1	And He went forth thence, and cometh into His own country; and His disciples follow Him.	He went away from there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him.	Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples.
2	And, when the sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many, hearing Him , were astonished, saying, "Whence hath this Man these things?" And, "What is the wisdom which is given to This Man?" And, "Such mighty works are wrought by His hands!"	And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands?	When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing?
3	"Is not This the Carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not His sisters here with us?" And they were finding occasion of stumbling in Him.	Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.	Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.
4	And Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own kindred, and in his own house."	And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.”	Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”
5	And He could there do no mighty work, except that, laying His hands on a few sick people, He healed them. 6	And He marvelled because of their unbelief. And He was going round about the villages, teaching.	And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went about among the villages teaching.	He was amazed at their lack of faith. Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village.

11	And whatsoever place does not receive you, and they hear you not, going forth thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony to them."	And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.”	And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”
12	And, going forth, they preached that men should repent.	So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent.	They went out and preached that people should repent.

14	And the king Herod heard of Him , (for His name became famous), and he said, "John the Immerser has risen from the dead; and, because of this, the powers are working in Him." That is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.”	King Herod heard about this, for Jesus’ name had become well known. Some were saying, “John the Baptist has been raised from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”
15	But others said, " It is Elijah." And others said, " It is a prophet, or as one of the prophets."	But others said, “He is Elijah.” And others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”	Others said, “He is Elijah.” And still others claimed, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of long ago.”
16	But Herod, hearing of Him , said, " It is he whom I beheaded, John, the same was raised."	But when Herod heard of it, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised.”	But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised from the dead!”
17	For Herod himself, sending forth, laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison, for the sake of Herodias the wife of Philip, his brother, because he married her.	For it was Herod who had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her.	For Herod himself had given orders to have John arrested, and he had him bound and put in prison. He did this because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, whom he had married.
18	For John said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."	For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”	For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
19	And Herodias was holding it against him, and was wishing to kill him; and she could not;	And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not,	So Herodias nursed a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she was not able to,
20	for Herod was fearing John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he was preserving him.	for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he heard him gladly.	because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man. When Herod heard John, he was greatly puzzled; yet he liked to listen to him.
21	And, an opportune day having come, when Herod, on his birthday, made a supper for his nobles and for the chief captains, and the chief men of Galilee;	But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his nobles and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee.	Finally the opportune time came. On his birthday Herod gave a banquet for his high officials and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee.
22	and the daughter of Herodias herself coming in and dancing, it pleased Herod and those reclining at table with him; and the king said to the damsel, "Ask of me whatsoever you wish, and I will give it to you."	For when Herodias’s daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. And the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.”	When the daughter of Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests. The king said to the girl, “Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.”
23	And he swore to her, "Whatsoever you ask of me, I will give it to you, unto half of my kingdom."	And he vowed to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.”	And he promised her with an oath, “Whatever you ask I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”
24	And, having gone out, she said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" And she said, "The head of John the Immerser."	And she went out and said to her mother, “For what should I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.”	She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?” “The head of John the Baptist,” she answered.
25	And, coming in straight-way, in haste, to the king, she asked, saying, "I wish that you would, forthwith, give me on a dish, the head of John the Immerser."	And she came in immediately with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”	At once the girl hurried in to the king with the request: “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
26	And, though becoming very sorrowful, the king, because of his oaths, and those reclining with him , would not thwart her.	And the king was exceedingly sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her.	The king was greatly distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he did not want to refuse her.
27	And the king, straightway sending off one of his guard, gave orders to bring his head; and, departing, he beheaded him in the prison,	And immediately the king sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s head. He went and beheaded him in the prison	So he immediately sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s head. The man went, beheaded John in the prison,
28	and brought his head on a dish, and gave it to the damsel, and the damsel gave it to her mother.	and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.	and brought back his head on a platter. He presented it to the girl, and she gave it to her mother.
29	And, having heard of it, his disciples came and took up his corpse, and placed it in a tomb.	When his disciples heard of it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.	On hearing of this, John’s disciples came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.
30	And the apostles gather themselves together to Jesus; and they reported to Him all things, whatsoever they did, and whatsoever they taught. 31	And He saith to them, "Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest yourselves a little." For there were many coming and going, and they were not finding opportunity even to eat.	And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.	Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

33	And the people saw them going on their way, and many knew them , and they ran together there on foot from all the cities, and outwent them. 36	send them away, that, having gone into the surrounding fields and villages, they may buy themselves something to eat."	Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”	Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”
37	But He saith to them, "Give ye them to eat." And they said to Him, "Going, shall we buy two hundred denaries worth of loaves, and give them to eat?"	But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said to him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?”	But he answered, “You give them something to eat.” They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?”
38	But He saith to them, "How many loaves have ye? go and see." And, having ascertained, they say, "Five, and two fishes."	And he said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.”	“How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.”
39	And He commanded that all should recline by companies on the grass.	Then he commanded them all to sit down in groups on the green grass.	Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass.
40	And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and fifties.	So they sat down in groups, by hundreds and by fifties.	So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties.
41	And, taking the five loaves and two fishes, looking up to Heaven, He blessed, and broke up the loaves, and kept giving to the disciples to set before them; and He divided the two fishes among them all. 48	And, seeing them distressed in rowing, for the wind was contrary to them, about the fourth watch of the night He cometh to them, walking on the sea; and He wished to pass by them;	And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them,	He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them,
49	but, seeing Him walking on the sea, they supposed that it was a ghost, and they cried out;	but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out,	but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out,
50	for they all saw Him; and were troubled. But he straight-way talked with them, and saith to them, "Be of good courage! it is I, be not afraid."	for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”	because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
51	And He went up to them into the boat; and the wind ceased; and they were exceedingly amazed in themselves:	And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded,	Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed,
52	for they did not understand concerning the loaves, but their heart was hardened.	for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.	for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.
53	And, crossing over, they came upon the land to Gennesaret, and anchored there.	When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored to the shore.	When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and anchored there.
54	And, when they came out of the boat, straightway recognizing Him,	And when they got out of the boat, the people immediately recognized him	As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus.
55	they ran about that whole country, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick, where they were hearing that He was.	and ran about the whole region and began to bring the sick people on their beds to wherever they heard he was.	They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was.
56	And wheresoever He was entering into villages, or into cities, or into the country, they placed the sick in the marketplaces, and were beseeching Him, that they might touch even the border of His garment; and as many as touched were healed.	And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.	And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.
