The LORD spoke to Moses: | 1The LORD said to Moses, |
"Speak to the Israelites and tell them, 'These are the LORD's appointed times which you must proclaim as holy assemblies--my appointed times: | 2"Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'These are my appointed festivals, the appointed festivals of the LORD, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies. |
"'Six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there must be a Sabbath of complete rest, a holy assembly. You must not do any work; it is a Sabbath to the LORD in all the places where you live. | 3"'There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a sabbath to the LORD. |
"'These are the LORD's appointed times, holy assemblies, which you must proclaim at their appointed time. | 4"'These are the LORD's appointed festivals, the sacred assemblies you are to proclaim at their appointed times: |
In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, at twilight, is a Passover offering to the LORD. | 5The LORD's Passover begins at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. |
Then on the fifteenth day of the same month will be the festival of unleavened bread to the LORD; seven days you must eat unleavened bread. | 6On the fifteenth day of that month the LORD's Festival of Unleavened Bread begins; for seven days you must eat bread made without yeast. |
On the first day there will be a holy assembly for you; you must not do any regular work. | 7On the first day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. |
You must present a gift to the LORD for seven days, and the seventh day is a holy assembly; you must not do any regular work.'" | 8For seven days present a food offering to the LORD. And on the seventh day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work.'" |
The LORD spoke to Moses: | 9The LORD said to Moses, |
"Speak to the Israelites and tell them, 'When you enter the land that I am about to give to you and you gather in its harvest, then you must bring the sheaf of the first portion of your harvest to the priest, | 10"Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'When you enter the land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest. |
and he must wave the sheaf before the LORD to be accepted for your benefit--on the day after the Sabbath the priest is to wave it. | 11He is to wave the sheaf before the LORD so it will be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath. |
On the day you wave the sheaf you must also offer a flawless yearling lamb for a burnt offering to the LORD, | 12On the day you wave the sheaf, you must sacrifice as a burnt offering to the LORD a lamb a year old without defect, |
along with its grain offering, two tenths of an ephah of choice wheat flour mixed with olive oil, as a gift to the LORD, a soothing aroma, and its drink offering, one fourth of a hin of wine. | 13together with its grain offering of two-tenths of an ephah of the finest flour mixed with olive oil--a food offering presented to the LORD, a pleasing aroma--and its drink offering of a quarter of a hin of wine. |
You must not eat bread, roasted grain, or fresh grain until this very day, until you bring the offering of your God. This is a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all the places where you live. | 14You must not eat any bread, or roasted or new grain, until the very day you bring this offering to your God. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live. |
"'You must count for yourselves seven weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day you bring the wave offering sheaf; they must be complete weeks. | 15"'From the day after the Sabbath, the day you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, count off seven full weeks. |
You must count fifty days--until the day after the seventh Sabbath--and then you must present a new grain offering to the LORD. | 16Count off fifty days up to the day after the seventh Sabbath, and then present an offering of new grain to the LORD. |
From the places where you live you must bring two loaves of bread for a wave offering; they must be made from two tenths of an ephah of fine wheat flour, baked with yeast, as first fruits to the LORD. | 17From wherever you live, bring two loaves made of two-tenths of an ephah of the finest flour, baked with yeast, as a wave offering of firstfruits to the LORD. |
Along with the loaves of bread, you must also present seven flawless yearling lambs, one young bull, and two rams. They are to be a burnt offering to the LORD along with their grain offering and drink offerings, a gift of a soothing aroma to the LORD. | 18Present with this bread seven male lambs, each a year old and without defect, one young bull and two rams. They will be a burnt offering to the LORD, together with their grain offerings and drink offerings--a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the LORD. |
You must also offer one male goat for a sin offering and two yearling lambs for a peace offering sacrifice, | 19Then sacrifice one male goat for a sin offering and two lambs, each a year old, for a fellowship offering. |
and the priest is to wave them--the two lambs--along with the bread of the first fruits, as a wave offering before the LORD; they will be holy to the LORD for the priest. | 20The priest is to wave the two lambs before the LORD as a wave offering, together with the bread of the firstfruits. They are a sacred offering to the LORD for the priest. |
"'On this very day you must proclaim an assembly; it is to be a holy assembly for you. You must not do any regular work. This is a perpetual statute in all the places where you live throughout your generations. | 21On that same day you are to proclaim a sacred assembly and do no regular work. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live. |
When you gather in the harvest of your land, you must not completely harvest the corner of your field, and you must not gather up the gleanings of your harvest. You must leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the LORD your God.'" | 22"'When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the LORD your God.'" |
The LORD spoke to Moses: | 23The LORD said to Moses, |
"Tell the Israelites, 'In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you must have a complete rest, a memorial announced by loud horn blasts, a holy assembly. | 24"Say to the Israelites: 'On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of sabbath rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts. |
You must not do any regular work, but you must present a gift to the LORD.'" | 25Do no regular work, but present a food offering to the LORD.'" |
The LORD spoke to Moses: | 26The LORD said to Moses, |
"The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. It is to be a holy assembly for you, and you must humble yourselves and present a gift to the LORD. | 27"The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. Hold a sacred assembly and deny yourselves, and present a food offering to the LORD. |
You must not do any work on this particular day, because it is a day of atonement to make atonement for yourselves before the LORD your God. | 28Do not do any work on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the LORD your God. |
Indeed, any person who does not behave with humility on this particular day will be cut off from his people. | 29Those who do not deny themselves on that day must be cut off from their people. |
As for any person who does any work on this particular day, I will exterminate that person from the midst of his people! | 30I will destroy from among their people anyone who does any work on that day. |
You must not do any work. This is a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all the places where you live. | 31You shall do no work at all. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live. |
It is a Sabbath of complete rest for you, and you must humble yourselves on the ninth day of the month in the evening, from evening until evening you must observe your Sabbath." | 32It is a day of sabbath rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening you are to observe your sabbath." |
The LORD spoke to Moses: | 33The LORD said to Moses, |
"Tell the Israelites, 'On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the Festival of Temporary Shelters for seven days to the LORD. | 34"Say to the Israelites: 'On the fifteenth day of the seventh month the LORD's Festival of Tabernacles begins, and it lasts for seven days. |
On the first day is a holy assembly; you must do no regular work. | 35The first day is a sacred assembly; do no regular work. |
For seven days you must present a gift to the LORD. On the eighth day there is to be a holy assembly for you, and you must present a gift to the LORD. It is a solemn assembly day; you must not do any regular work. | 36For seven days present food offerings to the LORD, and on the eighth day hold a sacred assembly and present a food offering to the LORD. It is the closing special assembly; do no regular work. |
"'These are the appointed times of the LORD that you must proclaim as holy assemblies to present a gift to the LORD--burnt offering, grain offering, sacrifice, and drink offerings, each day according to its regulation, | 37("'These are the LORD's appointed festivals, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies for bringing food offerings to the LORD--the burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings required for each day. |
besides the Sabbaths of the LORD and all your gifts, votive offerings, and freewill offerings which you must give to the LORD. | 38These offerings are in addition to those for the LORD's Sabbaths and in addition to your gifts and whatever you have vowed and all the freewill offerings you give to the LORD.) |
"'On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you gather in the produce of the land, you must celebrate a pilgrim festival of the LORD for seven days. On the first day is a complete rest and on the eighth day is complete rest. | 39"'So beginning with the fifteenth day of the seventh month, after you have gathered the crops of the land, celebrate the festival to the LORD for seven days; the first day is a day of sabbath rest, and the eighth day also is a day of sabbath rest. |
On the first day you must take for yourselves branches from majestic trees--palm branches, branches of leafy trees, and willows of the brook--and you must rejoice before the LORD your God for seven days. | 40On the first day you are to take branches from luxuriant trees--from palms, willows and other leafy trees--and rejoice before the LORD your God for seven days. |
You must celebrate it as a pilgrim festival to the LORD for seven days in the year. This is a perpetual statute throughout your generations; you must celebrate it in the seventh month. | 41Celebrate this as a festival to the LORD for seven days each year. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come; celebrate it in the seventh month. |
You must live in temporary shelters for seven days; every native citizen in Israel must live in temporary shelters, | 42Live in temporary shelters for seven days: All native-born Israelites are to live in such shelters |
so that your future generations may know that I made the Israelites live in temporary shelters when I brought them out from the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.'" | 43so your descendants will know that I had the Israelites live in temporary shelters when I brought them out of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.'" |
So Moses spoke to the Israelites about the appointed times of the LORD. | 44So Moses announced to the Israelites the appointed festivals of the LORD. |
