Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a ringing gong or a clanging cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.3If I give all I possess to the poor and exult in the surrender of my body, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs.
does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;6Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth.
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.7It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be restrained; where there is knowledge, it will be dismissed.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part.9For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.10but when the perfect comes, the partial passes away.
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I set aside childish ways.
For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.12Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.13And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love.
