοινὴν πίστιν Χάρις καὶ εἰρήνη ἀπὸ Θεοῦ Πατρὸς καὶ Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ Σωτῆρος ἡμῶν
5The reason I left you in Crete was to set right what was left undone and, as I directed you, to appoint elders in every town: 5Τούτου χάριν ἀπέλιπόν σε ἐν Κρήτῃ ἵνα τὰ λείποντα ἐπιδιορθώσῃ καὶ καταστήσῃς κατὰ πόλιν πρεσβυτέρους ὡς ἐγώ σοι διεταξάμην
6one who is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of wildness or rebellion. 6εἴ τίς ἐστιν ἀνέγκλητος μιᾶς γυναικὸς ἀνήρ τέκνα ἔχων πιστά μὴ ἐν κατηγορίᾳ ἀσωτίας ἢ ἀνυπότακτα
7For an overseer, as God's administrator, must be blameless, not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not addicted to wine, not a bully, not greedy for money, 7Δεῖ γὰρ τὸν ἐπίσκοπον ἀνέγκλητον εἶναι ὡς Θεοῦ οἰκονόμον μὴ αὐθάδη μὴ ὀργίλον μὴ πάροινον μὴ πλήκτην μὴ αἰσχροκερδῆ
8but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, righteous, holy, self-controlled, 8ἀλλὰ φιλόξενον φιλάγαθον σώφρονα δίκαιον ὅσιον ἐγκρατῆ
9holding to the faithful message as taught, so that he will be able both to encourage with sound teaching and to refute those who contradict it. 9ἀντεχόμενον τοῦ κατὰ τὴν διδαχὴν πιστοῦ λόγου ἵνα δυνατὸς ᾖ καὶ παρακαλεῖν ἐν τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ τῇ ὑγιαινούσῃ καὶ τοὺς ἀντιλέγοντας ἐλέγχειν
10For there are also many rebellious people, full of empty talk and deception, especially those from Judaism.10Εἰσὶν γὰρ πολλοὶ ‹καὶ› ἀνυπότακτοι ματαιολόγοι καὶ φρεναπάται μάλιστα οἱ ἐκ τῆς περιτομῆς
11It is necessary to silence them; they overthrow whole households by teaching what they shouldn't in order to get money dishonestly. 11οὓς δεῖ ἐπιστομίζειν οἵτινες ὅλους οἴκους ἀνατρέπουσιν διδάσκοντες ἃ μὴ δεῖ αἰσχροῦ κέρδους χάριν
12One of their very own prophets said, Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons. 12εἶπέν τις ἐξ αὐτῶν ἴδιος αὐτῶν προφήτης Κρῆτες ἀεὶ ψεῦσται κακὰ θηρία γαστέρες ἀργαί
13This testimony is true. So, rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith13Ἡ μαρτυρία αὕτη ἐστὶν ἀληθής δι’ ἣν αἰτίαν ἔλεγχε αὐτοὺς ἀποτόμως ἵνα ὑγιαίνωσιν ἐν τῇ πίστει
14and may not pay attention to Jewish myths and the commands of men who reject the truth. 14μὴ προσέχοντες Ἰουδαϊκοῖς μύθοις καὶ ἐντολαῖς ἀνθρώπων ἀποστρεφομένων τὴν ἀλήθειαν
15To the pure, everything is pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; in fact, both their mind and conscience are defiled. 15Πάντα καθαρὰ τοῖς καθαροῖς τοῖς δὲ μεμιαμμένοις καὶ ἀπίστοις οὐδὲν καθαρόν ἀλλὰ μεμίανται αὐτῶν καὶ ὁ νοῦς καὶ ἡ συνείδησις
16They profess to know God, but they deny Him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, and disqualified for any good work. 16Θεὸν ὁμολογοῦσιν εἰδέναι τοῖς δὲ ἔργοις ἀρνοῦνται βδελυκτοὶ ὄντες καὶ ἀπειθεῖς καὶ πρὸς πᾶν ἔργον ἀγαθὸν ἀδόκιμοι
