Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.1Ἐὰν ταῖς γλώσσαις τῶν ἀνθρώπων λαλῶ καὶ τῶν ἀγγέλων ἀγάπην δὲ μὴ ἔχω γέγονα χαλκὸς ἠχῶν κύμβαλον ἀλαλάζον
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.2καὶ ἐὰν ἔχω προφητείαν καὶ εἰδῶ τὰ μυστήρια πάντα καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γνῶσιν καὶ ἐὰν ἔχω πᾶσαν τὴν πίστιν ὥστε ὄρη μεθιστάναι ἀγάπην δὲ μὴ ἔχω οὐθέν εἰμι
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.3καὶ ἐὰν ψωμίσω πάντα τὰ ὑπάρχοντά μου καὶ ἐὰν παραδῶ τὸ σῶμά μου ἵνα [καυχήσωμαι] ἀγάπην δὲ μὴ ἔχω οὐδὲν ὠφελοῦμαι
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;4 ἀγάπη μακροθυμεῖ χρηστεύεται ἀγάπη οὐ ζηλοῖ ἀγάπη οὐ περπερεύεται οὐ φυσιοῦται
does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;5οὐκ ἀσχημονεῖ οὐ ζητεῖ τὰ ἑαυτῆς οὐ παροξύνεται οὐ λογίζεται τὸ κακόν
does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;6οὐ χαίρει ἐπὶ τῇ ἀδικίᾳ συνχαίρει δὲ τῇ ἀληθείᾳ
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.7πάντα στέγει πάντα πιστεύει πάντα ἐλπίζει πάντα ὑπομένει
Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.8 ἀγάπη οὐδέποτε πίπτει εἴτε δὲ προφητεῖαι καταργηθήσονται εἴτε γλῶσσαι παύσονται εἴτε γνῶσις καταργηθήσεται
For we know in part and we prophesy in part.9ἐκ μέρους γὰρ γινώσκομεν καὶ ἐκ μέρους προφητεύομεν
But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.10ὅταν δὲ ἔλθῃ τὸ τέλειον τὸ ἐκ μέρους καταργηθήσεται
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.11Ὅτε ἤμην νήπιος ἐλάλουν ὡς νήπιος ἐφρόνουν ὡς νήπιος ἐλογιζόμην ὡς νήπιος ὅτε γέγονα ἀνήρ κατήργηκα τὰ τοῦ νηπίου
For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.12βλέπομεν γὰρ ἄρτι δι’ ἐσόπτρου ἐν αἰνίγματι τότε δὲ πρόσωπον πρὸς πρόσωπον ἄρτι γινώσκω ἐκ μέρους τότε δὲ ἐπιγνώσομαι καθὼς καὶ ἐπεγνώσθην
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.13Νυνὶ δὲ μένει πίστις ἐλπίς ἀγάπη τὰ τρία ταῦτα μείζων δὲ τούτων ἀγάπη
