Disaster Predicted

1  וַיְהִ֥י (Came) דְבַר־ (and the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֵלַ֥י (to me) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  לֹֽא־ (Not) תִקַּ֥ח (you shall take) לְךָ֖ (for yourself) אִשָּׁ֑ה (a wife), וְלֹֽא־ (and not) יִהְי֤וּ (shall there be) לְךָ֙ (unto you) בָּנִ֣ים (sons) וּבָנ֔וֹת (and daughers) בַּמָּק֖וֹם (in the place) הַזֶּֽה׃ (this).

3  כִּי־ (For) כֹ֣ה׀ (thus) אָמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH) עַל־ (concerning) הַבָּנִים֙ (the sons) וְעַל־ (and concerning) הַבָּנ֔וֹת (the daughters) הַיִּלּוֹדִ֖ים (who are born) בַּמָּק֣וֹם (place), הַזֶּ֑ה (in this) וְעַֽל־ (and concerning) אִמֹּתָ֞ם (their mothers) הַיֹּלְד֣וֹת (who bore) אוֹתָ֗ם (them) וְעַל־ (and concerning) אֲבוֹתָ֛ם (their fathers) הַמּוֹלִדִ֥ים (who begat) אוֹתָ֖ם (them) בָּאָ֥רֶץ (in land); הַזֹּֽאת׃ (this). 4  מְמוֹתֵ֨י (Deaths); תַחֲלֻאִ֜ים (diseased) יָמֻ֗תוּ (they will die) לֹ֤א (not) יִסָּֽפְדוּ֙ (they will be mourned); וְלֹ֣א (and not) יִקָּבֵ֔רוּ (will they be buried); לְדֹ֛מֶן (like dung) עַל־ (upon) פְּנֵ֥י (the face) הָאֲדָמָ֖ה (of the ground); יִֽהְי֑וּ (they will be) וּבַחֶ֤רֶב (and by the sword), וּבָֽרָעָב֙ (and by famine); יִכְל֔וּ (they will be finished off) וְהָיְתָ֤ה (shall be) נִבְלָתָם֙ (and their corpses) לְמַאֲכָ֔ל (as food) לְע֥וֹף (for the birds) הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם (of the heavens), וּלְבֶהֱמַ֥ת (and for the beast) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ס (of the earth).

5  כִּֽי־ (For) כֹ֣ה׀ (thus) אָמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH), אַל־ (Do not) תָּבוֹא֙ (enter) בֵּ֣ית (a house) מַרְזֵ֔חַ (of mourning), וְאַל־ (and not) תֵּלֵ֣ךְ (go) לִסְפּ֔וֹד (to mourn) וְאַל־ (and you shall not) תָּנֹ֖ד (bemoan) לָהֶ֑ם (them) כִּֽי־ (for) אָסַ֨פְתִּי (I have gathered up) אֶת־ (-) שְׁלוֹמִ֜י (My peace) מֵאֵ֨ת (away from) הָעָ֤ם־ (the people), הַזֶּה֙ (this) נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), אֶת־ (-) הַחֶ֖סֶד (even loving devotion) וְאֶת־ (and) הָֽרַחֲמִֽים׃ (mercies).

6  וּמֵ֨תוּ (And will die) גְדֹלִ֧ים (the great) וּקְטַנִּ֛ים (and the small) בָּאָ֥רֶץ (land); הַזֹּ֖את (in this) לֹ֣א (not) יִקָּבֵ֑רוּ (they will be buried), וְלֹֽא־ (and no one) יִסְפְּד֣וּ (will mourn) לָהֶ֔ם (for them) וְלֹ֣א (and not) יִתְגֹּדַ֔ד (cut themselves), וְלֹ֥א (and not) יִקָּרֵ֖חַ (make themselves bald) לָהֶֽם׃ (for them). 7  וְלֹֽא־ (And not) יִפְרְס֥וּ (will break it) לָהֶ֛ם (for them) עַל־ (for) אֵ֖בֶל (mourning), לְנַחֲמ֣וֹ (to comfort them) עַל־ (for) מֵ֑ת (the dead); וְלֹֽא־ (and not) יַשְׁק֤וּ (to drink) אוֹתָם֙ (give them) כּ֣וֹס (the cup) תַּנְחוּמִ֔ים (of consolation) עַל־ (for) אָבִ֖יו (his father) וְעַל־ (or for) אִמּֽוֹ׃ (his mother).

8  וּבֵית־ (The house) מִשְׁתֶּ֥ה (of feasting), לֹא־ (not) תָב֖וֹא (you shall enter) לָשֶׁ֣בֶת (to sit) אוֹתָ֑ם (with them) לֶאֱכֹ֖ל (and to eat) וְלִשְׁתּֽוֹת׃ס (and drink). 9  כִּי֩ (For) כֹ֨ה (thus) אָמַ֜ר (says) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH of) צְבָאוֹת֙ (Hosts), אֱלֹהֵ֣י (the God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel); הִנְנִ֨י (behold, I) מַשְׁבִּ֜ית (am going to make cease) מִן־ (from) הַמָּק֥וֹם (the place) הַזֶּ֛ה (this) לְעֵינֵיכֶ֖ם (before your⁺ eyes), וּבִֽימֵיכֶ֑ם (and in your⁺ days), ק֤וֹל (the voice) שָׂשׂוֹן֙ (of joy), וְק֣וֹל (and the voice) שִׂמְחָ֔ה (of gladness), ק֥וֹל (the voice) חָתָ֖ן (of the bridegroom), וְק֥וֹל (and the voice) כַּלָּֽה׃ (of the bride).

10  וְהָיָ֗ה (And it will come to pass), כִּ֤י (when) תַגִּיד֙ (you declare) לָעָ֣ם (to the people) הַזֶּ֔ה (this) אֵ֥ת (-) כָּל־ (all) הַדְּבָרִ֖ים (the words), הָאֵ֑לֶּה (these) וְאָמְר֣וּ (and they say) אֵלֶ֗יךָ (to you) עַל־ (For) מֶה֩ (what reason) דִבֶּ֨ר (spoken) יְהוָ֤ה (has YHWH) עָלֵ֙ינוּ֙ (against us) אֵ֣ת (-) כָּל־ (all) הָרָעָ֤ה (the evil) הַגְּדוֹלָה֙ (great) הַזֹּ֔את (this) וּמֶ֤ה (or what is) עֲוֺנֵ֙נוּ֙ (our iniquity)? וּמֶ֣ה (Or what is) חַטָּאתֵ֔נוּ (our sin) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) חָטָ֖אנוּ (we have committed) לַֽיהוָ֥ה (against YHWH) אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ (our God)?

11  וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ (And you shall say) אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם (to them) עַל֩ (Upon) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) עָזְב֨וּ (have forsaken) אֲבוֹתֵיכֶ֤ם (your⁺ fathers) אוֹתִי֙ (Me) נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH), וַיֵּלְכ֗וּ (and they have walked) אַֽחֲרֵי֙ (after) אֱלֹהִ֣ים (gods), אֲחֵרִ֔ים (other) וַיַּעַבְד֖וּם (and they have served them) וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲו֣וּ (and bowed down) לָהֶ֑ם (to them) וְאֹתִ֣י (Me) עָזָ֔בוּ (and they have forsaken) וְאֶת־ (and) תּוֹרָתִ֖י (My law); לֹ֥א (not) שָׁמָֽרוּ׃ (have kept). 12  וְאַתֶּ֛ם (And you⁺) הֲרֵעֹתֶ֥ם (worse) לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת (have done) מֵאֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם (than your⁺ fathers); וְהִנְּכֶ֣ם (and behold, you⁺) הֹלְכִ֗ים (are walking) אִ֚ישׁ (each man) אַֽחֲרֵי֙ (after) שְׁרִר֣וּת (the stubborness) לִבּֽוֹ־ (heart), הָרָ֔ע (of his evil) לְבִלְתִּ֖י (so as to not) שְׁמֹ֥עַ (listen) אֵלָֽי׃ (to Me). 13  וְהֵטַלְתִּ֣י (And I will cast) אֶתְכֶ֗ם (you⁺) מֵעַל֙ (from) הָאָ֣רֶץ (the land) הַזֹּ֔את (this) עַל־ (into) הָאָ֕רֶץ (a land) אֲשֶׁר֙ (that) לֹ֣א (you have not), יְדַעְתֶּ֔ם (known) אַתֶּ֖ם (you⁺) וַאֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם (and your⁺ fathers); וַעֲבַדְתֶּם־ (and you⁺ will serve) שָׁ֞ם (there) אֶת־ (-) אֱלֹהִ֤ים (gods) אֲחֵרִים֙ (other) יוֹמָ֣ם (day) וָלַ֔יְלָה (and night); אֲשֶׁ֛ר (where) לֹֽא־ (not) אֶתֵּ֥ן (I will give) לָכֶ֖ם (you⁺) חֲנִינָֽה׃ס (favor).

God Will Restore Israel

14  לָכֵ֛ן (Therefore), הִנֵּֽה־ (behold), יָמִ֥ים (the days) בָּאִ֖ים (are coming), נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH), וְלֹֽא־ (and it will not) יֵאָמֵ֥ר (be said), עוֹד֙ (anymore) חַי־ (Lives), יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) אֲשֶׁ֧ר (who) הֶעֱלָ֛ה (brought up) אֶת־ (-) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) מֵאֶ֥רֶץ (from the land) מִצְרָֽיִם׃ (of Egypt); 15  כִּ֣י (but) אִם־ (only) חַי־ (Lives), יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (who) הֶעֱלָ֜ה (brought up) אֶת־ (-) בְּנֵ֤י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ (of Israel) מֵאֶ֣רֶץ (from the land) צָפ֔וֹן (of the north), וּמִכֹּל֙ (and from all) הָֽאֲרָצ֔וֹת (the lands) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (to which) הִדִּיחָ֖ם (He had driven them) שָׁ֑מָּה (there) וַהֲשִֽׁבֹתִים֙ (and I will bring them back) עַל־ (to) אַדְמָתָ֔ם (their land) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) נָתַ֖תִּי (I gave) לַאֲבוֹתָֽם׃ס (to their fathers).

16  הִנְנִ֨י (Behold, I) שֹׁלֵ֜חַ (I will send for) לְדַוָּגִים (fishermen), רַבִּ֛ים (many) נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH), וְדִיג֑וּם (and they will catch them) וְאַֽחֲרֵי־ (and after) כֵ֗ן (this) אֶשְׁלַח֙ (I will send) לְרַבִּ֣ים (for many) צַיָּדִ֔ים (hunters), וְצָד֞וּם (and they will hunt them) מֵעַ֤ל (on) כָּל־ (every) הַר֙ (mountain), וּמֵעַ֣ל (and from) כָּל־ (every) גִּבְעָ֔ה (hill), וּמִנְּקִיקֵ֖י (and from the clefts) הַסְּלָעִֽים׃ (of the rocks).

17  כִּ֤י (For) עֵינַי֙ (My eyes are) עַל־ (on) כָּל־ (all) דַּרְכֵיהֶ֔ם (their ways); לֹ֥א (they are not) נִסְתְּר֖וּ (hidden) מִלְּפָנָ֑י (from My face), וְלֹֽא־ (and not) נִצְפַּ֥ן (hidden) עֲוֺנָ֖ם (is their iniquity) מִנֶּ֥גֶד (from before) עֵינָֽי׃ (My eyes). 18  וְשִׁלַּמְתִּ֣י (I will repay) רִֽאשׁוֹנָ֗ה (and first) מִשְׁנֵ֤ה (double); עֲוֺנָם֙ (their iniquity) וְחַטָּאתָ֔ם (and their sin) עַ֖ל (because) חַלְּלָ֣ם (they have defiled) אֶת־ (-) אַרְצִ֑י (My land), בְּנִבְלַ֤ת (with the carcass) שִׁקּֽוּצֵיהֶם֙ (of their detestable) וְתוֹעֲב֣וֹתֵיהֶ֔ם (and abominable things). מָלְא֖וּ (They have filled) אֶת־ (-) נַחֲלָתִֽי׃ס (My inheritance).

19  יְהוָ֞ה (O YHWH), עֻזִּ֧י (my strength), וּמָעֻזִּ֛י (and my fortress),

וּמְנוּסִ֖י (and My refuge) בְּי֣וֹם (in the day) צָרָ֑ה (of distress),

אֵלֶ֗יךָ (to You) גּוֹיִ֤ם (the nations) יָבֹ֙אוּ֙ (will come)

מֵֽאַפְסֵי־ (from the ends) אָ֔רֶץ (of the earth),

וְיֹאמְר֗וּ (and they will say), אַךְ־ (Surely) שֶׁ֙קֶר֙ (lies), נָחֲל֣וּ (have inherited) אֲבוֹתֵ֔ינוּ (our fathers)

הֶ֖בֶל (worthlessness), וְאֵֽין־ (and no) בָּ֥ם (is in them) מוֹעִֽיל׃ (profit).

20  הֲיַעֲשֶׂה־ (Make) לּ֥וֹ (for himself) אָדָ֖ם (Can man) אֱלֹהִ֑ים (gods)

וְהֵ֖מָּה (and they are) לֹ֥א (not) אֱלֹהִֽים׃ (gods)?

21  לָכֵן֙ (Therefore), הִנְנִ֣י (behold, I) מֽוֹדִיעָ֔ם (I will cause them to know),

בַּפַּ֣עַם (moment) הַזֹּ֔את (in this) אוֹדִיעֵ֥ם (I will cause them to know) אֶת־ (-)

יָדִ֖י (My hand) וְאֶת־ (and) גְּבֽוּרָתִ֑י (My might);

וְיָדְע֖וּ (and they will know)

כִּֽי־ (that) שְׁמִ֥י (My name is) יְהוָֽה׃ס (YHWH).
