1	And having risen up, all the multitude of them led Him to Pilate.	Then the whole company of them arose and brought him before Pilate.	Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate.
2	And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding taxes to be given to Caesar, and declaring Himself to be Christ, a King.”	And they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”	And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.”
3	And Pilate questioned Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And answering him, He was saying, “You say.”	And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”	So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied.
4	And Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no guilt in this man.”	Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no guilt in this man.”	Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
5	But they kept insisting, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all of Judea, and He has begun from Galilee even to here.”	But they were urgent, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee even to this place.”	But they insisted, “He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here.”
6	And Pilate, having heard, asked whether the man is a Galilean.	When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.	On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean.
7	And having learned that He is from the jurisdiction of Herod, he sent Him up to Herod, he himself being also in Jerusalem in those days.	And when he learned that he belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time.	When he learned that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.
8	And Herod, having seen Jesus, was exceedingly glad; for of a long time he is wanting to see Him, because of hearing concerning Him; and he was hoping to see some sign done by Him.	When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him, and he was hoping to see some sign done by him.	When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort.
9	And he kept questioning Him in many words, but He answered him nothing.	So he questioned him at some length, but he made no answer.	He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.
10	And the chief priests and the scribes had been standing by, vehemently accusing Him.	The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him.	The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him.
11	And Herod, with his troops, having treated Him with contempt and also having mocked Him, having put on Him splendid apparel, sent Him back to Pilate. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate.
12	And both Herod and Pilate became friends with one another on that day; for previously they were at enmity between themselves. 14	said to them, “You⁺ brought to me this man as one misleading the people; and behold, having examined Him before you⁺, I found nothing in this man guilty of that accusation you⁺ are bringing against Him—	and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him.	and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him.
15	no, nor even Herod, for he sent Him back to us. And behold, nothing worthy of death is done by Him.	Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him.	Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death.
16	Therefore, having chastised Him, I will release Him.”	I will therefore punish and release him.”	Therefore, I will punish him and then release him.”

18	But they cried out all together, saying, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas,”	But they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”—	But the whole crowd shouted, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!”
19	who was one having been cast into the prison on account of a certain insurrection having been made in the city, and murder.	a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and for murder. 20	Therefore Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, called to them again.	Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus,	Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again.

22	And he said to them a third time, “What evil indeed did this man commit? I found no cause of death in Him. Therefore having chastised Him, I will release Him.”	A third time he said to them, “Why? What evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.”	For the third time he spoke to them: “Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.”
23	But they were urgent, asking with loud voices for Him to be crucified. And their voices were prevailing.	But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.	But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed.
24	And Pilate sentenced their demand to be done.	So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.	So Pilate decided to grant their demand.
25	And he released the one having been cast into prison on account of insurrection and murder, whom they had asked for; and Jesus he delivered up to their will.	He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus over to their will. 26	And as they led Him away, having laid hold on Simon, a certain man of Cyrene coming from the country, they put upon him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus. 28	But having turned to them, Jesus said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your⁺ children. 29	For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never did bear, and the breasts that never nursed!’	For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’	For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’
30	Then ‘they will begin to say to the mountains, “Fall upon us,” and to the hills, “Cover us.”’	Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’	Then “’they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!\|’
31	For if they do these things in the green tree, what might happen in the dry?”	For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?”	For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
32	And two other criminals also were being led away to be put to death with Him.	Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him.	Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed.
33	And when they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and one on the left hand. 34	And Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they cast lots, dividing His garments. 35	And the people stood, looking on. And the rulers also were deriding Him, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.”	And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!”	The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”
36	And the soldiers also mocked Him, coming near, offering Him sour wine	The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine	The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar

39	And one of the criminals having been hanged was railing at Him, saying, “Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!”	One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!”	One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
40	But the other, answering, was rebuking him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same judgment,	But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?	But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence?
41	and we indeed justly? For we are receiving back things worthy of what we did, but this man did nothing wrong.”	And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”	We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
42	And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom!”	And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”	Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43	And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”	And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”	Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
44	And now it was about the sixth hour, and darkness came over all the land until the ninth hour,	It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour,	It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon,
45	the sun having darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in the middle.	while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.	for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
46	And having called out in a loud voice, Jesus said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit.” And having said this, He breathed His last. 47	And having seen that having taken place, the centurion was glorifying God, saying, “Certainly this man was righteous.”	Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent!”	The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, “Surely this was a righteous man.”
48	And all the crowds having come together to this spectacle, having seen the things having taken place, were turning back, beating their breasts.	And all the crowds that had assembled for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned home beating their breasts.	When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away.
49	But all from those who knew Him, and the women, those having followed Him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.	And all his acquaintances and the women who had followed him from Galilee stood at a distance watching these things.	But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
50	And behold, a man named Joseph, being also a Council member, a good and righteous man—	Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man,	Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man,
