1	And the whole company of them rose up, and brought him before Pilate.	Then the whole company of them arose and brought him before Pilate.	Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate.
2	And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king.	And they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”	And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.”
3	And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest.	And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”	So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
4	And Pilate said unto the chief priests and the multitudes, I find no fault in this man.	Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no guilt in this man.”	Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
5	But they were the more urgent, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Judaea, and beginning from Galilee even unto this place.	But they were urgent, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee even to this place.”	But they insisted, “He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here.”
6	But when Pilate heard it, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.	When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.	On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean.
7	And when he knew that he was of Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him unto Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem in these days.	And when he learned that he belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time.	When he learned that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.
8	Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was of a long time desirous to see him, because he had heard concerning him; and he hoped to see some miracle done by him.	When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him, and he was hoping to see some sign done by him.	When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort.
9	And he questioned him in many words; but he answered him nothing.	So he questioned him at some length, but he made no answer.	He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.
10	And the chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.	The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him.	The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him.
11	And Herod with his soldiers set him at nought, and mocked him, and arraying him in gorgeous apparel sent him back to Pilate.	And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him.	and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.
15	no, nor yet Herod: for he sent him back unto us; and behold, nothing worthy of death hath been done by him.	Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him.	Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death.
16	I will therefore chastise him, and release him.	I will therefore punish and release him.”	Therefore, I will punish him and then release him.”

18	But they cried out all together, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:	But they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”—	But the whole crowd shouted, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!”
19	one who for a certain insurrection made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.	a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and for murder.	(Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)
20	And Pilate spake unto them again, desiring to release Jesus;	Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus,	Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again.
21	but they shouted, saying, Crucify, crucify him.	but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!”	But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”
22	And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath this man done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him and release him.	A third time he said to them, “Why? What evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.”	For the third time he spoke to them: “Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.”
23	But they were instant with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. And their voices prevailed.	But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.	But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed.
24	And Pilate gave sentence that what they asked for should be done.	So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.	So Pilate decided to grant their demand.
25	And he released him that for insurrection and murder had been cast into prison, whom they asked for; but Jesus he delivered up to their will.	He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus over to their will. 26	And when they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid on him the cross, to bear it after Jesus. 28	But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children.
29	For behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the breasts that never gave suck.	For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’	For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’
30	Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.	Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’	Then “’they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!\|’
31	For if they do these things in the green tree, what shall be done in the dry?	For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?”	For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
32	And there were also two others, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.	Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him.	Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed.
33	And when they came unto the place which is called The skull, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand and the other on the left.	And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. 34	And Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And parting his garments among them, they cast lots. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
35	And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also scoffed at him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen.	And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!”	The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”
36	And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, offering him vinegar,	The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine	The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar
37	and saying, If thou art the King of the Jews, save thyself.	and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”	and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”
38	And there was also a superscription over him, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.	There was also an inscription over him, “This is the King of the Jews.”	There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews.
39	And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, Art not thou the Christ? save thyself and us.	One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!”	One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
40	But the other answered, and rebuking him said, Dost thou not even fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?	But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?	But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence?
41	And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.	And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”	We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
42	And he said, Jesus, remember me when thou comest in thy kingdom.	And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”	Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43	And he said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in Paradise.	And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”	Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
44	And it was now about the sixth hour, and a darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour,	It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour,	It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon,
45	the sun's light failing: and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.	while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.	for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
46	And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said this, he gave up the ghost. 47	And when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.	Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent!”	The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.”
48	And all the multitudes that came together to this sight, when they beheld the things that were done, returned smiting their breasts.	And all the crowds that had assembled for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned home beating their breasts.	When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away.
49	And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed with him from Galilee, stood afar off, seeing these things.	And all his acquaintances and the women who had followed him from Galilee stood at a distance watching these things.	But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
50	And behold, a man named Joseph, who was a councillor, a good man and a righteous	Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man,	Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man,
51	(he had not consented to their counsel and deed), a man of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was looking for the kingdom of God:	who had not consented to their decision and action; and he was looking for the kingdom of God.	who had not consented to their decision and action.
