New Living TranslationKing James Bible
Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.1O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.
Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds.2Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.
Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the LORD.3Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him.4Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.
Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given,5Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
you children of his servant Abraham, you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones.6O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.
He is the LORD our God. His justice is seen throughout the land.7He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth.
He always stands by his covenant— the commitment he made to a thousand generations.8He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.
This is the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac.9Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac;
He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, and to the people of Israel as a never-ending covenant:10And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant:
“I will give you the land of Canaan as your special possession.”11Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:
He said this when they were few in number, a tiny group of strangers in Canaan.12When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.
They wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.13When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people;
Yet he did not let anyone oppress them. He warned kings on their behalf:14He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;
“Do not touch my chosen people, and do not hurt my prophets.”15Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
He called for a famine on the land of Canaan, cutting off its food supply.16Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread.
Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them— Joseph, who was sold as a slave.17He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:
They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar.18Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:
Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the LORD tested Joseph’s character.19Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.
Then Pharaoh sent for him and set him free; the ruler of the nation opened his prison door.20The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.
Joseph was put in charge of all the king’s household; he became ruler over all the king’s possessions.21He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance:
He could instruct the king’s aides as he pleased and teach the king’s advisers.22To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.
Then Israel arrived in Egypt; Jacob lived as a foreigner in the land of Ham.23Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.
And the LORD multiplied the people of Israel until they became too mighty for their enemies.24And he increased his people greatly; and made them stronger than their enemies.
Then he turned the Egyptians against the Israelites, and they plotted against the LORD’s servants.25He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants.
But the LORD sent his servant Moses, along with Aaron, whom he had chosen.26He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen.
They performed miraculous signs among the Egyptians, and wonders in the land of Ham.27They shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.
The LORD blanketed Egypt in darkness, for they had defied his commands to let his people go.28He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they rebelled not against his word.
He turned their water into blood, poisoning all the fish.29He turned their waters into blood, and slew their fish.
Then frogs overran the land and even invaded the king’s bedrooms.30Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, in the chambers of their kings.
When the LORD spoke, flies descended on the Egyptians, and gnats swarmed across Egypt.31He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, and lice in all their coasts.
He sent them hail instead of rain, and lightning flashed over the land.32He gave them hail for rain, and flaming fire in their land.
He ruined their grapevines and fig trees and shattered all the trees.33He smote their vines also and their fig trees; and brake the trees of their coasts.
He spoke, and hordes of locusts came— young locusts beyond number.34He spake, and the locusts came, and caterpillers, and that without number,
They ate up everything green in the land, destroying all the crops in their fields.35And did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground.
Then he killed the oldest son in each Egyptian home, the pride and joy of each family.36He smote also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength.
The LORD brought his people out of Egypt, loaded with silver and gold; and not one among the tribes of Israel even stumbled.37He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.
Egypt was glad when they were gone, for they feared them greatly.38Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them.
The LORD spread a cloud above them as a covering and gave them a great fire to light the darkness.39He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night.
They asked for meat, and he sent them quail; he satisfied their hunger with manna—bread from heaven.40The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
He split open a rock, and water gushed out to form a river through the dry wasteland.41He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.
For he remembered his sacred promise to his servant Abraham.42For he remembered his holy promise, and Abraham his servant.
So he brought his people out of Egypt with joy, his chosen ones with rejoicing.43And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness:
He gave his people the lands of pagan nations, and they harvested crops that others had planted.44And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people;
All this happened so they would follow his decrees and obey his instructions. Praise the LORD!45That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise ye the LORD.
