What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing?
3 This is the builder, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon, isn't it? His sisters are here with us, aren't they?| And they were offended by him. Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.
4 Jesus had been telling them, |A prophet is without honor only in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his own home.| And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”

17 because Herod himself had sent men who arrested John, bound him with chains, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, whom Herod had married. 21 An opportunity came during Herod's birthday celebration, when he gave a banquet for his top officials, military officers, and the most important people of Galilee. 24 So she went out and asked her mother, |What should I ask for?| Her mother replied, |The head of John the Baptist.| And she went out and said to her mother, “For what should I ask?” And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.” She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?” “The head of John the Baptist,” she answered.
25 Immediately the girl hurried back to the king with her request, |I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter.| And she came in immediately with haste to the king and asked, saying, “I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.” At once the girl hurried in to the king with the request: “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
26 The king was deeply saddened, yet because of his oaths and his guests he was reluctant to refuse her. And the king was exceedingly sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her. The king was greatly distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he did not want to refuse her.
27 So without delay the king sent a soldier and ordered him to bring John's head. The soldier went and beheaded him in prison. And as many as touched it were made well. And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.
