1	In these times, the myriads of the crowd having been gathered together so as to trample upon one another, He began to say to His disciples first, “Take heed to yourselves of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.	In the meantime, when so many thousands of the people had gathered together that they were trampling one another, he began to say to his disciples first, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.	Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying: “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
2	And nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.	Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.	There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.
3	Instead, whatever you⁺ said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and what you⁺ spoke to the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops.	Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.	What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.
4	And I say to you⁺, My friends, you⁺ should not be afraid of those killing the body and after these things not having anything more to do.	“I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do.	“I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more.
5	But I will show you⁺ whom you⁺ should fear: Fear the One having authority, after the killing, to cast into Gehenna. Yes, I say to you⁺, fear Him!	But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him!	But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.
6	Are not five sparrows sold for two assaria? And not one of them is forgotten before God.	Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God.	Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.
7	But even the hairs of your⁺ head have all been numbered. Do not be afraid; you⁺ are more valuable than many sparrows.	Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.	Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
8	And I say to you⁺, everyone who will confess in Me before men, the Son of Man also will confess in him before the angels of God.	“And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God,	“I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God.
9	But the one having denied Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.	but the one who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God.	But whoever disowns me before others will be disowned before the angels of God.
10	And everyone who will speak a word to the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but the one having blasphemed to the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.	And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.	And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
11	And when they bring you⁺ in before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how or what you⁺ may reply in defense, or what you⁺ may say.	And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say,	“When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say,
12	For the Holy Spirit will teach you⁺ in the same hour what it is necessary to say.”	for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”	for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”
13	And one from the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide with me the inheritance.”	Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”	Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
14	And He said to him, “Man, who appointed Me a judge or divider over you⁺?”	But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?”	Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?”
15	And He said to them, “Beware, and keep yourselves from all covetousness, because not to anyone is his life in the abundance of that which he possesses.”	And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”	Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
16	And He spoke a parable to them, saying, “The ground of a certain rich man brought forth abundantly.	And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully,	And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest.
17	And he was reasoning within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, because I have nowhere I will store up my fruits?’	and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’	He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’
18	And he said, ‘This I will do: I will tear down my barns and will build larger ones, and I will gather there all my grain and goods.	And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.	“Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain.
19	And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many good things laid up for many years; take your rest, eat, drink, be merry.”’	And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’	And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.\|’
20	And God said to him, ‘Fool! This night, your soul is required of you; but what you prepared—to whom will it be?’	But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’	“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
21	So is the one treasuring up for himself and not being rich toward God.”	So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”	“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”
22	And He said to His disciples, “Because of this I say to you⁺, do not be anxious for life, what you⁺ may eat, nor for your⁺ body, what you⁺ might put on.	And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on.	Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.
23	For life is more than food, and the body than clothing.	For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.	For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.
24	Consider the ravens, that they do not sow nor reap; unto them there is not a storehouse nor a barn—and God feeds them. How much more valuable are you⁺ than the birds!	Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!	Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!
25	And who of you⁺, being anxious, is able to add to his lifespan a cubit?	And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?	Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?
26	If, then, you⁺ are not even able to do the least, why are you⁺ anxious about the rest?	If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest?	Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
27	Consider the lilies, how they grow: They do not labor, nor do they spin. Yet I say to you⁺, not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these.	Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.	“Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
28	But if God thus clothes the grass in the field, being here today and tomorrow being thrown into the furnace, how much more you⁺, O little of faith!	But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!	If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith!
29	And you⁺, do not seek what you⁺ might eat and what you⁺ might drink, and do not be in suspense;	And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried.	And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it.
30	for all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your⁺ Father knows that you⁺ have need of these.	For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them.	For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them.
31	But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you⁺.	Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you.	But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
32	Do not fear, little flock, because your⁺ Father was well pleased to give you⁺ the kingdom.	“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.	“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.
33	Sell your⁺ possessions and give alms; make for yourselves purses not growing old, an unfailing treasure in the heavens, where thief does not draw near, nor does moth destroy.	Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.	Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.
34	For where your⁺ treasure is, there also your⁺ heart will be.	For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.	For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
35	Let your⁺ loins be girded around and the lamps burning,	“Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning,	“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning,
36	and you⁺ be like men waiting for their master when he shall return from the wedding feasts, that, having come and having knocked, immediately they might open to him.	and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks.	like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him.
37	Blessed are those servants whom, having come, the master will find watching. Truly I say to you⁺ that he will gird himself and will make them recline, and having come up, will serve them.	Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them.	It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them.
38	And if he should come in the second, and if in the third watch, and he finds thus, blessed are those.	If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants!	It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or toward daybreak.
39	But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief comes, he would not have permitted his house to be broken into.	But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into.	But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.
40	And you⁺, be ready, because the Son of Man comes in that hour you⁺ do not think.”	You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”	You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
41	And Peter said, “Lord, do You say this parable to us, or also to all?”	Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?”	Peter asked, “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?”
42	And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful, wise manager, whom the master will set over the care of his, to give in season the grain measure?	And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time?	The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time?
43	Blessed is that servant whom his master, having come, will find doing so.	Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.	It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns.
44	Truly I say to you⁺ that he will set him over all his possessions.	Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions.	Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.
45	But if that servant should say in his heart, ‘My master delays to come,’ and should begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and to drink and to get drunk,	But if that servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed in coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk,	But suppose the servant says to himself, ‘My master is taking a long time in coming,’ and he then begins to beat the other servants, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk.
46	the master of that servant will come in a day that he does not expect and in an hour that he does not know, and he will cut him in two and will appoint his portion with the unbelievers.	the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful.	The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.
47	Now that servant, the one having known the will of his master and not having prepared nor having done according to his will, he will be beaten with many.	And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating.	“The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows.
48	But the one not having known but having done things worthy of stripes will be beaten with few. And of everyone to whom much was given, much will be required; and from him to whom much was committed, more will they ask of him.	But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.	But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
49	I came to cast fire upon the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!	“I came to cast fire on the earth, and would that it were already kindled!	“I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!
50	But I have a baptism with which to be baptized, and how distressed I am until it should be accomplished!	I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great is my distress until it is accomplished!	But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed!
51	Do you⁺ think that I came to grant peace on the earth? No, I say to you⁺, but rather division.	Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.	Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.
52	For from now there will be five in one house divided, three against two and two against three.	For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three.	From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three.
53	They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against the daughter and daughter against the mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against the mother-in-law.”	They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”	They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
54	And He was also saying to the crowds, “When you⁺ see the cloud rising up in the west, immediately you⁺ say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and so it happens.	He also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A shower is coming.’ And so it happens.	He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does.
55	And when a south wind is blowing, you⁺ say, ‘There will be heat,’ and it happens.	And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat,’ and it happens.	And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is.
56	Hypocrites! The face of the earth and of the sky you⁺ know to discern, but how do you⁺ not know to discern this time?	You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?	Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?
57	And why do you⁺ not even judge for yourselves what is right?	“And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?	“Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?
58	For as you are going with your adversary before a ruler, give effort to be set free from him in the way, lest ever he should drag you away to the judge, and the judge will deliver you to the officer, and the officer will cast you into prison.	As you go with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer put you in prison.	As you are going with your adversary to the magistrate, try hard to be reconciled on the way, or your adversary may drag you off to the judge, and the judge turn you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.
59	I say to you, you shall never come out from there until you should pay back even the last lepton.”	I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the very last penny.”	I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”
