1	And having risen, the whole multitude of them led Him to Pilate,	Then the whole company of them arose and brought him before Pilate.	Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate.
2	and began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this One perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying Himself to be Christ, a king.”	And they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”	And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.”
3	And Pilate questioned Him, saying, “You are the King of the Jews?” And He answering him, said, “You say [it].”	And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”	So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
4	And Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitude, “I find no fault in this Man”;	Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no guilt in this man.”	Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
5	and they were the more urgent, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout the whole of Judea—having begun from Galilee—to this place.”	But they were urgent, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee even to this place.”	But they insisted, “He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here.”
6	And Pilate having heard of Galilee, questioned if the Man is a Galilean,	When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.	On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean.
7	and having known that He is from the jurisdiction of Herod, he sent Him back to Herod, he also being in Jerusalem in those days.	And when he learned that he belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time.	When he learned that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.
8	And Herod rejoiced exceedingly having seen Jesus, for he was wishing to see Him for a long [time], because of hearing many things about Him, and he was hoping to see some sign done by Him,	When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him, and he was hoping to see some sign done by him.	When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort.
9	and was questioning Him in many words, and He answered him nothing.	So he questioned him at some length, but he made no answer.	He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.
10	And the chief priests and the scribes stood vehemently accusing Him,	The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him.	The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him.
11	and Herod with his soldiers having set Him at nothing, and having mocked, having cast radiant apparel around Him, sent Him back to Pilate,	And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, arraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate.	Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate.
12	and both Pilate and Herod became friends with one another on that day, for they were previously at enmity between themselves.	And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other.	That day Herod and Pilate became friends—before this they had been enemies.
13	And Pilate having called together the chief priests, and the rulers, and the people,	Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,	Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people,
14	said to them, “You brought this Man to me as perverting the people, and behold, I having examined [Him] before you, found no fault in this Man in those things you bring forward against Him;	and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him.	and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.
15	no, neither Herod, for he sent Him back to us, and behold, nothing worthy of death is having been done by Him;	Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him.	Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death.
16	having corrected, therefore, I will release Him,”	I will therefore punish and release him.”	Therefore, I will punish him and then release him.”
17	[[for it was necessary for him to release to them one at every celebration,]]
18	and they cried out—the whole multitude—saying, “Away with this One, and release Barabbas to us,”	But they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”—	But the whole crowd shouted, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!”
19	who had been cast into prison, because of a certain sedition made in the city, and murder.	a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and for murder.	(Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)
20	Pilate again then—wishing to release Jesus—called to them,	Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus,	Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again.
21	but they were calling out, saying, “Crucify! Crucify Him!”	but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!”	But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”
22	And he said to them a third time, “Why, what evil did He do? I found no cause of death in Him; having corrected Him, then, I will release [Him].”	A third time he said to them, “Why? What evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.”	For the third time he spoke to them: “Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.”
23	And they were pressing with loud voices asking Him to be crucified, and their voices, and those of the chief priests, were prevailing,	But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.	But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed.
24	and Pilate gave judgment for their request being done,	So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.	So Pilate decided to grant their demand.
25	and he released him who because of sedition and murder has been cast into the prison, whom they were asking for, and he gave up Jesus to their will.	He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus over to their will.	He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.
26	And as they led Him away, having taken hold on Simon, a certain Cyrenian, coming from the field, they put the cross on him to carry [it] behind Jesus.	And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus.	As the soldiers led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus.
27	And a great multitude of the people were following Him, and of women, who also were beating themselves and lamenting Him,	And there followed him a great multitude of the people and of women who were mourning and lamenting for him.	A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him.
28	and Jesus having turned to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children;	But turning to them Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.	Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children.
29	for behold, days come in which they will say, Blessed the barren, and wombs that did not bear, and breasts that did not give suck;	For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’	For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’
30	then they will begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us, and to the hills, Cover us;	Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’	Then “’they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!\|’
31	for if they do these things in the green tree, what may happen in the dry?”	For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?”	For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
32	And there were also others—two evildoers—with Him, to be put to death;	Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him.	Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed.
33	and when they came to the place that is called “[Place] of [the] Skull,” there they crucified Him and the evildoers, one on the right hand and one on the left.	And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left.	When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left.
34	And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they have not known what they do”; and parting His garments they cast a lot.	And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.	Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
35	And the people were standing, looking on, and the rulers were also sneering with them, saying, “He saved others, let Him save Himself, if this be the Christ, the Chosen One of God.”	And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!”	The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”
36	And the soldiers were also mocking Him, coming near and offering vinegar to Him,	The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine	The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar
37	and saying, “If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.”	and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”	and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”
38	And there was also an inscription written over Him [[in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew]]: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”	There was also an inscription over him, “This is the King of the Jews.”	There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews.
39	And one of the evildoers who were hanged was slandering Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”	One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!”	One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
40	And the other answering, was rebuking him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, that you are in the same judgment?	But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?	But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence?
41	And we indeed justly, for we are receiving back [things] worthy of what we did, but this One did nothing out of place”;	And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”	We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
42	and he said to Jesus, “Remember me, Lord, when You may come in Your kingdom”;	And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”	Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43	and Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”	And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”	Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
44	And it was, as it were, the sixth hour, and darkness came over all the land until the ninth hour,	It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour,	It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon,
45	and the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in the middle,	while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.	for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
46	and having cried with a loud voice, Jesus said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit”; now having said this, He breathed His last.	Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.	Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.
47	And the centurion having seen what was done, glorified God, saying, “Truly this Man was righteous”;	Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent!”	The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.”
48	and all the multitudes having come together to this sight, beholding the things that came to pass, turned back striking their breasts;	And all the crowds that had assembled for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned home beating their breasts.	When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away.
49	and all His acquaintances stood far off, and women who followed Him from Galilee, beholding these things.	And all his acquaintances and the women who had followed him from Galilee stood at a distance watching these things.	But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
50	And behold, a man, by name Joseph, being a counselor, a man good and righteous,	Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man,	Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man,
51	from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who also himself was expecting the Kingdom of God, he was not consenting to their counsel and deed,	who had not consented to their decision and action; and he was looking for the kingdom of God.	who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God.
52	he having gone near to Pilate, asked for the body of Jesus,	This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.	Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body.
53	and having taken it down, he wrapped it in fine linen, and placed it in a hewn out tomb, where no one was yet laid.	Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud and laid him in a tomb cut in stone, where no one had ever yet been laid.	Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid.
54	And it was [the] Day of Preparation, and Sabbath was approaching,	It was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was beginning.	It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.
55	and the women who also have come with Him out of Galilee having followed after, beheld the tomb, and how His body was placed,	The women who had come with him from Galilee followed and saw the tomb and how his body was laid.	The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it.
56	and having turned back, they made ready spices and ointments, and on the Sabbath, indeed, they rested, according to the command.	Then they returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.	Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.
