And YHWH spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, | The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, | The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, |
“When a man has on the skin of his body a swelling, or a scab, or a bright spot, and it becomes a plague of leprosy in the skin of his flesh, then he shall be brought to Aaron the priest, or to one from his sons, the priests. | “When a person has on the skin of his body a swelling or an eruption or a spot, and it turns into a case of leprous disease on the skin of his body, then he shall be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons the priests, | “When anyone has a swelling or a rash or a shiny spot on their skin that may be a defiling skin disease, they must be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons who is a priest. |
And the priest shall examine the plague in the skin of his flesh. And if the hair in the plague has turned white, and the appearance of the plague is deeper than the skin of his body, it is a plague of leprosy; and the priest shall examine him, and he shall pronounce him unclean. | and the priest shall examine the diseased area on the skin of his body. And if the hair in the diseased area has turned white and the disease appears to be deeper than the skin of his body, it is a case of leprous disease. When the priest has examined him, he shall pronounce him unclean. | The priest is to examine the sore on the skin, and if the hair in the sore has turned white and the sore appears to be more than skin deep, it is a defiling skin disease. When the priest examines that person, he shall pronounce them ceremonially unclean. |
And if the bright spot is white in the skin of his flesh, and its appearance is not deeper than the skin, and its hair has not turned white, then the priest shall shut up the one with the plague seven days. | But if the spot is white in the skin of his body and appears no deeper than the skin, and the hair in it has not turned white, the priest shall shut up the diseased person for seven days. | If the shiny spot on the skin is white but does not appear to be more than skin deep and the hair in it has not turned white, the priest is to isolate the affected person for seven days. |
And the priest shall examine him on the seventh day, and behold, if the plague has stood in his eyes, the plague has not spread in the skin, then the priest shall shut him up a second seven days. | And the priest shall examine him on the seventh day, and if in his eyes the disease is checked and the disease has not spread in the skin, then the priest shall shut him up for another seven days. | On the seventh day the priest is to examine them, and if he sees that the sore is unchanged and has not spread in the skin, he is to isolate them for another seven days. |
And the priest shall examine him on the second seventh day, and behold, if the plague has faded and the plague has not spread in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean. It is a scab, and he shall wash his clothes and he shall be clean. | And the priest shall examine him again on the seventh day, and if the diseased area has faded and the disease has not spread in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean; it is only an eruption. And he shall wash his clothes and be clean. | On the seventh day the priest is to examine them again, and if the sore has faded and has not spread in the skin, the priest shall pronounce them clean; it is only a rash. They must wash their clothes, and they will be clean. |
And if the scab spreads at all in the skin after he has been seen by the priest for his cleansing, then he shall be seen a second time by the priest. | But if the eruption spreads in the skin, after he has shown himself to the priest for his cleansing, he shall appear again before the priest. | But if the rash does spread in their skin after they have shown themselves to the priest to be pronounced clean, they must appear before the priest again. |
And the priest shall examine him, and behold, if the scab has spread in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is leprosy. | And the priest shall look, and if the eruption has spread in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a leprous disease. | The priest is to examine that person, and if the rash has spread in the skin, he shall pronounce them unclean; it is a defiling skin disease. |
When a plague is leprous in a man, then he shall be brought to the priest. | “When a man is afflicted with a leprous disease, he shall be brought to the priest, | “When anyone has a defiling skin disease, they must be brought to the priest. |
And the priest shall examine him, and behold, if the swelling is white in the skin, and it has turned the hair white, and there is a spot of living flesh in the swelling, | and the priest shall look. And if there is a white swelling in the skin that has turned the hair white, and there is raw flesh in the swelling, | The priest is to examine them, and if there is a white swelling in the skin that has turned the hair white and if there is raw flesh in the swelling, |
it is an old leprosy in the skin of his body, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean. He shall not shut him up, for he is unclean. | it is a chronic leprous disease in the skin of his body, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean. He shall not shut him up, for he is unclean. | it is a chronic skin disease and the priest shall pronounce them unclean. He is not to isolate them, because they are already unclean. |
And if leprosy breaks out at all in the skin, and the leprosy covers all the skin of the one with the plague, from his head and to his feet, to all that appears to the eye of the priest, | And if the leprous disease breaks out in the skin, so that the leprous disease covers all the skin of the diseased person from head to foot, so far as the priest can see, | “If the disease breaks out all over their skin and, so far as the priest can see, it covers all the skin of the affected person from head to foot, |
then the priest shall examine him, and behold, if the leprosy has covered all his flesh, then the one with the plague he shall pronounce clean; it has all turned white; he is clean. | then the priest shall look, and if the leprous disease has covered all his body, he shall pronounce him clean of the disease; it has all turned white, and he is clean. | the priest is to examine them, and if the disease has covered their whole body, he shall pronounce them clean. Since it has all turned white, they are clean. |
And in the day of the appearing of living flesh in him, he shall be unclean. | But when raw flesh appears on him, he shall be unclean. | But whenever raw flesh appears on them, they will be unclean. |
And the priest shall examine the living flesh and pronounce him unclean, the living flesh is unclean; it is leprosy. | And the priest shall examine the raw flesh and pronounce him unclean. Raw flesh is unclean, for it is a leprous disease. | When the priest sees the raw flesh, he shall pronounce them unclean. The raw flesh is unclean; they have a defiling disease. |
Or if the living flesh turns back, and it is turned to white, then he shall come to the priest, | But if the raw flesh recovers and turns white again, then he shall come to the priest, | If the raw flesh changes and turns white, they must go to the priest. |
and the priest shall examine him, and behold, if the plague has turned to white, then the priest shall pronounce clean the one with the plague; he is clean. | and the priest shall examine him, and if the disease has turned white, then the priest shall pronounce the diseased person clean; he is clean. | The priest is to examine them, and if the sores have turned white, the priest shall pronounce the affected person clean; then they will be clean. |
And when the flesh has a boil in the skin and it is healed, | “If there is in the skin of one’s body a boil and it heals, | “When someone has a boil on their skin and it heals, |
and there is in the place of the boil a white swelling, or a reddish-white bright spot, then it shall be shown to the priest. | and in the place of the boil there comes a white swelling or a reddish-white spot, then it shall be shown to the priest. | and in the place where the boil was, a white swelling or reddish-white spot appears, they must present themselves to the priest. |
And the priest shall examine him and behold, if its appearance is lower than the skin and its hair has turned white, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a plague of leprosy, it has broken out in the boil. | And the priest shall look, and if it appears deeper than the skin and its hair has turned white, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is a case of leprous disease that has broken out in the boil. | The priest is to examine it, and if it appears to be more than skin deep and the hair in it has turned white, the priest shall pronounce that person unclean. It is a defiling skin disease that has broken out where the boil was. |
And if the priest examines it and behold, there is not white hair in it, and it is not lower than the skin, and it has faded, then the priest shall shut him up seven days. | But if the priest examines it and there is no white hair in it and it is not deeper than the skin, but has faded, then the priest shall shut him up seven days. | But if, when the priest examines it, there is no white hair in it and it is not more than skin deep and has faded, then the priest is to isolate them for seven days. |
And if it spreads at all in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a plague. | And if it spreads in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a disease. | If it is spreading in the skin, the priest shall pronounce them unclean; it is a defiling disease. |
And if the bright spot stands in its place, it has not spread, it is the scar of the boil; and the priest shall pronounce him clean. | But if the spot remains in one place and does not spread, it is the scar of the boil, and the priest shall pronounce him clean. | But if the spot is unchanged and has not spread, it is only a scar from the boil, and the priest shall pronounce them clean. |
Or if the flesh has a burn of fire in its skin and the raw spot of the burn becomes a reddish-white bright spot, or white, | “Or, when the body has a burn on its skin and the raw flesh of the burn becomes a spot, reddish-white or white, | “When someone has a burn on their skin and a reddish-white or white spot appears in the raw flesh of the burn, |
then the priest shall examine it, and behold, if the hair has been turned white in the bright spot, and its appearance is deeper than the skin, it is leprosy. It has broken out in the burn, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a plague of leprosy. | the priest shall examine it, and if the hair in the spot has turned white and it appears deeper than the skin, then it is a leprous disease. It has broken out in the burn, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a case of leprous disease. | the priest is to examine the spot, and if the hair in it has turned white, and it appears to be more than skin deep, it is a defiling disease that has broken out in the burn. The priest shall pronounce them unclean; it is a defiling skin disease. |
And if the priest examines it, and behold, there is not white hair in the bright spot, and it is not lower than the skin, and it has faded, then the priest shall shut him up seven days. | But if the priest examines it and there is no white hair in the spot and it is no deeper than the skin, but has faded, the priest shall shut him up seven days, | But if the priest examines it and there is no white hair in the spot and if it is not more than skin deep and has faded, then the priest is to isolate them for seven days. |
And the priest shall examine him on the seventh day, and if it has spread at all in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a plague of leprosy. | and the priest shall examine him the seventh day. If it is spreading in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a case of leprous disease. | On the seventh day the priest is to examine that person, and if it is spreading in the skin, the priest shall pronounce them unclean; it is a defiling skin disease. |
And if the bright spot stands in its place, it has not spread in the skin, and it has faded, it is the swelling of the burn; and the priest shall pronounce him clean, for it is the scar of the burn. | But if the spot remains in one place and does not spread in the skin, but has faded, it is a swelling from the burn, and the priest shall pronounce him clean, for it is the scar of the burn. | If, however, the spot is unchanged and has not spread in the skin but has faded, it is a swelling from the burn, and the priest shall pronounce them clean; it is only a scar from the burn. |
And if a man or woman has a plague in him in the head or in the beard, | “When a man or woman has a disease on the head or the beard, | “If a man or woman has a sore on their head or chin, |
then the priest shall examine the plague, and behold, if its appearance is deeper than the skin, and in it is thin yellow hair, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a scale—it is a leprosy of the head or of the beard. | the priest shall examine the disease. And if it appears deeper than the skin, and the hair in it is yellow and thin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is an itch, a leprous disease of the head or the beard. | the priest is to examine the sore, and if it appears to be more than skin deep and the hair in it is yellow and thin, the priest shall pronounce them unclean; it is a defiling skin disease on the head or chin. |
And if the priest examines the plague of the scale, and behold, its appearance is not deeper than the skin, and black hair is not in it, then the priest shall shut up the one who has the plague of the scale seven days. | And if the priest examines the itching disease and it appears no deeper than the skin and there is no black hair in it, then the priest shall shut up the person with the itching disease for seven days, | But if, when the priest examines the sore, it does not seem to be more than skin deep and there is no black hair in it, then the priest is to isolate the affected person for seven days. |
And the priest shall examine the plague on the seventh day, and behold, if the scale has not spread, and there is not yellow hair in it, and the appearance of the scale is not deeper than the skin, | and on the seventh day the priest shall examine the disease. If the itch has not spread, and there is in it no yellow hair, and the itch appears to be no deeper than the skin, | On the seventh day the priest is to examine the sore, and if it has not spread and there is no yellow hair in it and it does not appear to be more than skin deep, |
then he shall shave himself, and the scale he shall not shave. And the priest shall shut up the one who has the scale a second seven days. | then he shall shave himself, but the itch he shall not shave; and the priest shall shut up the person with the itching disease for another seven days. | then the man or woman must shave themselves, except for the affected area, and the priest is to keep them isolated another seven days. |
And the priest shall examine the scale on the seventh day, and behold, if the scale has not spread in the skin, and the appearance of it is not deeper than the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean, and he shall wash his clothes, and he shall be clean. | And on the seventh day the priest shall examine the itch, and if the itch has not spread in the skin and it appears to be no deeper than the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean. And he shall wash his clothes and be clean. | On the seventh day the priest is to examine the sore, and if it has not spread in the skin and appears to be no more than skin deep, the priest shall pronounce them clean. They must wash their clothes, and they will be clean. |
And if the scale spreads at all in the skin after his cleansing, | But if the itch spreads in the skin after his cleansing, | But if the sore does spread in the skin after they are pronounced clean, |
then the priest shall examine him, and behold, if the scale has spread in the skin, the priest need not seek for the yellow hair; he is unclean. | then the priest shall examine him, and if the itch has spread in the skin, the priest need not seek for the yellow hair; he is unclean. | the priest is to examine them, and if he finds that the sore has spread in the skin, he does not need to look for yellow hair; they are unclean. |
And if in his eyes the scale has stood, and black hair has grown up in it, the scale has been healed; he is clean, and the priest shall pronounce him clean. | But if in his eyes the itch is unchanged and black hair has grown in it, the itch is healed and he is clean, and the priest shall pronounce him clean. | If, however, the sore is unchanged so far as the priest can see, and if black hair has grown in it, the affected person is healed. They are clean, and the priest shall pronounce them clean. |
And if a man or a woman has in the skin of their flesh bright spots—white bright spots— | “When a man or a woman has spots on the skin of the body, white spots, | “When a man or woman has white spots on the skin, |
then the priest shall examine, and behold, if in the skin of their flesh are dull white bright spots, it is a harmless rash, it has broken out in the skin; he is clean. | the priest shall look, and if the spots on the skin of the body are of a dull white, it is leukoderma that has broken out in the skin; he is clean. | the priest is to examine them, and if the spots are dull white, it is a harmless rash that has broken out on the skin; they are clean. |
And when a man’s head is made bare, he is bald; he is clean. | “If a man’s hair falls out from his head, he is bald; he is clean. | “A man who has lost his hair and is bald is clean. |
And if from the side of his face his head is made bare, he is bald of forehead; he is clean. | And if a man’s hair falls out from his forehead, he has baldness of the forehead; he is clean. | If he has lost his hair from the front of his scalp and has a bald forehead, he is clean. |
And if there is in the bald head or in the bald forehead a reddish-white … plague, it is leprosy breaking out in his bald head or in his bald forehead. | But if there is on the bald head or the bald forehead a reddish-white diseased area, it is a leprous disease breaking out on his bald head or his bald forehead. | But if he has a reddish-white sore on his bald head or forehead, it is a defiling disease breaking out on his head or forehead. |
And the priest shall examine him, and behold, if the swelling of the plague is reddish-white … in his bald head or in his bald forehead, like the appearance of leprosy on the skin of the flesh, | Then the priest shall examine him, and if the diseased swelling is reddish-white on his bald head or on his bald forehead, like the appearance of leprous disease in the skin of the body, | The priest is to examine him, and if the swollen sore on his head or forehead is reddish-white like a defiling skin disease, |
he is a leprous man; he is unclean. The priest shall pronounce him utterly unclean; his plague is in his head. | he is a leprous man, he is unclean. The priest must pronounce him unclean; his disease is on his head. | the man is diseased and is unclean. The priest shall pronounce him unclean because of the sore on his head. |
And the leper who has in him the plague, his clothes shall be torn, and his head shall be uncovered, and he shall cover his mustache. And he shall call out, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’ | “The leprous person who has the disease shall wear torn clothes and let the hair of his head hang loose, and he shall cover his upper lip and cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean.’ | “Anyone with such a defiling disease must wear torn clothes, let their hair be unkempt, cover the lower part of their face and cry out, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’ |
All the days that the plague is in him he shall be unclean; he is unclean. He shall dwell alone; his dwelling is outside of the camp. | He shall remain unclean as long as he has the disease. He is unclean. He shall live alone. His dwelling shall be outside the camp. | As long as they have the disease they remain unclean. They must live alone; they must live outside the camp. |
And if there is a garment that has a plague of leprosy in it—in a garment of wool or in a garment of linen— | “When there is a case of leprous disease in a garment, whether a woolen or a linen garment, | “As for any fabric that is spoiled with a defiling mold—any woolen or linen clothing, |
or in the warp or in the woof, for the linen and for the wool, or in skin or in any work of skin, | in warp or woof of linen or wool, or in a skin or in anything made of skin, | any woven or knitted material of linen or wool, any leather or anything made of leather— |
and the plague is greenish or reddish in the garment, or in the skin, or in the warp or in the woof, or in any article of skin, it is a plague of leprosy, and it shall be shown to the priest. | if the disease is greenish or reddish in the garment, or in the skin or in the warp or the woof or in any article made of skin, it is a case of leprous disease, and it shall be shown to the priest. | if the affected area in the fabric, the leather, the woven or knitted material, or any leather article, is greenish or reddish, it is a defiling mold and must be shown to the priest. |
And the priest shall examine the plague, and he shall shut up the plague seven days. | And the priest shall examine the disease and shut up that which has the disease for seven days. | The priest is to examine the affected area and isolate the article for seven days. |
And he shall examine the plague on the seventh day. If the plague has spread in the garment, or in the warp or in the woof, or in the skin, for any work that the skin is made for, the plague is a harmful leprosy; it is unclean. | Then he shall examine the disease on the seventh day. If the disease has spread in the garment, in the warp or the woof, or in the skin, whatever be the use of the skin, the disease is a persistent leprous disease; it is unclean. | On the seventh day he is to examine it, and if the mold has spread in the fabric, the woven or knitted material, or the leather, whatever its use, it is a persistent defiling mold; the article is unclean. |
And he shall burn the garment, or the warp or the woof, in the wool or in the linen, or any article of skin that the plague is in it, for it is a harmful leprosy. In the fire it shall be burned. | And he shall burn the garment, or the warp or the woof, the wool or the linen, or any article made of skin that is diseased, for it is a persistent leprous disease. It shall be burned in the fire. | He must burn the fabric, the woven or knitted material of wool or linen, or any leather article that has been spoiled; because the defiling mold is persistent, the article must be burned. |
And if the priest examines, and behold, the plague has not spread in the garment, or in the warp or in the woof, or in any article of skin, | “And if the priest examines, and if the disease has not spread in the garment, in the warp or the woof or in any article made of skin, | “But if, when the priest examines it, the mold has not spread in the fabric, the woven or knitted material, or the leather article, |
then the priest shall command, and they shall wash that in which is the plague, and he shall shut it up a second seven days. | then the priest shall command that they wash the thing in which is the disease, and he shall shut it up for another seven days. | he shall order that the spoiled article be washed. Then he is to isolate it for another seven days. |
And the priest shall examine the plague after it has been washed, and behold, if the plague has not turned its eye, and the plague has not spread, it is unclean, and you shall burn it in the fire; it is a rot in its back part or in its front part. | And the priest shall examine the diseased thing after it has been washed. And if the appearance of the diseased area has not changed, though the disease has not spread, it is unclean. You shall burn it in the fire, whether the rot is on the back or on the front. | After the article has been washed, the priest is to examine it again, and if the mold has not changed its appearance, even though it has not spread, it is unclean. Burn it, no matter which side of the fabric has been spoiled. |
And if the priest examines, and behold, the plague has faded after washing it, then he shall tear it out of the garment, or out of the skin, or out of the warp, or out of the woof. | “But if the priest examines, and if the diseased area has faded after it has been washed, he shall tear it out of the garment or the skin or the warp or the woof. | If, when the priest examines it, the mold has faded after the article has been washed, he is to tear the spoiled part out of the fabric, the leather, or the woven or knitted material. |
And if again it appears in the garment, or in the warp or in the woof, or in any article of skin, it is breaking out; you shall burn it in the fire, that in which the plague is. | Then if it appears again in the garment, in the warp or the woof, or in any article made of skin, it is spreading. You shall burn with fire whatever has the disease. | But if it reappears in the fabric, in the woven or knitted material, or in the leather article, it is a spreading mold; whatever has the mold must be burned. |
And if the garment, or the warp or the woof, or any article of skin that you wash, and the plague departs from it, then it shall be washed a second time, and it shall be clean. | But the garment, or the warp or the woof, or any article made of skin from which the disease departs when you have washed it, shall then be washed a second time, and be clean.” | Any fabric, woven or knitted material, or any leather article that has been washed and is rid of the mold, must be washed again. Then it will be clean.” |
This is the law of the plague of leprosy of a garment of wool or of linen, or of the warp or of the woof, or any article of skin, to pronounce it clean or to pronounce it unclean.” | This is the law for a case of leprous disease in a garment of wool or linen, either in the warp or the woof, or in any article made of skin, to determine whether it is clean or unclean. | These are the regulations concerning defiling molds in woolen or linen clothing, woven or knitted material, or any leather article, for pronouncing them clean or unclean. |
