1 If a man marries a woman, but she becomes displeasing to him because he finds some indecency in her, he may write her a certificate of divorce, hand it to her, and send her away from his house. “When a man takes a wife and marries her, if then she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, and she departs out of his house, When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give <i>it</i> in her hand, and send her out of his house. “When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens, if she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, that he writes her a certificate of divorce, puts <i>it</i> in her hand, and sends her away from his house, If a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house,
2 If, after leaving his house, she goes and becomes another man’s wife, and if she goes and becomes another man’s wife, And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's <i>wife</i>. and she leaves his house and goes and becomes another man’s <i>wife,</i> and if after she leaves his house she becomes the wife of another man,
3 and the second man hates her, writes her a certificate of divorce, hands it to her, and sends her away from his house, or if he dies, and the latter man hates her and writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter man dies, who took her to be his wife, And <i>if</i> the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth <i>it</i> in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her <i>to be</i> his wife; and the latter husband turns against her, writes her a certificate of divorce and puts <i>it</i> in her hand, and sends her away from his house, or if the latter husband who took her to be his wife dies, and her second husband dislikes her and writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house, or if he dies,
4 then the husband who divorced her first may not remarry her after she has been defiled, for that is an abomination to the LORD. You must not bring sin upon the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance. then her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after she has been defiled, for that is an abomination before the LORD. And you shall not bring sin upon the land that the LORD your God is giving you for an inheritance. Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that <i>is</i> abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee <i>for</i> an inheritance. <i>then</i> her former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her again to be his wife, after she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the LORD, and you shall not bring sin on the land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance. then her first husband, who divorced her, is not allowed to marry her again after she has been defiled. That would be detestable in the eyes of the LORD. Do not bring sin upon the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.
5 If a man is newly married, he must not be sent to war or be pressed into any duty. For one year he is free to stay at home and bring joy to the wife he has married. “When a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be liable for any other public duty. He shall be free at home one year to be happy with his wife whom he has taken. When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: <i>but</i> he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken. “When a man takes a new wife, he is not to go out with the army, nor be assigned any duty; he shall be free at home for one year and shall make his wife whom he has taken happy. If a man has recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid on him. For one year he is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married.
6 Do not take a pair of millstones or even an upper millstone as security for a debt, because that would be taking one’s livelihood as security. “No one shall take a mill or an upper millstone in pledge, for that would be taking a life in pledge. No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh <i>a man's</i> life to pledge. “No one shall seize a handmill or an upper millstone as a pledge <i>for a loan,</i> since he would be seizing <i>the debtor’s</i> means of life as a pledge. Do not take a pair of millstones—not even the upper one—as security for a debt, because that would be taking a person’s livelihood as security.
7 If a man is caught kidnapping one of his Israelite brothers, whether he treats him as a slave or sells him, the kidnapper must die. So you must purge the evil from among you. “If a man is found stealing one of his brothers of the people of Israel, and if he treats him as a slave or sells him, then that thief shall die. So you shall purge the evil from your midst. If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from among you. “If someone is caught kidnapping any of his countrymen of the sons of Israel, and he treats him as merchandise and sells him, then that thief shall die; so you shall eliminate the evil from among you. If someone is caught kidnapping a fellow Israelite and treating or selling them as a slave, the kidnapper must die. You must purge the evil from among you.
8 In cases of infectious skin diseases, be careful to diligently follow everything the Levitical priests instruct you. Be careful to do as I have commanded them. “Take care, in a case of leprous disease, to be very careful to do according to all that the Levitical priests shall direct you. As I commanded them, so you shall be careful to do. Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, <i>so</i> ye shall observe to do. “Be careful about an infestation of leprosy, that you are very attentive and act in accordance with everything that the Levitical priests teach you; just as I have commanded them, you shall be careful to act. In cases of defiling skin diseases, be very careful to do exactly as the Levitical priests instruct you. You must follow carefully what I have commanded them.
9 Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam on the journey after you came out of Egypt. Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam on the way as you came out of Egypt. Remember what the LORD thy God did unto Miriam by the way, after that ye were come forth out of Egypt. Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam on the way as you came out of Egypt. Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam along the way after you came out of Egypt.
10 When you lend anything to your neighbor, do not enter his house to collect security. “When you make your neighbor a loan of any sort, you shall not go into his house to collect his pledge. When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge. “When you make your neighbor a loan of any kind, you shall not enter his house to take his pledge. When you make a loan of any kind to your neighbor, do not go into their house to get what is offered to you as a pledge.
11 You are to stand outside while the man to whom you are lending brings the security out to you. You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you make the loan shall bring the pledge out to you. Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out the pledge abroad unto thee. You shall stand outside, and the person to whom you are making the loan shall bring the pledge outside to you. Stay outside and let the neighbor to whom you are making the loan bring the pledge out to you.
12 If he is a poor man, you must not go to sleep with the security in your possession; And if he is a poor man, you shall not sleep in his pledge. And if the man <i>be</i> poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge: And if he is a poor man, you shall not sleep with his pledge. If the neighbor is poor, do not go to sleep with their pledge in your possession.
13 be sure to return it to him by sunset, so that he may sleep in his own cloak and bless you, and this will be credited to you as righteousness before the LORD your God. You shall restore to him the pledge as the sun sets, that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you. And it shall be righteousness for you before the LORD your God. In any case thou shalt deliver him the pledge again when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own raiment, and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God. When the sun goes down you shall certainly return the pledge to him, so that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you; and it will be righteousness for you before the LORD your God. Return their cloak by sunset so that your neighbor may sleep in it. Then they will thank you, and it will be regarded as a righteous act in the sight of the LORD your God.
14 Do not oppress a hired hand who is poor and needy, whether he is a brother or a foreigner residing in one of your towns. “You shall not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your towns. Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant <i>that is</i> poor and needy, <i>whether he be</i> of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that <i>are</i> in thy land within thy gates: “You shall not exploit a hired worker <i>who is</i> poor and needy, whether <i>he is</i> one of your countrymen or one of your strangers who are in your land in your towns. Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns.
15 You are to pay his wages each day before sunset, because he is poor and depends on them. Otherwise he may cry out to the LORD against you, and you will be guilty of sin. You shall give him his wages on the same day, before the sun sets (for he is poor and counts on it), lest he cry against you to the LORD, and you be guilty of sin. At his day thou shalt give <i>him</i> his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he <i>is</i> poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee. You shall give him his wages on his day before the sun sets—for he is poor and sets his heart on it—so that he does not cry out against you to the LORD, and it becomes a sin in you. Pay them their wages each day before sunset, because they are poor and are counting on it. Otherwise they may cry to the LORD against you, and you will be guilty of sin.
16 Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children for their fathers; each is to die for his own sin. “Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death because of their fathers. Each one shall be put to death for his own sin. The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin. “Fathers shall not be put to death for <i>their</i> sons, nor shall sons be put to death for <i>their</i> fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin <i>alone.</i> Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.
17 Do not deny justice to the foreigner or the fatherless, and do not take a widow’s cloak as security. “You shall not pervert the justice due to the sojourner or to the fatherless, or take a widow’s garment in pledge, Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, <i>nor</i> of the fatherless; nor take a widow's raiment to pledge: “You shall not pervert the justice due a stranger <i>or</i> an orphan, nor seize a widow’s garment as a pledge. Do not deprive the foreigner or the fatherless of justice, or take the cloak of the widow as a pledge.
18 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt, and the LORD your God redeemed you from that place. Therefore I am commanding you to do this. but you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt and the LORD your God redeemed you from there; therefore I command you to do this. But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing. But you are to remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and that the LORD your God redeemed you from there; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the LORD your God redeemed you from there. That is why I command you to do this.
19 If you are harvesting in your field and forget a sheaf there, do not go back to get it. It is to be left for the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. “When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it. It shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands. “When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you are not to go back to get it; it shall belong to the stranger, the orphan, and to the widow, in order that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
20 When you beat the olives from your trees, you must not go over the branches again. What remains will be for the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow. When you beat your olive trees, you shall not go over them again. It shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow. When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. When you beat <i>the olives</i> off your olive tree, you are not to search through the branches again; <i>that</i> shall be <i>left</i> for the stranger, the orphan, and for the widow. When you beat the olives from your trees, do not go over the branches a second time. Leave what remains for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow.
21 When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you must not go over the vines again. What remains will be for the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow. When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not strip it afterward. It shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow. When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean <i>it</i> afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. “When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you are not to go over it again; <i>that</i> shall be <i>left</i> for the stranger, the orphan, and the widow. When you harvest the grapes in your vineyard, do not go over the vines again. Leave what remains for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow.
22 Remember that you were slaves in the land of Egypt. Therefore I am commanding you to do this. You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I command you to do this. And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing. And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt. That is why I command you to do this.
