New Living Translation | King James Bible |
Let all that I am praise the LORD. O LORD my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty. | 1Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty. |
You are dressed in a robe of light. You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens; | 2Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: |
you lay out the rafters of your home in the rain clouds. You make the clouds your chariot; you ride upon the wings of the wind. | 3Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind: |
The winds are your messengers; flames of fire are your servants. | 4Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire: |
You placed the world on its foundation so it would never be moved. | 5Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever. |
You clothed the earth with floods of water, water that covered even the mountains. | 6Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains. |
At your command, the water fled; at the sound of your thunder, it hurried away. | 7At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. |
Mountains rose and valleys sank to the levels you decreed. | 8They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them. |
Then you set a firm boundary for the seas, so they would never again cover the earth. | 9Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth. |
You make springs pour water into the ravines, so streams gush down from the mountains. | 10He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills. |
They provide water for all the animals, and the wild donkeys quench their thirst. | 11They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst. |
The birds nest beside the streams and sing among the branches of the trees. | 12By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches. |
You send rain on the mountains from your heavenly home, and you fill the earth with the fruit of your labor. | 13He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works. |
You cause grass to grow for the livestock and plants for people to use. You allow them to produce food from the earth— | 14He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; |
wine to make them glad, olive oil to soothe their skin, and bread to give them strength. | 15And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart. |
The trees of the LORD are well cared for— the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. | 16The trees of the LORD are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted; |
There the birds make their nests, and the storks make their homes in the cypresses. | 17Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house. |
High in the mountains live the wild goats, and the rocks form a refuge for the hyraxes. | 18The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies. |
You made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to set. | 19He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down. |
You send the darkness, and it becomes night, when all the forest animals prowl about. | 20Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth. |
Then the young lions roar for their prey, stalking the food provided by God. | 21The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God. |
At dawn they slink back into their dens to rest. | 22The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens. |
Then people go off to their work, where they labor until evening. | 23Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening. |
O LORD, what a variety of things you have made! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures. | 24O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches. |
Here is the ocean, vast and wide, teeming with life of every kind, both large and small. | 25So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. |
See the ships sailing along, and Leviathan, which you made to play in the sea. | 26There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein. |
They all depend on you to give them food as they need it. | 27These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season. |
When you supply it, they gather it. You open your hand to feed them, and they are richly satisfied. | 28That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good. |
But if you turn away from them, they panic. When you take away their breath, they die and turn again to dust. | 29Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. |
When you give them your breath, life is created, and you renew the face of the earth. | 30Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth. |
May the glory of the LORD continue forever! The LORD takes pleasure in all he has made! | 31The glory of the LORD shall endure for ever: the LORD shall rejoice in his works. |
The earth trembles at his glance; the mountains smoke at his touch. | 32He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke. |
I will sing to the LORD as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath! | 33I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. |
May all my thoughts be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD. | 34My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD. |
Let all sinners vanish from the face of the earth; let the wicked disappear forever. Let all that I am praise the LORD. Praise the LORD! | 35Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Praise ye the LORD. |
