Berean Study Bible The Blessed Fear of the LORDA summons to praise the Lord—“Hallelujah,” from halal, meaning “to praise,” and Yah, a shortened form of Yahweh—opening the psalm with worshipful confidence in His character and works. Rev 19:1 After this I heard a sound like the roar… Blessed is the man True flourishing belongs to the person whose life is ordered by God rather than by worldly success or circumstance. Psa 1:1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel… who fears the LORD, Reverence for the LORD recognizes His holiness, authority, and right to command. Such fear produces humble obedience rather than terror. Psa 128:1 A song of ascents. Blessed are all who fear the LORD,… who greatly delights in His commandments. God’s commands are received not as a burden but as the good instruction of a faithful God. Delight in them reveals a heart committed to walking in His ways. Psa 119:47-48 I delight in Your commandments because I love them.… His descendants will be mighty in the land; God’s blessing upon the righteous often extends to their children, granting them strength, stability, and influence within the land He has given. For Israel, the land was the covenant inheritance promised to Abraham and his offspring, and a godly family’s enduring presence there reflected the Lord’s favor. Exo 1:7 but the Israelites were fruitful and multiplied;… the generation of the upright will be blessed. Those who fear the Lord and walk faithfully before Him leave a heritage that benefits those who follow. The blessing includes more than wealth or public success; it encompasses God’s care, favor, and the spiritual good that comes through a household shaped by obedience to Him. Pro 20:7 The righteous man walks with integrity;… Wealth and riches are in his house, The man who fears the Lord receives God’s provision and is able to establish a secure household. In ancient Israel, such wealth commonly included land, livestock, stored grain, servants, and household goods. These blessings were to be received with gratitude and used responsibly, not treated as an end in themselves. Pro 15:6 The house of the righteous has great treasure,… and his righteousness endures forever. His faithful obedience is not as temporary as material possessions. God remembers the righteous life of the one who fears Him, and the fruit of that faithfulness continues beyond his lifetime. Psa 111:3 Splendid and majestic is His work; His righteousness… Light dawns in the darkness for the upright— God brings deliverance and guidance to those who fear Him, even when circumstances are marked by distress or uncertainty. Israel’s history included seasons of oppression, exile, and hardship, yet the Lord remained able to turn darkness into hope. The image ultimately points to the saving light God provides through Christ. Isa 58:10 if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy… for the gracious, The upright reflect God’s character by dealing kindly with others. Grace is not mere politeness but a disposition of mercy and generosity shaped by gratitude for God’s own mercy. Psa 37:26 They are ever generous and quick to lend… compassionate, Those who belong to God do not ignore suffering. They show concern for the needy and act with mercy, following the pattern of the Lord’s compassionate care for His people. Col 3:12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved… and righteous. Their conduct is also governed by obedience to God’s standards. Righteousness joins mercy with justice, revealing a life ordered by faithfulness to the Lord. Psa 1:6 For the LORD guards the path of the righteous,… It is well with the man who is generous and lends freely, In Israel’s agrarian economy, hardship often followed drought, failed harvests, or debt. God’s Law protected the poor by forbidding Israelites from exploiting needy countrymen through interest-bearing loans. Generosity therefore revealed trust in God’s provision and concern for those in need. Such giving reflects the mercy God shows His people. Psa 37:26 They are ever generous and quick to lend… whose affairs are guided by justice. The generous man does not use kindness to conceal dishonesty or favoritism. His business, family responsibilities, and treatment of others are marked by fairness and integrity. Israel was commanded to pursue justice in its courts and daily dealings because the Lord Himself is righteous. A life ordered by justice demonstrates faithful obedience to God’s standards. Psa 25:9 He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them… Surely he will never be shaken; The righteous possess a stability that does not depend on favorable circumstances. Though troubles and opposition arise, God sustains those who fear Him and order their lives according to His ways. Their security rests in the Lord rather than in wealth, power, or human approval. Psa 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me… the righteous man will be remembered forever. His faithful life leaves an enduring testimony among those who knew him, and his name remains known before God. The works of the righteous are not lost with death, for the Lord remembers their faithfulness and preserves the lasting fruit of a life lived in obedience to Him. Pro 10:7 The memory of the righteous is a blessing,… He does not fear bad news; The righteous person is not controlled by reports of danger, loss, or uncertainty because his confidence rests in God’s sovereign care. Israel often lived amid military threats and political instability, yet those who feared the LORD were called to remain secure in Him. Daniel’s calm faith before the lions illustrates such confidence in the face of real danger. Pro 1:33 But whoever listens to me will dwell in safety,… his heart is steadfast, His inner life is settled and firm rather than driven by changing circumstances. Like David during seasons of conflict and distress, he remains committed to God despite opposition, suffering, or uncertain outcomes. Such stability reflects a life shaped by trust and obedience. Psa 57:7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast.… trusting in the LORD. His security comes from reliance on God’s faithfulness, not personal strength or favorable circumstances. Abraham trusted God’s promise when its fulfillment seemed impossible, and Christ perfectly entrusted Himself to the Father throughout His suffering. The believer’s steadfastness rests on the same faithful God. Jer 17:7 But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,… His heart is assured; The righteous person is firmly settled in trust in the Lord. His confidence rests on God’s faithfulness, not on favorable circumstances or personal strength. Psa 57:7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast.… he does not fear, Though surrounded by uncertainty and opposition, he is not ruled by anxiety. He knows that God governs events and preserves His people according to His will. Psa 118:6 The LORD is on my side; I will not be afraid.… until he looks in triumph on his foes. God ultimately vindicates the righteous and judges those who persist in wickedness. The victory may not come immediately, but the outcome is secure because the Lord is just. Psa 59:10 My God of loving devotion will come to meet me;… He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; The righteous person gives freely and generously to those in need. In Israel, the poor often depended on the faithfulness of others for food, land provisions, and relief from debt. Such generosity reflects obedience to God and concern for those vulnerable within the community. 2Co 9:9 As it is written: “He has scattered abroad… his righteousness endures forever; God remembers faithful deeds done in obedience to Him. The righteousness of the godly is not measured by wealth or public standing but by a life marked by faith, justice, and mercy. Ultimately, lasting righteousness is found in Christ and belongs to those who are counted righteous through Him. Psa 111:3 Splendid and majestic is His work; His righteousness… his horn will be lifted high in honor. The horn pictures strength, dignity, and exaltation. Though the righteous may not receive immediate recognition, God will uphold and honor those who fear Him. Their true reward and vindication come from the Lord. Psa 75:10 All the horns of the wicked I will cut off…… The wicked man will see and be grieved; The wicked will witness the security, honor, and lasting blessing granted to those who fear the Lord. Their grief comes from recognizing that their rebellion has left them outside God’s favor and under His judgment. Psa 37:12 The wicked scheme against the righteous… he will gnash his teeth and waste away; Anger and frustration will mark the wicked as their opposition to God proves futile. Their strength, plans, and hopes will fail, ending in ruin. Mat 13:42 And they will throw them into the fiery furnace,… the desires of the wicked will perish. Ambitions built on greed, injustice, or defiance of God will not endure. What the wicked seek apart from God will ultimately come to nothing. Pro 11:7 When the wicked man dies, his hope perishes… This is a draft of the Berean Study Bible. Please send all comments and recommendations to bereanstudybible@aol.com. Bible Hub |
