1	Assoone as the Lord knew, how the pharisees had heard that Iesus made and baptized mo disciples then Iohn,	Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John	Now Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that he was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John—
2	(Though that Iesus hym selfe baptized not, but his disciples:)	(although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples),	although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but his disciples.
3	He left Iurie, and departed agayne into Galilee.	he left Judea and departed again for Galilee.	So he left Judea and went back once more to Galilee.
4	For it was so that he must needes go through Samaria.	And he had to pass through Samaria.	Now he had to go through Samaria.
5	Then came he to a citie of Samaria, which is called Sichar, besydes the possession that Iacob gaue to his sonne Ioseph.	So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.	So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph.
6	And there was Iacobs well. Iesus then beyng wery of his iourney, sate thus on the well. And it was about the sixt houre:	Jacob’s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.	Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.
7	And there came a woman of Samaria to drawe water: Iesus sayth vnto her, geue me drynke.	A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.”	When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?”
8	For his disciples were gone away, vnto the towne to bye meate.	(For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.)	(His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)
9	Then sayth the woman of Samaria vnto hym: Howe is it, that thou beyng a Iewe, askest drynke of me, which am a Samaritane? For the Iewes meddle not with the Samaritanes.	The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)	The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)
10	Iesus aunswered, and sayde vnto her: yf thou knewest the gyft of God, & who it is that sayeth to thee geue me drynke, thou wouldest haue asked of hym, and he woulde haue geuen thee water of lyfe.	Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”	Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
11	The woman sayth vnto hym: Syr, thou hast nothyng to drawe with, and the well is deepe: from whence then hast thou that water of lyfe?	The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water?	“Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?
12	Art thou greater then our father Iacob, which gaue vs the well, and he hym selfe dranke therof, and his chyldren, and his cattell?	Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.”	Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”
13	Iesus aunswered, and sayde vnto her: Whosoeuer drynketh of this water, shal thyrst agayne:	Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again,	Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
14	But whosoeuer drynketh of the water that I shall geue hym, shall neuer be more a thyrst: but the water that I shall geue him, shalbe in him a well of water, spryngyng vp into euerlastyng lyfe.	but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”	but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
15	The woman sayth vnto hym: Syr, geue me of that water, that I thyrst not, neither come hyther to drawe.	The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”	The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
16	Iesus sayth vnto her: Go, call thy husbande, and come hyther.	Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”	He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”
17	The woman aunswered, and sayde vnto hym : I haue no husbande. Iesus sayde vnto her: Thou hast well sayde, I haue no husbande.	The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’;	“I have no husband,” she replied. Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband.
18	For thou hast had fyue husbandes, and he whom thou now hast, is not thy husbande. In that saydest thou truely.	for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.”	The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”
19	The woman sayth vnto hym: Syr, I perceaue that thou art a prophete.	The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.	“Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet.
20	Our fathers worshipped in this mountayne, and ye say that in Hierusalem is the place, where men ought to worshippe.	Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.”	Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”
21	Iesus sayth vnto her: woman beleue me, the houre commeth, when ye shall neither in this mountayne, nor yet at Hierusalem, worshippe the father.	Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.	“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.
22	Ye worshippe ye wote not what. We knowe what we worshippe: For saluation commeth of the Iewes.	You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.	You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.
23	But the houre commeth, and nowe is, when the true worshippers, shall worshippe the father in spirite, and in the trueth: For such the father also requireth to worshippe hym.	But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.	Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
24	God is a spirite, and they that worshippe hym, must worshippe hym in spirite, and in the trueth.	God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”	God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
25	The woman sayth vnto hym, I wote that Messias shal come, which is called Christe: when he is come, he wyll tell vs all thynges.	The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.”	The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26	Iesus sayth vnto her: I that speake vnto thee, am he.	Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”	Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”
27	And immediatly came his disciples, and marueyled that he talked with the woman: Yet no man saide, what seekest thou, or why talkest thou with her?	Just then his disciples came back. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you seek?” or, “Why are you talking with her?”	Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, “What do you want?” or “Why are you talking with her?”
28	The woman then left her water pot, and went her way into the citie, & sayth to the men:	So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people,	Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people,
29	Come, see a man which tolde me all thynges that euer I dyd: Is not he Christe?	“Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?”	“Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?”
30	Then they went out of the citie, and came vnto hym.	They went out of the town and were coming to him.	They came out of the town and made their way toward him.
31	In the meane whyle his disciples prayed hym, saying: Maister, eate.	Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”	Meanwhile his disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat something.”
32	He sayde vnto them: I haue meate to eate that ye wote not of.	But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”	But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”
33	Therfore sayde the disciples among them selues: Hath any man brought hym ought to eate?	So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?”	Then his disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him food?”
34	Iesus sayth vnto them: my meate is to do the wyll of hym that sent me, and to finishe his worke.	Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.	“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
35	Say not ye, there are yet foure monethes, and then commeth haruest? Beholde, I say vnto you, lyft vp your eyes, and loke on the regions: for they are whyte alredy vnto haruest.	Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.	Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.
36	And he that reapeth, receaueth wages, and gathereth fruite vnto lyfe eternall: that both he that soweth, & he that reapeth, myght reioyce together.	Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together.	Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together.
37	And herein is the saying true, that one soweth, and another reapeth.	For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’	Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true.
38	I sent you to reape that, wheron ye bestowed no labour. Other men laboured, and ye are entred into their labours.	I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”	I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”
39	Many of the Samaritanes of that citie beleued on hym, for the saying of the woman, which testified that he tolde her all that euer she dyd.	Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.”	Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.”
40	So, when the Samaritanes were come vnto hym, they besought hym that he would tary with them: And he abode there two dayes.	So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days.	So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days.
41	And many mo beleued, because of his owne worde,	And many more believed because of his word.	And because of his words many more became believers.
42	And sayde vnto the woman: Nowe we beleue, not because of thy saying: for we haue heard him our selues, & know that this is euen Christe, the sauiour of the worlde.	They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”	They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”
43	After two dayes he departed thence, and went away into Galilee.	After the two days he departed for Galilee.	After the two days he left for Galilee.
44	For Iesus hym selfe testified, that a prophete hath none honour in his owne countrey.	(For Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.)	(Now Jesus himself had pointed out that a prophet has no honor in his own country.)
45	Then, assoone as he was come into Galilee, the Galileans receaued hym, when they had seene all the thynges that he dyd at Hierusalem, at the day of the feast. For they went also vnto the feast day.	So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast. For they too had gone to the feast.	When he arrived in Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him. They had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, for they also had been there.
46	So Iesus came agayne into Cana of Galilee, where he turned the water into wyne. And there was a certayne ruler, whose sonne was sicke at Capernaum.	So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill.	Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum.
47	Assoone as the same hearde that Iesus was come out of Iurie into Galilee, he went vnto hym, and besought hym that he woulde come downe, and heale his sonne: For he was euen at the poynt of death.	When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.	When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death.
48	Then sayde Iesus vnto hym: except ye see signes and wonders, ye wyll not beleue.	So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.”	“Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”
49	The ruler sayth vnto hym: Syr, come downe or euer that my sonne dye.	The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”	The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
50	Iesus sayth vnto hym: Go thy way, thy sonne lyueth. The man beleued the worde that Iesus had spoken vnto hym, and he went his way.	Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way.	“Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed.
51	And as he was nowe goyng downe, the seruauntes met hym, and tolde him, saying, thy sonne lyueth.	As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering.	While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living.
52	Then enquired he of them the houre, when he began to amende. And they sayde vnto hym: Yesterday at the seuenth houre, the feuer left hym.	So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”	When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”
53	So the father knewe, that it was the same houre, in the which Iesus sayde vnto hym thy sonne lyueth: And he beleued, and all his householde.	The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, and all his household.	Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.
54	This is agayne the seconde miracle, that Iesus dyd, when he was come out of Iurie into Galilee.	This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.	This was the second sign Jesus performed after coming from Judea to Galilee.
